Title: Kid Cudi - Man On The Moon: The End Of The Day DISSCUSION THREAD
Post by: Action! on September 05, 2009, 08:23:34 PM
So. the mutherfucka finally leaked.  Thoughts & Reviews?

Dope ALBUM.  I wish to emphasize the album point.  The production is magnificent.  It creates a solid sound and doesn't sound like a greatest hits mix.  It's mood music.  You can't listen to ti all the time but that doesn't take away from it.  Great fucking album.

CuDi delivers with his life tales.  More spoken word, less rap.  Next effort it'd be dope to see him rhyme a bit harder.

Common was aight on the album.  Kind of takes away from it in my opinion.

Wow what a great album! Mood music like you two said, perfect to listen to in the car at night or on mp3 player when you go to sleep.

After one listen I only wasn't feeling Enter Galatic. Production is so unique too; Emile, Kanye and RATATAT did an amazing job, especially the latter who the fuck are they ? Pursuit Of Happines is on some epic, move shit  :o

Definitely mood music, and I'm not in the mood for this kind of stuff this morning.

It's a grower tho and I commend Cudi for doing something different. I'll drop a proper opinion in a few days.

That Hyyerr track is straight fire  8)

First time I heard it I picked up on a Bone Thuggish vibe.  Wondering if there's some intentional BTNH influence seeing as how Cudi's also from Cleveland.  By far one of the best tracks I've heard in a long time.

I had pretty much given up on hip-hop.  I mean, since Eminem came with the 8 Mile soundtrack and 50 blowing up and at that time hip-hop was still exciting.

I liked the Jedi Mind Tricks Servants In Heaven album... but I don't know that their sound was that much different from something D-12 would of done on Devils Night, it was kind of that shock value, hardcore hip-hop lyricism that had been done before, just with a different flavor.

I think this is the first time since Eminem, that an artist has came with a sound this fresh.  Hope I'm not over-exaggerating, and over hyping this thing.  Don't want to jinx it.

Listened to it and its def something where uve gotta be in the mood. Luckily I was and it was perfect for the moment. Especially Pursuit of Happiness, standout track. As someone said Make Her Say should have been a bonus cut at the end. its a cool song but doesnt fit at all...

Yeah I am. Both sounds are similar to me.

Production:  Eminem vs. Stoupe

They both use either dark, melancholy production ("Uncommon Valor" "Razorblade Salvation" compares with "Revelation" "Pistol Pistol"), or to contrast at times with a loud aggressive sound and lyricism ("Heavy Metal Kings" compares with "Fight Music").

Lyrics:  Vinnie Paz vs. D-12

Both use elements of shock value and from the perspective of a psychopath, grimy shit...  (Vinnie Paz "I'll murder you and laugh").  The major difference is that Vinnie Paz sometimes tries to be shocking by rhyming about war and Islamic revolution while D-12 never raps about world politics; although D-12 did use many references to Columbine, Oklahoma City bombings (Swifty McViegh) and so on.

"Sky Might Fall" and "Day And Night" seem like best joints so far on first listen.  Also, I really like the idea of having Common narrate at different points in the album, that was dope.

Nevermind... I had downloaded a few cuts while waiting for the leak.  I downloaded "Changing Lanes" "Sky Is Falling" and "Day and Night".  So I was really hyped for this, and of course it ended up being just another let down.  Just him whining for no apparent reason about bitches and drugs and being happy sometimes but sometimes sad.

Yep.. and even Talib Kweli says hip-hop is dead.. on the Train of Thought album he says "Where were you the day hip-hop died.. is it too early too mourn, is it too late to ride?"

Where is "Switching Lanes", "Daps and Pounds" and some song I think it's called "Freshest" something

Albums amazing 8) Arguably album of the year imo

Im not sure if I'm that into it yet but so far the only other album that may be on its level for me is OB4CL II (although i need to give that a proper spin when bought). Two things both the albums have in common though and what makes them the best albums of the year so far are a) cohesive sound b) a continued theme. Love the way Common narrates the album even if at times it feels a bit OTT but I take it like a Tarrantino movie sometimes the OTT bits are necessary to create an atmosphere. I wasn't that huge a fan of the singles tbh but bar Make her say the album fits perfectly.

Maybe cause I havent checked Cudi (cause of the horrible Crookers remix) my expectations weren't as inflated as others but to me this is a pleasant surprise. Definately shits all over 808s...

I'm a buy this album and drake's so far gone ep just to support the new movements.  I want these other kids to get some shine though I think Drake was pretty much wealthy coming into the game.  Got love for Jay's new album but it's unlikely I'll buy it.

After a couple more listens it is a little emo. Whats it with Cleveland artists and weed  Anyway still pretty dope and may be copped if I can get the cash together quick.

It is a little emo, not something you'd play at a party or to get hyped but it's great to listen to at night in your ride or when you go to sleep on your radio/mp3 player.

He was fucking with the Kickdrums pretty heavily for a minute.  I know he was one of the first to help put Chip Tha Ripper among others with their shine.  But, he's supposed to have a mixtape dropping under the title of Rose Ray.  Not sure what to expect.

CuDi is a good look for Cleveland.  Cash kind of felt stereotypical or had yet to develop his full potential.

Kickdrums are the shit thought.  They're another amazing look for Cleveland/Northeast Ohio.

So are the Clipse/Snoop joints on the Deluxe version? Or have they just been scrapped from the album all together?
