It's funny because they were 3 for 3 with me when Lavi was in charge.  To me, this is officially their first bullshit release.

DONT COMPLAIN SO DAMN MUCH!

Why aren't you glad they do put out unheard music and that they don't let some random mixtape DJ fuck it up?

I'll be glad when I download this (as this won't come out over here) and listen to it. Something is better than nothing.

Hahahahahahaha.

Why don't you guys shoot an email to john@wideawakehc.com? That's John Payne. Maybe he'll take it up to his superiors and ask them why they are releasing this bullshit. I already hit up the superiors and showed them every track minus one was leaked on Youtube. LOL. Shit is ridiculous.

The music industry is on a break till after New Year, so you know - we won't get responses right off the bat but I am coming out swinging. By the way, don't send emails to DeathRowMusic - that's Hyland's shit. We must all work together to prevent this release from seeing the light of day.

I hear what you're saying about people complaining, because there's been some complaining about every release Wideawake has put out so far.  Personally, I could tell the mixing on the first two projects was shoddy at best and downright bad at times, but I never cared much because we were at least getting unheard music.  I was actually pretty happy with their first three releases, and thought that in some cases people were taking their issues with them too far.  But this release is just a waste.  It's a waste of their time and money to put it out.  And it's a waste of our time to even download.  I agree with you that "something is better than nothing."  But if you look at the track list, this barely qualifies as something.  There's really only one unheard song.  I can understand them wanting to release a Kurupt cd because he is one of their more well known artists.  But why re-release "Against the Grain" under a different name when they could put out an actual cd of unreleased material from Kurupt.  I not only dislike this cd because I have no interest in it.  I dislike it because in my opinion, it's a misstep for them as a company to put this out.  Mark my words, they will not make money off this release.

Wait is this a hoax? Is this a compilation or a redux of against the grain...it's not an 'OG' and it's not stuff of the EP...

Really not exciting...and where's Kurupt's pic? That honestly looks like a bootleg like that Kalifornia compilation that came out in Europe.

This release looks like complete bullshit. They should have put out the OG Against The Grain and added a bonus disc with bonus songs. This is what the tracklist should have looked like if it was done properly.

1. Speak On It - (featuring Val C)
2. Anarchy
3. Throw Back Muzic
4. Deep Dishes
5. Stalkin’
6. Can U Feel It - (featuring Potion)
7. Slide N’ Slide Out - (featuring Eastwood/Big Tri/Young Tone)
8. Against Tha Grain - (featuring Big Tri/Young Tone/Eastwood)
9. Jealousy - (featuring Roscoe/M.O.P.)
10. Past, The - (featuring Dave Hollister)
11. My HomeBoys - (featuring 2Pac/Eastwood)
12. Bullshit & Nonsense
13. No Vaseline Pt. 2
14. Hustlin’ - (featuring Big Tri/Young Tone)
15. It’s A Wrap
16. One Thangs Fo Sho
17. One Thangs Fo Sho (Reprise) - (featuring Danny Boy)

Bonus tracks

Only Gotti
In Case You Didn't Know
Trouble In The Streets

Not only is this tracklist the OG Against The Grain but half the bonus tracks are actually unheards from '02, minus Boss Me Up & Frontline.

yup, this release is incredible weird and stupid - n definitely not a good move in the market. but i dont think it's necessary to shelve the whole project - if we could get the canadians to add a bunch of other unreleased/un-leaked songs (like a 10+ song bonus-disc), the project could survive and come out decent.

I hope you're right, and they re-think the track list for this.  I have gotten to were collecting Death Row albums has almost become a compulsion.  I think in my collection right now, the only official Death Row albums I don't have are "2pac Live" and the "Death Row Singles Collection."  But if I ever were to buy this, it would not be at retail.  I might someday buy a used copy off of amazon.com. But if this ends up being released with that track list, I fully intend to "vote no" with my wallet. The way I see it, I've already bought this project when it was called "Against the Grain."  No release this crappy should be supported.

glad someone else picked up on the flier saying 5 unreleased tracks when there are four on the tracklist...with three of them already readily available. It's fucked up they'd put the DB version of "One Thang's Fo Sho" on the album without the Kurupt version, but I guess they want to stay in the good graces of the DPG, so leaving it off made sense.

On a side note, anyone else feelin' the "Throwback Muzik" remix over the original?

also, did anyone ever rip the "ep" in 320 quality yet?

Nope, U Don't Know Who U Fuckin' Wit wasn't on the OG tracklist. I don't even think it was recorded in '04 with the other ATG tracks. It sounds '02/'03 to me. The tracks on the OG tracklist were all recorded in '04.

U Don't Know Who U Fuccin' with was done for a Kurupt and Kokane solo project that was never finished. The other ATG OG's were done in 02/03.

Good info, thanks man. I always wondered what that track was recorded for since it didn't fit with the ATG tracks at all.

the way i see it, wideawake could do the following:

1) dont release this
2) change the tracklisting to traks that havent leaked at all
3) provide another disc with unreleased songs

If I were them, I would go with option number 2.  I don't know why they feel this album has to tie in to "Against the Grain" at all.  The "Against the Grain" album is just a few years old, and from what I understand, they have older unreleased Kurupt material that's probably far superior to the "Against the Grain" stuff, anyways.

I can handle an Against The Grain re-release, just as long as they call it Against The Grain and stick to what was released/use the OG tracklist and have the bonus tracks on a separate disc.

Personally from a business stand point, it's a smart move. re-release an album from an artist still active, for the purpose of support and promotion, and add a few bonuses to make it different from the previous release.

However, having said that, if they were to do a re-release, I would have personally preferred a re-release of Nate Dogg's G-Funk classics - or similar track listing, with a bonus DVD disc of Nate Dogg videos (One More Day, These Days, Never Leave Me Alone, Regulate) some bonus studio footage - Eg: Nate singing O.G. verse in the studios and so on, and a few unreleased tracks to sweeten the deal. Not many people have the original pressing, and not many people have the out-of-print double disc of G-Funk classics double album either. <<< This, I could have supported fully

It's not a re-release though. It's some weird retitled version that takes out 5 tracks to add 3 more. If they put it out as an official re-release with the original tracklisting and some bonus material, it would be one thing but this just seems pointless to me. What exactly is the market for a project like this?

What they SHOULD have done is labeled it as a re-release and took out "Calico" and "U Fuckin' With The Best" as these were clearly last minute additions and add the tracks that were pulled off the project. Making it the official Against The Grain.

I mean, Death Row and Kurupt fans are not idiots, we know what this project is and what it isn't.

i hope it will get changed,. why re-release ATG with a couple added tracks. id rather have an EP wit just the added tracks. FUCKIN BULLSHIT

What i dont understand is why they are re releasiing an album that didnt sell well and wont sell well again. Where as if they put out an unreleased album they would more than likely get sales from people who follow Kurupt (like on here) and pick up some new fans. Where as by releasing what everyone already has there losing the original fan base on this release.

Title: Re: Death Row/WIDEAwake : Kurupt - Down and Dirty (Artwork + Tracklist)

It's not an ideal release for fans that's for sure.
They're probably just hoping to achieve some quick sales, no matter how few from material that's already been released by repackaging the cover, and playing around with the tracklist a bit. The fact that the 'reprise' is on here and not the original Kurupt version of One Thangs Fa Sho, shows that there isn't going to be any diss songs, which was a huge fan demand from Against The Grain and a let down that a lot was missing from it. They should have released the 92-97 Kurupt album though. Out of all the gems and hotter tracks to pick from:

40z and Bud
Go My Way
I Don't Bang
DPG 4 Life
Everybody needs to slow down

Some freestyle session tracks. Hell, theirs enough to do a full album worth easily, plus Dogg Food OG's and cuts, and other various tracks. Could have been a solid project, instead it looks like a re-cycled album

Yeah, it really just doesn't make sense. Like I said, even if they re-released it as the same album with new tracks, it might get collectors to go out and buy it but why put it out under a different title with about five less songs from the original and a couple of new ones? I jut don't see the reasoning here. I mean, if they did some odd compilation of Kurupt material that happened to include a bunch of released ATG songs, it would be one thing but this one really has me scracthing my head.

What's this? The first WIDEawake release since Lara's departure from the company? lol.

Anyone remember her original idea for Feburary of the double Danny Boy album, and a Women of Death Row compilation?

I guess we could have chose albums of unreleased tracks in tape-MP3 format, or albums in CDQ of re-cycled material that we've heard and didn't particularly like the first time round all that much. I guess it's picking the lesser of two evils, and we've picked ours. I wonder what's next after this? A Snoop Dogg greatest hits compilation featuring songs from "Snoop Doggy Dogg : Death Row's Greatest Hits" and 2 unreleased songs, which will probably be B-Side remixes? lol

It was to re-do your cover, because it had just leaked with no cover actually available in CD size. Are you using this post as just a means to get at him? I hate you cronies. He wasn't degrading your artwork, and this thread isn't even about his nor yours, so unless you have something positive to say - bug off.

I couldn't give two shits about beefing with anyone on the internet. I do covers and other promotional artwork, that's my thing.

I'm pretty sure you can agree that i have never been a part of any of this endless bullshit going on in the internet 2Pac scene, hell you might not even know who i am. I do know who you are though..

I saw this guy having an altered version of my cover under his own name so i spoke up, now is that wrong in some way?

I don't know him and have no beef with him, but i do have the right to protect what i have created.

EDIT: I rarely post on these forums so i'm not sure how this karma thing works under my name there, but i see it went south after only one post. Cool, i like the vibe here!

I know who the fuck you are. You were on MrMakaveli and did all of Litt's and Dante's covers for all of their projects. It's not an altered version, it was a recreate and you use officialpsds for stocks just like everyone else. So, I can't say much creativity was put forward on either part. Promotional artwork? Lol. Wow, when did bootleg covers become promotional artwork? You made your money off G Litt's and Dante's shit, so don't catch feelings because when it leaked you could have easily put out the covers yourself.

So you think all i do is make covers for Dante and G Litt? You just proved it right there that you know pretty much nothing about me. I have made a bunch of t-shirts for artists, album covers that are sold in stores, official mixtapes, magazine ads, posters, flyers, even key chains and belt buckles. If that's not promotional artwork then hell i must be pretty lost here.

Yes, that cover was pretty much based on collected renders from the internet, i'm not even gonna argue. It still doesn't change anything.

Why would i just put those covers out there myself? So that hot shots like Shortyo can bootleg the fuck out of these things? I might be wrong but as far as i know, the original full size cover files have not leaked, so if someone tries to press these up with my covers and sell them, they are gonna look like shit.

I'm not Dante you scuzzy fuck. But, your incessant mentioning of his name is disturbing.  Just a friendly fyi....you have multiple mentions of receiving cash from half assed rappers all over the internet. The IRS needs no more than that to open an investigation.  Any news on that court case this week? Oh, one more thing....change your fucking shirt once in awhile. Even for someone who's basically a homeless person with a computer...it's a bad look.

I rarely surf on this board and just happened to see your signature and thought you were trying to take credit for a cover that looks very much like mine. I didn't understand what you were trying to do, but i do now. I think it's great that you are learning photoshop and you've done well so far, so just keep at it! I too have a long way to go before i can really call myself professional, but i've come a long way since i started and hopefully i can continue learning. There are a few designer forums in the net where other cover artists give each other tips and review their work, so maybe you should check them out!

Aside from on compilations, I Wouldn't bet on a full length Eastwood album.

Which is a shame, but it's not like they really have anything to lose at this point by giving it a shot.

True.  I think a better [and more marketable product] after all the big names dropping [Dre, Snoop, Pac, Crook, Etc.] is a best of [All unreleased] compliation of sorts, with tracks from all the past artists.  Even tho Eastwood is one helluva certified rapper, there's no money in a solo album, compared to other things they could put.

Don't forget WIDEawake isn't JUST Death Row. They PURCHASED Death Row. It's an outfit of WIDEawake. WIDEawake was a label before they bought Death Row and will be after they stop releasing Death Row music.

Yeah, I understand what your saying.

I'm actually surprised they are considering the Sam Sneed project though. I'm not saying there's no interest in a Sam Sneed project, but to be honest, how much could it possibly sell in 2010?

I guess this is all really for the die hard fans though.

try telling that to tha WideAwake forum members  ??? it's like they don't get it, they're living in denial big time.  i liked Sam Sneed but if they were to release it they would have 2 include it as a double release with another artists album or release it as a digital download or something.  sam would sell like 89 copies and that's that.  they need 2 focus on the cream of tha crop and not tha dumb shit (CPO included, that nigga was just too nice back n tha day on deathrow 4 him 2 stay on tha racks in tha studio).

Sam Sneed will be released in worse quality than the bootleg, with promotion extending to 2 other rap forums, and youtube... Expect it to generate sales of a 4 figure number this time rather than the last, which sold a humiliating 3 number figure

You know you have a problem when even Death Row fans wont buy Death Row product. I found my Snoop - Lost Sessions CD the other day doing a clear out, forgetting about where it could have been in the house when I forst got it, and put it on again in the car, and what a crappy release this was. Good concept, cover and all, but the quality - ouch

Oh they are? Hmm.  I don't know, it would have to have alot of notables artists involved in it (for marketing and for music quality) to be a good release.

Yeah, I mean obviously alot of the best music Death Row made, made it to a retail CD.  You can't really expect much more than unfinished and unmastered music, in which case WideAwake don't have the funding or resources to compensate.
