Title: "The Black Album" - Jay-Z
Post by: Murrow on November 27, 2002, 03:10:57 PM
Jay-Z
The Black Album
2003
Roc-a-fella Records

"With seven platinum-plus albums, his stakes in Roc-a-Fella Records and Rocawear clothing, producing films and a distribution deal with Armadale vodka, Jay-Z's future looks brighter than ever. Sales for his combined interests in 2002 are projected at more than $300 million. And yet, amongst all this success, there is talk of retirement.

"My next album will be 'The Black Album' and then that's it. I want to make it a prequel to Reasonable Doubt, leading up to me having an idea for a song…and that's how the album's going to end," Jay told the Los Angeles Times. He continued to explain that he wanted to "loop the whole thing back together, make it a nice package, and that's it - it truly, truly is." Jay wants to move on to different things.

At this point in his life, Jay-Z is ready to offer his expertise to the rap game as an executive. His hopes include to become more involved with Roc-a-Fella's business element so that he can work with new artists, watch them grow, help them along the way and ultimately succeed.

Currently, Jay-Z's The Blueprint 2 hit #1 on the charts and sold 545,000 copies in its first week. He also appears on the 8 Mile soundtrack and on Missy's and Snoop's new albums."

See if this shit sticks.

I expect this album to be a undisputed hip-hop classic.

Nothing more, nothing less... I really hope Jigga succeeds.

Regardless of what happens, after his retirement he will be remembered as one of the greatest, most talented rap artists of our time.

Needless to say, I can't wait for the album... peace.

I expect this album never to see the light of day.  Jigga can't bare to leave the spotlight.  I would have believed him had he not made the exact same statement 4 years ago.

Hmmm... First off came Reasonable Dount, supposedly a one off.

Then dude said he was dropping one more album. But soon that one turned to two. And on "City Is Mine" he rapped: "I'mma hit you with these last two then split / and leave niggas with nothin' but my influence."

But then came Vol.3...

...then The Dynasty...

...then the Blueprint...

...then Unplugged...

...then Best of Both Worlds...

...then a Greatest Hits...

... then the Blueprint 2...

...and we're supposed he'll ever bow out?

Personally I don't mind, I'm a fan. But I know a lot of people here ain't feeling Jay - he really needs to stop teasing them with promises of retirement.

he needs to retire  from music period. he helped ruin hip hop and is a detriment to music, he just needs to marry beyonce and have a nice life  in the hills

I always knew your disliking of Jay-z was strictly musical and not personal as some might've mistaken. ;D

The reason why he says that is because he wants to sell records.

It's going to be one disk.  I think you might have got the 3 disk idea from when Biggie said he would make the triple CD Born Again after Life After Death then follow that with The Black Album.

To be honest, unless Jay goes back to his Reasonable Doubt style of beats and rhymes then this ain't gonna be that great. The original Blueprint nearly got there, but in the end it all got a little stale, and I haven't listened to that album for ages cause it just doesn't interest me no more.

Blueprint 2 sucks badly, damn i'm even feeling Dynasty more than BP2.

If he makes a stone cold classic then I think he will retire, otherwise he will probably just keep going, putting out albums every year until the day that he dies. Even when he takes his "executive" role you know that he will be all over Rocafella releases, making guest apperances on tracks and appearing in all the videos. He just won't be able to resist the fame.

Yeah, but think about it..
7 years.. 8 albums.. each one going platinum, and several of them double or more..
Bank-account= $$$ Unlimited, spend what the fuck you wanna spend, if you go zero, the bank'll give you unlimited credit..

Jigga is 32 now, and if I was him.. I know for sure that I would never lift a finger for the rest of my life.. I'd spend the days on some tropical island with topless chicks serving drinks & giving head..

But then again, Jigga loves to be in the limelight.. lol
