Wow... Does anybody remember that post on the Doggystyle recordz forum a couple of months back? Some guy talked about how snoop was gonna be the first act on death row and that the tape proved that harry-o was a financer? I'll try to find it and post it up...
-
Yea...I remember a while back somone mentioned this tape on the board before and how they owned it and than it got jacked from their car...I'd pay anything for this shit...It looks legit...I belive it's real, but there still is a possibility it could be fake...It says in the small print that it was distributed by Time Warner Records, but if it was distributed by Time-Warner, would it really be this rare? Well it looks ill as fuck, and if it exists, I would pay a whole lot for this shit...I wonder if it was ever made on CD or was it made just tape?...Well, all I know is that I want that shit...PeACe

Here is a summary to get people in the know...
The following are posts from the Doggystyle Records Forum On 8/31/02 and the days following:
The OG post:
08/31/2002 : 06:30:58 AM
"THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO CALVIN BROADUS PLEASE PASS IT ON TO HIM HE WILL WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION.
First I would like to say congrats Snoop on your new independent label your work is gettin smoother and smoother. Your work is the best in the rap industry.
My message concerns a piece of merchandise that Suge Knight may want to get his hands on.
Oh yah, your definently gonna wanna blaze one up to this shit.
I am talking of course about the unknown canceled release record Snoop Doggy Dogg by Death Row Records 1991. The record was distributed by Warner Music Canada before it could be canceled. Of course only 1 or so copies reached the store. I wanted to know if anybody knew about it so I e-mailed a representative of a Death Row website keeping in mind that it might be Suge Knight I was e-mailing. So I played it cool not to give to much info at first. By his response it sounds like it was him. Now I have had this cassette for four years, then it was stolen by crooked washers at the carwash in 1998 (no this is not The Wash). I didn't even know about the record then, I thought it was Snoops first album, realized later it was Death Rows biggest secret. On the Row website all of the releases are listed beggining with the Chronic and then it says "e-mail me if I am missing anything" obviously Suges way of trying to locate the tape. We'll the tape is gone, all I have is the jacket. The cover is much like a demo or a white on black draft for Doggystyle except the Snoop Doggy Dogg dog is not smoking the roach and a cartoon of Snoop out of the doghouse to rob a liquir store over the counter. The tape has no color it's all black and white. It was produced by Death Row and distributed by Warner. My theory is that Michael Harris was right, Death Row was formed in the Fall of 91 and that Snoop Doggy Dogg was the debut album, was pulled of the production line for legal reasons to prevent the producers and executives from going to jail for various charges. Snoop Dogg was connected to the crip-line of Michael Hariss' drug cartel, knew Harris before Death Row was formed. "Im a motha fuckin gangsta" - Snoop Dogg is indeed a real OG. Tha Doggfatha carried the Harris West Coast gangsta trademark. Suge denies the allegations by Harris because Suge isn't a crip but a blood. And would you guess that armed robbery was the case they gave him - 1.5000,000$ from banks alocated to the Death Row label (proven by the 1991 tracks in an "Over the Counter" rip off where Snoop raps about armed robberies). So why hasn't Snoop come forward about this? To protect himself of course from Suge Knight and his affiliations with the gangsters that killed ______. Theres only so much I can discuss about the gangster rap conspiracy without going on and on. I just wish to know from Snoop himself what the truth is, set me straight about the record. I am working on a site for the jacket and my documented theory to see if anybody out there has a copy of the tape before Suge buys them all out for 10000$ a pop.
Snoop if you know anything about who I should talk to or to just set me straight about why they covered up your album e-mail me back.
Anyway Dogg, the truth interests me alot, I won't peep a word of it and I think you know that cause you can allways smell a snitch.
I trust ya Dogg because your an artist to."
It is interesting to note that this is the same dude who posted up the pic
here is another post summarizing it up:
"harry o (michael harris) is the compton drug kingpin that allegedly gave suge the money to start the label. it was gonna be death row under harris's "Godfather Entertainment". its a whole long story...read up on it. bottom line - harris claims he was an original partner and suge fucked him out of it. and he wants credit and his royalties.
now this album that the dude mentioned could be the solid proof that harris was indeed part of the original business arrangement - cuz he's a part of the credits and his label or something on this album. this was like the very very 1st thing the label released - b4 chronic in 92.
so if this album is real and the feds got hold of it and authenticated that its real - then thats proof that suge fucked harry o out of the business deal. and that means suge can get indicted or something bad from using harry-o's drug money to start death row.
so thats y death row dont want this getting out - if its true. snoop probably wouldnt speak on it or get at this dude cuz if all this is real - then this is street shit. and snoop knows better than to get involved in this again. fucking around with an old and dangerous issue like this will get him seriously on suge's hitlist. and thats real - not the way suge is trash talking all the time. real violence and threats.
so to the canadian dude who started this thread - forget about this. u aint getting any info from anyone on this. it'll always remain hidden unless suge or someone reveals the truth."
-
dam this is sum DEEP shit.. they all go into death row hella n that and i dont think 187 is the other 187 and MAYBE the 213 demo song was on this
-
Fake, before '92, Death Row was named High Powered or something like that. They changed the name in early '92. Either way, there is a possility, but I high doubt it. And if Harry O had something to do with it, it would be under GodFather Entertainment.
-
I think Death Row was originally called Future Shock Records.

I wonder who produced this album? It says 1991 on it, and this was before NWA broke up the following year. Did dre produce the album underground?
those r good things there never thought bout that.... when did NWA break up?
-
I think Death Row was originally called Future Shock Records.
yeah i have read that be4 that it was called future shock records......damn this is big business right here!
-
interesting...i wouldnt pay shit for it tho...only thing i heard of snooper dooper doing before deathrow(aside from the 213 cd, which my homie once had btw) was his work with perfection(twinz/foesum..etc)...and its true NWA didnt break up til late 91, early 92 if im not mistaken....so it couldnt have been on Deathrow....
-
This could just be off the wall, but It's been a long while since I've worked in Retail...
Is there a database somewhere that has all the barcodes of the CD's out there? If this is real and It came out thru time warner Canada, it should be in a computer system somewhere...
Another thing to note...
The cover is wrinkled, but why aren't there any wrinkles on the pictures?
-
i studied the cover 4 like a hour lol and uh ITS FAKE cuz u can tell where he colored n the roach on the snoop logo and if u look at the drawing the corners of it r faded and if it was real it wouldnt b faded if u know wut i mean and
The cover is wrinkled, but why aren't there any wrinkles on the pictures?
thats true lol and the paraental advisory looks weird and the thingy were it says 1991 death row records i think i can c a line where he pasted it like a out line and its kinda a differant color i mite b seein things but sheck it out fa sho and c if u c wut im tlakin bout
-
It's fake
But, Snoop was already hanging around Dre in the studio in 91 before NWA broke up. He was around when ATL was recording, and was gonna do some stuff with them, he was originally gonna sign with Above the Law.
-
how can u guys just straight up say its fake, like your snoop's manager or something. that thing looks pretty damn real to me.
-
this scan looks very fake
-
f a k e
-
its fake... the edges of the pictures and fonts have ben "blurred"
-
yup... read on.. here's the image again so u can compare with my comments
(http://afohley.freeservers.com/1991-SNOOP-TAPE.jpg)
the 'snoop doggy dogg' text on the front is lifted straight from the Whats My Name cover.
All text other than the info about warner canada uses the exact same font - Impact.
1) Impact came first with Windows 95
2) As they guy above said the edges are blurred - thats anti-aliasing.. a PC graphics program would have done that.
3) the edge of the 'stickem up snoop graphic' and of the death row graphic is aliased too
Its been stuck together
Like someone said before there are no crinkles over the stuck on graphics.
You think they could seriously keep something like this under wraps!
ps
Death Row was never called Future Shock properly - it was just an idea for the name.
-
And Like 1 copy would have got out. They should have made the story a little better, and said only a couple hundred got out. It'd still be impossible to find one, and it sounds more realistic. How the hell would 1 single copy get out.
-
Yeah..... I think Overseer and everyone else may of laid this conspiracy theory to rest. I still think that there is a 8% chance that it is real. Like maybe the label made a little promo type tape with intentions of maybe selling outside the US.
-
My homeboy Dj Slip sold the name 'Death Row' too suge for $5000.
I'll find about this release for sure.
-
Fake!!! if you really really zoom in you can see the difference of colors(lighter on the edges) of the logo's and text... plus this guy said he scanned the cover and saved it on his comp...hmmm since tapes wear out kinda fast why didnt he make more copy's of the tape? but he made a copy of the cover!! LOL.. and he seems like a big snoop fan, yet he did not realize it was a rare tape. Total bullshit!! ::)

WORD!!!!!! Great point homeboy!!! If you had a copy of a tape of that magnitude, you would dub it 1,000 times over man. Sell those bitches for $20 a pop.
-
he said it got stolen so he cant dupe it.... he says he didnt know it was so rare back then..... even tho its bs

http://www.deathrowentertainment.com/snoopbio.htm
Tony Best gave me this along with a lot of those old Death Row songs I put on my websites back in the day. I still have shit nobody knows about that he sent me, maybe one day i'll put them up.
He was around at the time of all the 'Classic' Death Row music, up until around 1999.
-
nice ;D
press pack stuff like that comes up on ebay sometimes.
actually.. that thing seems very familiar - just the words, i've never seen the rest before.. probably just been regurgitated thru mags etc.
-
this is crazy, shit got me a heartattack
-
Also this may be nothing
But on the Chronic front cover Snoop Doggy Dogg was spelt "Snoop Doggy Dog" (Also Dat Nigga Daz was "That Nigga Daz")
So if this was in 1991, it probably should have been with out the extra "g" at the end.
Just one thing, wasn't Dre ready to leave N.W.A. In 1991 he kinda did Niggaz 4 Life under protest because he & DOC were complaining to Eazy about money but Eazy still would not give them there release. Dre i heard was also pissed off that Eazy made them diss Ice Cube too i heard as him & Cube were kinda tight.
So it may be possible, i truely doubt it, this idiot would have been better saying it came from 1992
-
Would be best to just ignore this topic when it comes up... dont give it anymore time.
It looks like the guy is planning on running a 2pac or biggie death theory off of this BS
-
hehe..
yeaa.. it looks fake..
BUT its a hella tight cover... anybody seen that comic befo?
props to that if he made it himself :)
-
Engies
Dre was legit pissed at cube for leaving, he didn't have any problem dissing Cube... at the time he thought cube was a bitch, that's why he smacked up dee barnes, for interviewing cube on her show, basically. Dre wasn't still tight with cube, he was probably the most hot headed of all of em, Dre's always had a temper.
Also, Snoop's name was misspelled on the cover. He meant for it to have two g's, but somebody screwed it up, check his lyrics all over the album, dre even says "Slap on some DOC or some funky ass sh*t from the D-o Double G Y D o Double G" in "Deeeez Nuts" Snoop does the same thing a couple times, he's always spelled it with two g's they just screwed up the cover.
-
This is interesting. I'm going with the possiblilty it is fake though. If there is any chance these songs are real, than they may be work Dre did with Snoop when they first hooked up. They could also be freestyles and stuff from 213.
-
didnt snoop say one of hte first things they did together was g thang?
this shit is fake as hell!

Thats not what I read. From what I heard, the whole reason Dre slapped Dee Barnes was for saying Dre had beef with Cube.
& why would he be angry when he had the same problems with Eazy as Cube Michelle & DOC did.
Thats just from what I read, if i find the source again i'll show it
not sayin its true
You sure when Snoop spelt his name in the rap he didnt put there extra g there for making the rhyme or for the fact he was a G & then it just stuck
Also why was Daz called That Nigga Daz instead of Dat
