Title: snoop dogg sales next week
Post by: snopafly on December 09, 2009, 03:03:28 PM

Based on one day sales, snoops album is gonna hit record low first week sales, with sales between 55-65k.

Susan boyle hit yet another 600000k :D

Hmm, wonder if those numbers take into account iTunes? Snoop was number one on the Hip-Hop album charts yesterday.

How many big name artists are failing to sell big now, in the last couple months Rihanna, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent and now looks like Snoop, Timbaland and Chris brown are all sellin a lot less than anyone expected

I knew the album wasn't gonna sell that much, it is what it is. Albums these days don't sell shit. All the big names are floppin'.

I don't think anyone could fault the promotion - the album is being worked hard. Hopefully the album has legs, since "I Wanna Rock" is now starting to catch a buzz.

Title: Re: snoop dogg sales next week

hopefully these poor sales mean that snoop gives up on tryin to make albums for the ladies, and goes back to his roots with a straight westcoast bangin gfunk style album like the old days. he'd most probably win back old fans and make new ones aswell. aint no real snoop fans tryna hear no lovey-dovey pop-rnb rap from snoop. think its about time he needs to stop trying to follow trends with pop, rnb & dirty south shyt, and represent your coast properly by making westcoast style rap music.

i wont hold my breath for this to happen tho  ::)

they are pusshing the promo hard. but are they pushing it the right way? for the right crowd? in my opinion they failed.

I'd say that they are pushing it the right way. There's been a welcome embracing of digital promotion (Snoop's Great 8 Countdown, Twitter, etc.) which is a good look - need to grant more interviews to online outlets though. He's also  been very visible on television and heard on radio stations so I can't really fault it.

As for to the right crowd - is that more of a commentary on the music? If so, I understand. Some people aren't going to appreciate the music that's being aimed at them on this release. If you're suggesting that he's marketing to the wrong crowd, though, I disagree. I think Snoop's longtime fans are aware of this album. Whether they buy it is on them.

i agree. he's making an album that doesnt appeal to his fanbase.
alot of snoop fans stopped buying snoops solo records starting from the 2002 release of "paid tha cost to be tha boss" and onwards.
from 2002 all the way to the present, he's been catering to the pop audience, and alienating his real fanbase.
when you only cater to the pop audience, you have to stay in fashion to them, and keep on switching up your style of music to whats hot in pop to stay relevant.
snoop is better off staying true to the westcoast gangsta rap sound, and people will buy his records for it.

All well deserved though, those album were all mediocre, playing it safe. I still think that good music on a major label sells well (Em, Jay, Kanye, Alicia...). I wouldn't count out Timbaland like that though, he only did like 120k with Shock Value 1 and he's got plenty of single material left on the album.

numbers could prove that it is a failure...I do not want to compare Snoop to Jigga (although they both released their 10th album) but although jigga didnt sell much on his first week, you could tell he had an impact, the ad for his album was crazy, the features had some Major and upcoming superstars, he had great videos, and great promotion stunts... and last but not least.. EVERYBODY has its favorite song on his album,  most of the songs on his album are memorable,  while on Snoopy's side, this album is just another reason why he will never be taken seriously

great to see B.G. is predicted to hit 40-50K, didn't expect that much at all considering he's just now starting to get a push from the label, he's even supposed to sell more than Clipse too.... damn

Snoop's longtime fans aren't feeling this album (look at the response from this forum for instance). And he's failed to draw in the pop crowd with a big single. Its a lose lose situation. A dope album might have made up for a weak single in the long run. But now he's fucked. He should have made an album for the fans, like he originally said Ego Trippin was going to be.

LOL at people wanting G Funk in 2009.

Anyway Snoops numbers are pretty bad ( I thought they'd be bad but Raekwon sold more than him) but its what he gets for making an album that aimed to appeal to everyone. It attempted to get to the mainstream audience and failed pretty miserably. Gucci did pretty well although with all the buzz he's had on the internet I'd thought he'd at least do a 100k. Hell even Chris Brown and Rihanna have flopped badly (although I'm not sure whether Xmas sales will help those two).

The Clipse did alright and they were supposedly undershipped (although thats everyones excuse) but it'd be nice if they could outsell Birdman. 50s numbers aren't looking as bad when everyone else is coming through with such weak numbers but I can see why Wayne and Game pushed their albums back. Probably spooked by the horrible numbers coming in.

I think some of the UK rappers are selling more than their US counterparts. Lol

Timbaland is a bit of a BAD flop wow

I haven't heard anything outside of this board or random sites about Timbos album, never heard a track on radio, in a club or at a party, or seen a video get play. So it's not surprising, Interscopes marketing team seem to have fallen the fuck off, or all been fired

No, Snoop still has it.

Susan is in second with 700 but Snoop is in first with 800.

Yeah it seemed Fifty did all the promo himself, interviews, appearances etc. Wheres the TV, Radio and Poster advertising? Em had some good advertising with that whole Relapse center they opened up in England for that day or some shit, website etc. Other than that, nothing. Black Eyed Peas got quite a bit, but yeah they fallen off big time

dont waste any money on this ... this is unlistenable for the most part ... I never thought I will say one day that Snoop has a worst album than "Da game is to be sold , not to be told " ... I was wrong

There is alot opinios if its a good albums or not, personally i think its a good mainstream album, but thats all its is. if you like the less mainstream Snoop get the " i wanna rock" mixtapes and the many leftover tracks. Or just buy "tha blue carpet treatment" or doggystyle.. I mean he have millions off fans :P

snoop still has highest first week sales for a debut, 900k.

I think it was just over 800k and I think 50 Cent beat him.

Terrible sales considering its his tenth solo. He should have been going in hard to do something special, instead we get malice in wonderland. No dre even though they been in the studio was dissapointing. Sure it could have all been for detox but surely dre and snoop could have come up with some snoop shit for his tenth solo. Dissapointing, i have huge respect for snoop as a solo artist too, but this is just dissapointing. Terrible numbers.

Whats even worse is he did it again claiming his album was gonna be something totally different then what ended up being put out. He claimed on many occassions early on that him and dre were working on his upcoming album. Even if dre did some mixing for the album its not much and i know everything dre puts out now isnt a automatic classic but i can guarantee if he woulda done some beats for snoop it woulda been a lot better then some of the crap that made the album. I still don't see how this guy doesnt see a album overseen by dre being a no brainer for success and sales.

Dr. Dre only mixed "I Wanna Rock".
