I have a feeling he's been dropped. He knows nothing about what's going on with Em and Dre and sounds like he's been replaced by Slim. Shame you didn't ask him about what Slim said about him.

That situation happened after I interviewed him.

Either way this interview is kind of old or Bishop is out of touch because Crooked done canceled No Country For Old Men.

I swear Bishop been drinking a lot lately.  Boy better watch being on the vid with that shit.

If he didn't get dropped he got shoved into development hell like Stat Quo and so many other artists did.

I feel like I'm hating on one of my favorite west coast artists but damn if something ain't funky going on.  :(
I hope not.

It's kind of sad if he is.  Oh well hope he keeps releasing music.

props Rebel  :) thanks for the interview ;)

so Glasses Malone is not mentioned anymore for the No Country For Old Men & Crooked I recently stated that he doesn't want to go through with it, as he's fearing for his life.
so i guess it's safe to say that the project is no more  :-\

notice that Bishop didn't say anything about Calitroit Metropolis either  :P

also, it's fucked up for him that he's not even featured on Relapse 2; i already know that aftermath is not one big family but it could have been an interesting collaboration (unless Eminem comes with the accent).
not to mention that he missed an opportunity to be on another big album.

by the way, Bishop even shouted out Nate Dogg, but we haven't heard a collaboration from them ( yet) :P

I have a feeling he's been dropped. He knows nothing about what's going on with Em and Dre and sounds like he's been replaced by Slim. Shame you didn't ask him about what Slim said about him.
those are not big hints of what would lead to such a conclusion.

i mean, aftermath is not one big family.
besides, hardly anybody knows what goes on with Dre & Detox.

I'd say launching the careers of three of the biggest artists in the world qualifies. Being around since 1996 and still being relevant is special.

Sounds like Bishop wants to release his album as he intended and wants off Interscope, but needs to keep those Dre beats, and Dre probably wants Bishop to write/guest on Detox.

If Bishop can't get a release on Interscope but can secure his recordings legally and move off label then could still easily drop around the time of Detox (if he's featured on it) and make a quick dollar.

remember that interscope didn't want to launch bishop before because he would supposedly 'distract' from detox. if that was the case then fat chance they'll leave him leave with any dre heaters for release before or around detox. that would be the ultimate 'distraction'.

Why doesn't Interscope want to release The Reformation? In 2008 there wasn't a single album from Aftermath and Bishop had the grow up single, he could have came out then.

good point. its as if every time they shuffle things around over there, bishop's album gets left with the short straw. releasing it off interscope may be the only way it would ever come out. in that case, i'm dubious that the amount of dre beats would probably be cut in half or more, providing they haven't already been given to 50.

well there's supposedly RELAPSE 2, buying that extra time for detox, which could easily get delayed till 2010 and 50 dropping in the later part of this year. realistically, detox could drop any time between q2-q4 2010, which is gonna be truly terrible timing given what the state of the economy will be in about a year from now. whatever happens, you can rely on interscope to fuck things up. i'd of thought detox is definitely off the cards for 2009 now.

well the consensus on all em's new material seems to range between poor - good. not really very exciting considering dre's involvement and the need for them to come out strong and really make some noise.

it seems to be a given that the best material and some kind of new sound will be saved for detox but i got a feeling things could all turn sour very quickly. jimmy would be crazy to not push hard for detox releasing soon as its the only album they might make big money off of. in the current climate, where sales keep declining, the longer they leave it, the less money they will make off detox. its that simple, it doesn't matter how good it is.

this doesn't really fit in with dre's attitude as he could probably spend a few more years working on it and signing/dropping several more artists from aftermath along the way.

the whole business model is in the process of changing to a more democratic system led by the internet. interscope don't know what to do. dre works on detox so long that by the time its ready to come out the global econmomy is in sharp decline and literally nobody is buying records. there's something really funny about this reality, will it all end in tears?

This isn't the album Em and Dre intended for initially... it's what Jimmy wanted. That's why Em is putting out 2 albums. So it was kind of rushed in comparison...

thanks for the responses rebel. everything you've said makes sense especially 'relapse' being jimmy approved. that would definitely account for the poor quality and rushed sound of the output. still, i don't see how the chances are very good for anything being different for the 50 album or relapse 2 even seeing the light of day.

'relapse' won't be the big seller it could and should have been with the right execution - some crumbs on the table but nothing spectacular for jimmy.

Yeah Jimmy Iovine is the "cancer" of the label and Hip Hop music in general. He's completely lost sight of what fans want from Hip Hop music. It's all money, politics and BS with him.

I don't really reflect on Jimmy that much because he plays a background figure and I don't know much about him but he's got to have some credibility, no?

There is an art to releasing music to gain the best financial outcome.  If you release too much like Charles Hamilton - no one gives a fuck and doubt your ability to create.  If you release too little - let's say Dr.Dre you risk the chance of eventually alienate your fan base.  What time of the year matters, how many years between albums matter.  For example, Kanye should probably wait a year or two before he drops another album.

At the same time by just his ethnic background how is an old jewish dude going to know what's hot?  Especially hip-hop.  Sure, people can do statistically information, comparing data and logistics about market trends, localization, etc.   At the end of the day the music has got to support the weight.

Of all the singles only We Made You is getting radio play.  I'm not sure what that says.
I'll have to hear Relapse 2 which is sounding more like the album they (EM & Dre) would have liked to release.
