This rumour is so.. TRUE.

Ice Cube was indeed signed for a while to Aftermath, the duo recorded a few tracks and been in the studio with each other around 2002/3 to record the next Ice Cube album which was untitled. Get this, Dre himself even said he is putting Detox on hold in order to get the Ice Cube album out first.. heh.. guess that worked out well..

Cube was never signed to Aftermath. They both could not agree on a deal to not only sign him but even start putting the album together.

Shoulda happened, with a dope dre produced first single (and a classic album to back it), can you imagine how much this woulda sold, interscope should have paid him whatever he wanted.

Dr. Dre should have signed Ice Cube around the time they made "Hello" and "Chin Check". An Ice Cube album produced by Dr. Dre & Mel-Man :o

That collabo always is in process. Never a pen to the paper and a official signing with them ever took place.

I really hope Ice Cube is on "Detox", it's a shame he wasn't on "The Chronic" or "2001".

At that time when they dropped "Hello" and "Chin Check".

Cube is happier going the independent route.

Imagine Cube, WC and Dre (maybe even Snoop) on a track together to "bring the west back".

It would have to be a single off an album, and they would have to go hard, no laying off the lyrical content.  Beat would have to be banging as well.

From a music standpoint, yes. Biz? Not as much. 2 bosses normally have issues putting egos to the side and making something like that happen. Beeter off having Dre submit tracks to Cube for him to spit over.

I remember Paul Rosenberg was on Tim Westwood's show around that time and said that Cube had OFFICIALLY signed to Shady / Aftermath. We'll never know what really happened since that camp refuses to ever talk about anything.
