As with American music, there are a whole lot of genres for music that is from Mexico.
Most popular form is probably "Mariachi"
I personally don't like it very much, I prefer NarcoCorridos which is basically the best way to get info from the drug wars going on in Mexico lol

To people that don't really listen to it sounds the same, but obviously it's not. It's the same thing how people say all hip hop sounds the same, all rock sounds the same etc. If you don't like it, most likely you're going to say it sounds the same. Even more so, when you don't know the language.

Definitely respect Ramon Ayala, but nobody listens to that anymore. Only on rare occasions. The same way how people once in a while bump classic oldies. The new songs are fucking dope, and they're really dope when they are actually talking about the shit that is going down in the cartels in Mexico.

Maybe South Texas is a bit different in terms of how music is corridos are appreciates, but in L.A. there is a lot of people from Sinaloa and Michoacan, specifically in my area (South Gate, Lynwood, Downey, etc) usually the newer stuff is being bumped. Most of the hits that mainstream norteño singers get popular were probably written by some small band that just sold the rights to the song and continue to play at local clubs and house parties.
