Right, I've worked in retail for like 7 years now. But horribly I've worked in the same building for all of those 7 years. It was a Woolworths before they went out of business and it is now a discount kinda store. Anyway, I've basically felt very unhappy in this job for the last few months, not really because I dislike the job but because since around October we have had a new manager and she's honestly the most horrible woman I have ever met. I have been going over the decision to leave for a while now but everytime I pluck up enough courage I get somebody telling me not to do so. I am a supervisor in my workplace and I've impressed over the last year but this woman has pretty much come in and has made me feel so miserable that I dread getting up for work in the morning. She's an awful manager, has no communication skills and I know for a fact I can manage and run the store better than her. But she's very critical and she's always got an answer for everything. Basically the woman is a bitch and I'm sick and tired of her. I can give you examples but I really can't be bothered typing them. I'm 24, the money is awful, the responsibility is good but for what I'm doing the money certainly isn't there, as I said before I've been in the same place for years, I'm up at 6am a lot, work weekends, I have a degree and think I could be doing so much more. What would you guys do? And has anyone ever been in a situation like this before? I've never quit anything in my life, literally anything!

Well its kinda like once you do that you don't have a leg to stand on. I mean, I've got her on stuff that I know if I tell the area manager about he will have to take action, such as stealing, and lying about certain things in the store, so I'm thinkin, I leave her my resignation tomorrow and send the area manager a letter aswell, but his letter will include a list of these things she has done.

try to get that bitch fired or to quit FIRST... and if you don't succeed at that then I would just start looking for another job and don't quit your current one until you know for a fact you're hired at a new place

Ive been in that situation before. Not in retail, but with a female boss who was a strait up bitch. Mostly cus she was a snake and would make us managers look like shit in order to save her own ass when she would fuck up. Nobody trusted her and she created an environment where people werent happy about coming to work anymore. You shouldnt quit your job cus of your boss though. UNLESS you are unhappy with the job itself. If it is just her that bothers you...see if there is a way to sit down with her and get everything out in the open before it turns into some big blowout at work. If that doesnt work, talk to her boss and see if there is a way to transfer or work under someone else. If you do that, just be sure to approach it with the company in mind. The thing is, she is your boss and her boss will defend her first. So if you bash her, they wont necessarily take your side. But if you say that you feel like you could do a better job working with someone else and voice your concerns about her, then you show that youre concerned with the welfare of the store/company. If youre simply tired of the job...then yeah, find another one before you lose it and do something stupid and lose this one as a reference. Its good not to work in retail for TOO long anyways, so your next job should be something different if you can. Otherwise, youll pigeon-hole yourself and it might be hard to find jobs outside of retail ever.
If none of that works....just kill the bitch...

That's why I'm going to quit and then send him the list of shit she's done. I just can't see myself continuing to work for her which is crazy for me because I get along with everyone but she's just the most difficult person I've ever came across. She's stuck up, snotty, a bitch, contradictive and I know for a fact she's got some phycological issues because I accidently came across a file of her the other day. But that's beside the point. Since she took over, one supervisor has left, the deputy manager has gone and now it looks like I'm out the door. I think there is definatly something going on with her.

You are 24 dude, you barely have a taste of the real work world. Are you just going to get upset and leave every job you get where you don't get along with your boss? Sure, sometimes it is not worth putting up with. And sometimes you will get a great boss. But the fact of the matter is, you have no control over your boss...its completely out of your hands. But how you handle yourself, is completely within your means. Sometimes the best solution is finding a new job, but I don't think that is the right solution, because odds are the same thing is going to happen to you again more than once in your career.

I'm just so unhappy here. I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel and I've literally felt like this for around 4 months so its obviously not getting better.

yeah, its not worth making your life miserable because of your job. What I am trying to point out is that, basically, most jobs suck. I mean, all the crap myth's that you get told when you are a kid, about how you can grow up and be anything you want, and how education and hard work leads to success, etc. For the most part, it is a bunch of bullshit. The real work world is not fair. I don't know what country you are living in, but pretty much the entire global economy is very bad right now. At least w/ your job you have been there for awhile. You go to a new job and they have layoffs, you will be the first to go.

I'm basically a store manager and I'm gettin around 700 pound a month after tax, that to me is a joke. Especially considering the hard work I do. But I've got friends who work for the fire service, auditing companies and even just on the phones for companies and they are picking up around 15 to 20 G's a year, were as I'm making around 10. I think today is going to be my last day. I'm in 2-6 so I'm going to go in do my shift and then tomorrow I'm going to goto work with a letter and my uniform and key and everything, I've had it. She will have a go at me today aswell because I told her I couldn't come in at 1 instead of 2. My degree is in Media Film and Television. I mean surly there is something better out there for me.

hey man I was lucky I found two jobs that I fell in love with.........one was shut down from the recession and the other was named the lucas stadium when I was working at it it was the RCA Dome and I worked as a housekeeper..............when I worked at Rumpke I made 450 a week...........I made 350 from RCA dome............and both of those are before taxes............

Yeah I mean Ive been close to qutting so many times but it obviously has its positives and negatives. Im still very unsure of what to do. Im so unhappy but I might at least wait until April to see if my old manager returns. She was very cool.

Hey bro I know exactly what you're talking about. I went thru the same shit. I left a good paying job because I couldn't stand the people or the business. I had a lot of people second guessing me and tell me i was crazy to leave a good job in this economy etc. But those people aren't walking in your shoes and if your job is physically making you sick and shit like that, it's not even worth it to me. I've dealt with some unbelievable assholes on a daily basis and that shit grinds on you.
My advice is to move on. Get another job somewhere else. Sounds like youve got good experience and a degree. You can find something else. Peace

I've been unemployed for 5 months now and I'm no closer to getting a job. But you have better things for your CV than me so you are probably more likely to get a decent job than me.

word their real funny about giving you anything if you quit a job...even if you do you wont get anything for about ten weeks and they are prone to fuckin up payments...you'd rather clean streets?? atm you'd be lucky to get that unless u know someone who works sites and then you might get a day here or day there

i was pretty lucky when i quit my job as the place i worked was blacklisted at the job centre, so i managed to get paid full JSA for about 6 months. but in that time i couldnt find another job and ended up going back :-\
