I love my west coast and east coast hip-hop including all their up and comers but real talk right now, the south STILL has the best up and coming rappers, hands down. I won't even talk about the commercial success of T.I., Wayne, etc. 'cause this thread is strictly for the future of hip-hop and which rappers I think are up and coming that will ensure the south stays dominating

I dunno..how many of them are really dope? I love the west but I think them 5 south MCs...peep that shit I posted..
And I ain't even include B.o.B. lol...
-
The west has a strong youth movement I just dont know if they will get their chance to shine.J.Cole is the shit though I make he makes it big he deserves. The rest are alright but not something Im that interested in.

ya they do but their chance to shine, I dunno..
damn bro. That Pill "glass" record is insane to me.
-
East Coast got a couple as well.
K Sparks is incredible

The west has a strong youth movement
the only west coast rapper from the 'youth movement' that comes to mind with any marketability at all is Problem (off the top of the dome)..

Nipsey
-
Marketibility is just a made up word for shitty a and rs if you ask me.Hell look at gucci mane, hes ugly as fuck and has a terrible voice and you can barely understand what hes saying, yet hes the hottest in the south right now.You cant say hes marketable.Anything can happen for anyone.

honestly, I don't see too much marketability there. BUT I must admit he has made it further than I would guess if he would (commercial wise) if u simply played me his music when i didn't know him and asked me "how far u think this cat can make it?"
Nipsey might be one of those rare surprise "gangsta west coast rappers" that actually do make a break through (Snoop, Game, etc)

he's marketable because that whole "sound" of his is extremely popular (trap music)
-
Hell jay z and biggie were of the ugliest motherfuckers to ever grace a mic and sold millions.
-

I ain't talking looks though. Just their overall sound of music in terms of marketability. I ain't saying Problem from the west is attractive lol. His music is very catchy and I can see it catching on.
-
If by marketible you mean make generic club music, then yes the south will continue to sell a lot of singles and chrun out shitty albums.
-

but these 5 people I posted are far from that description u just posted yet they are getting serious buzzes and coverage right now..there dope as fuck and getting the shine all 5 (6 with B.o.B.) they deserve.
Don't put the south in that box.
-
Ill have to invesigate further on some of them.J,cole like i said looks great.I checked out a couple of mixtapes by rain and he was pretty generic.B.O.B. excites me but still the west has more artists Im looking forward to.
-
That Pill "glass" record is insane to me.
4075: The Refill really exceeded my expectations, got me looking foward to The Medicine.
Seems like every coast has an up-and-comer at the moment. I hope they all get to drop their albums.

please ,nipsey's music is more catchy then problems music .. nipsey has better chance then problem of catching on today.
-
I thought I was the only one on here who was up on Pill... dude is sick
TRAP GOIN' HAM! 8)
-
Pill is fucking dope and "4075: The Refill" mixtape is absolutely insane. Check out Donnis as well y'all.

Nipsey, Jack Rock, Bishop, Glasses, Ya Boy >>>>
we say fuck sales in every other thread & how we hate mainstream artists.
you can call it "running the mainstream game", but that's a game that you shouldn't be proud to play in.
sales never mattered to me, even back when they were relevant.
so people didn't buy "so & so's" album; i bumped it, i thought it was dope.
not to take anything away from J. Cole or those artists, they are all dope; but if they are "marketable" & headed mainstream, we are hearing the best music they are ever going to make, right now.

Ya Boy is typical. Glasses is cool but he ain't nothing mind blowing. I definitely support him though. All these cats I posted as mentioned just happen to be DOPE but are getting the proper attention.
-
dont know why, but I tought Cole is from northeast ;D and you consider Carolina as south?
-
Right now i think we are in no where land in hiphop. I mean no coast is runnin shit anymore. Its all over the place.
-
I'm pretty sure I like rappers from the south than the west:
Rain
Stat Quo
J. Cole
B.O.B
Bobby Creekwater
The west:
Bishop Lamont
Clyde Carson
Slim Da Mobsta (maybe)
-
dont know why, but I tought Cole is from northeast ;D and you consider Carolina as south?
for the sake of hip-hop territory, it seems that Carolina has always been considered as "south"
-
dont know why, but I tought Cole is from northeast
that's because Cole raps like he's from the Northeast.
same shit from Rain.
honestly, you cannot tell based off their music that they are South.
-
its also because the south support their music and rappers make radio and club songs so most likely they get played like that
-
its also because the south support their music and rappers make radio and club songs so most likely they get played like that
Remember though the south didn't adapt to radio culture, it was the radio who started to do more material from the south, largely because of independent hustle. There's tons of west coast material that would be great on the radio, but there simply isn't enough ambition on our part to make it happen on large scale again.
-
What's fucking dumb is how mainstream hip hop categorizes music by region like it means anything. Most Mainstream rap sucks cock regardless of where its from these days, yet yall fall into the hype.

i agree.
basically this thread is saying Southern mainstream >>> everywhere elses mainstream.
-
^No, it's more about me bringing y'all some dope new southern MC's but y'all probably ain't up on (minus J Cole) for y'all to check out.
-
good look on that Pill link, dope track...know where i can get a hold of more shit from him to check out?

download his new tape "4075: The Refill"
http://rapidshare.com/files/318173060/P_-_4075TR.rar
if u really like him, get the first tape as well called "4081: The Prescription"
http://www.sendspace.com/file/8xhxaa
'The Refill' is better but 'The Prescription' is no push over at all.

south aint runnin shit based off of lyrics action they might have the spotlight on em....but its cuz of hte commercial shit they make
if lyrics arent involved it aint shit stat quo aint doin shit, bobby aint doin shit
not that other coasts got lyricists either

yeah, the spotlight is on Wayne & Gucci & Luda (but only his bitch tracks) & T.I. (but only his mainstream singles) & Jeezy (but only his singles).
hopefully guys like Wale & J. Cole one day shine for their dope shit; but to succeed in this league, it's obvious what you have to do lol.
-
I hate most of your perspectives that mainstream rap is crap. It's not. It has it's place. Most of it is good. Why would I want to listen to any of the Slaughterhouse singles in the club? I wouldn't. There's nothing wrong with club music. You're just a bunch of haters if you say there is something wrong with it. I'm sorry buy Gucci Man makes better club hip-hop than Slaughterhouse does. He can connect to more people than Slaughterhouse does through having fun.
Then most of you bring up this lame critique that it's pop music. Get the fuck off your high horses. You purists need to chock on something. Hip-hop has moved on. Get over it. There's nothing wrong with having rap music that's pop influenced.
Stop limiting what is and isn't hip-hop like you're some grand teacher.
It doesn't matter if anyone knows who Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, or Public Enemy is. It's great if people like him but there's nothing wrong with people thinking Wayne is the best rapper alive. Does it really hurt your feeling so much?
Most of you seem mad that the artists on the radio get shine. Um, who cares who gets shine as long as you get the music? Most of you probably are preachers but aren't even walking the walk by supporting the cats who aren't major.
-
i support everyone i say is dope
yeah i support rakim, krs one, big daddy kane, gza, rza etc...
now rakims latest album isnt dope all the way thru but its better than anythin wayne, gucci, baby etc...will ever make
-
My only point is cats like Gucci aren't trying to be like Rakim. Hell even Wayne isn't trying to be like Rakim. Rakim is doing Rakim while Gucci does Gucci and Wayne does Wayne. It ain't got shit to do with what's supposedly better or not. It's just different. There's a place for it all.
The only real reason the South gets hate is cause the money is going to them and not to the east or the west. End of story.
-
but when wayne says hes the best rapper alive...how is that not disrespect to the real best rapper that is currently alive which isnt in no way and never will be wayne
why would a coast be mad if we arent gettin money instead of another coast?
its comedy not jealousy at hand here
its comedy that some rappers can claim a gang and call themselves the best when they arent nuthin at all special on the mic
and dont get it twisted cuz rakim hasnt done shit in over a decade but still thats possibly the best rapper alive not gucci pucci
-
It's called braggadocio. Everyone does it to different degrees. It's all about bigging yourself up until people believe you. Wayne clearly did it enough. Budden does it but he says "world wide web" poking fun at himself yet being serious. There's not many humble rappers and it really doesn't matter. For the most part It's part of their job to claim they're the best.
To play contrarian who cares? Rakim isn't even in the game any more. If Rakim wanted to be better than Wayne let him fight for the spot. If no one is going to fight for it then let lil Wayne claim to be the best. Besides I'm sure there are some legitimate points one can argue over whether Rakim is the best rapper alive right now or not - vocal abilities, song concepts,et.c
Personally, I float between not giving a fuck and thinking like Nas said,
Never put me in top ten, bitch
It's disrespect to the life that birthed the verses
a nigga writes "Who comes first?"
It's the Ice Cubes, MC Shans - them type dudes
so B.E.T's list was wrong; don't get me wrong
I did chill in the throne alone for so long
- My Will (Honeymoon Is Over)
Who's the best? Pac, Nas and Big
Ain't no best - East, West, North, South
- Ether
-
yeah you got some valid points but damn im jus listenin to some of the lyrics rakim is still spittin at his age wit the production he uses....its damn near a fire that cant be put out....if only he took it serious and went all out
but i feel what your sayin bout claimin the best rapper alive but in wayne, jay, biggie and others case they were overrated and overhyped IMO
but rakim, krs one, gza are a rare breed and i can tell ima be listenin to them for years if they are spittin the same they are right now and years from now and even krs one states hes gon be spittin til hes 60..lol
but nah thats str8 talent and damn near greatness but theres nuthin, NUTHIN AT ALL THAT SHOUTS GREATNESS COMIN FROM JAY-Z, BIGGIE, NAS, EMINEM, when put up with rakim, krs gza (jus some examples but the main ones right now)
-
From a strictly lyrical point of view what's your top ten?
Doesn't matter if dead or alive.
-
in no order jus roughly to give you a list right now
krs one
rakim
gza
face
nas
andre 3000
rza
sticky fingaz
crooked I
dr. dre
again theres a few names that could be switched/replaced with others in there but theres a few that wont be replaced what-so-ever
-
no dr.dre? ;)
Dope list
Won't get an argument from me
I'd probably throw Cuck D up there
-
well actually i think dre is one of the dopest rappers period but i didnt want to put him cuz then you might think im sayin hes better than others but IMO dre is one of the coldest rappers to spit...now he doesnt write his own lyrics so thats a problem but again theres a few names in there id prolly change but thats a rough list with some of em bein in that list and stayin there like glue to a piece of paper
but no chuck d for me in there
2pac >>>chuck d and i had to choose quikly with either chuck or dre...lol
-
Dre's a perfectionist so of course the final sound of his flow will be on point but he doesn't write his own lyrics so I take Chuck D.
-
true but id still take dre
dre on the mic can be vicious again thats when he wants to be
the last couple of em traxx hes been on havent been his best work IMO
but when he goes in....its
dre>>>>>>nas, jay-z, biggie and more
hes really dope on the mic
-
lol like having talented rappers = a regions success.
The Souths current success proves this
-

just 5 dope names for y'all. Probably forgetting a few.
I gave a proper listen to each track. The only one that was kinda good out of those tracks is J Cole. The others are boring. You need a voice, style or flow that you can recognize nowadays. But I really don't think any of these rapper will ensure the south stays dominating... No way. There's no T.I. or Lil Wayne in your list.
-
new music is disgusting, listening to the radio is sick, which has been a trend for years now
all up and comers suck... at least 99%
-
minus a few responses, this thread won't over y'all heads lol
Thanks Wicked for actually listening though (your comment was good)
-
Oh yeah how can anyone forget the best new MC of the past 5 years:
JAY ELECTRONICA
