Title: "Stillmatic"
Post by: Murrow on December 02, 2002, 05:19:05 PM
Man...this is the first time I've really listened to the album since it dropped a year ago.  This shit is fucking classic.  It is the best album to drop in the past few years easily.

Like someone said earlier; it packs everything.  The diss songs (Ether, Destroy & Rebuild), the club bangers (Got Urslef A..), the conscious tracks (One Mic, My Country, Poison) and everything built around it.  This is prolly the first hip-hop record really is focused on lyrics/raps that I love.

I just put this album in today and it is banging.  It is getting me so hyped for "God's Son" too.

Paaaaaaceeeeee

Why don't you think it is classic?

Nas came back so strong.  He flows are unbelievable.  "Rewind" is fuckin landmark just for its concept.  Wouldn't it be cool if he did a 'Fast Forward,' and did that track the other way around.  Man, "Everybody's Crazy" is another great song, Nas's flow is great on that one.

Count me in on this.
You can add me to that list.  Stillmatic was a hell of a lot high than average.  It's got battle rhymes (Ether, Destory & Rebuild), concept records (One Mic), storytelling (Rewind), politics (My Country), he drops knowledge (What Goes Around) & just straight dope hip-hop records (You're A Man, 2nd Childhood...)  This album has enough soon-to-be classics.  The only record people seem to put down is "Braveheart Party".

 ;)

shut up dork...what makes your opinions the consensus on what a classic is? i dont think its a classic, i think that term has been violated so oftern ive lost count....

shit if u count Lost Tapes, still matic is nas;s 4th best album

It's close but probably 4.5/5...I think it's about tied with It Was Written for Nas second best...I myself don't consider lost Tapes to be an official album, more of a compilation of Nas best unreleased songs...I mean Snoop and a lot of other artists could make a Lost Tapes and it would be comparable...Back to Stillmatic I think a couple of songs could've been left out especially the godawful Braveheart Party which was on my copy...Nas lyrics are on point as always, the beats are so-so but i ain't checking for beats when I listen to Nas...Take out a few songs and you have Illmatic 2...

I've considered this a classic since it dropped, the only real thing that was stopping it from being a full blown classic then was that it was new, and you can't judge longevity when something is that new, but it's still great to me now so I guess it's passed that test (alot of albums get boring after a few months, or sometimes even weeks, so a year on and still being able to enjoy it is a good sign). If any of your remember the break down of 'Face's "The Fix" I did a few months back, look at the reasons I gave for that being a classic and apply them to "Stillmatic" and you'll see that this album really is worthy of being a 'classic'.

What the hell is that?

First off, the "Stillmatic Intro" is as good as it gets for an intro.  That's gotta be left on.
Second, "Smokin'" & "Everybody's Crazy" are different songs.
Third, you're missing some gems from the second half ("What Goes Around", "Every Ghetto")
Fourth, what would the reason for having "Street Dreams (Remix)" on there be?

I am a huge Nas fan, but to me Stillmatic ain't classic!  It is Nas 3rd best cd behind Illmatic and It Was Written........Stillmatic has incredible songs on it, including NAS best song since Nas Is Like in You're The Man.  I dont know, it is hard to say the album is classic but it is pretty close.  IT has great replay value, dope commercial songs (Got Yourself, and RULE ).....Rule woulda been HUGE.  Great concept songs too, and of course the dis song.  However, there are a couple wack joints like Smokin And Braveheart Party.  An album does not have to be perfect to be classic, but to me this still aint classic, especially after hearing the newer shit on Lost Tapes like Doorags, Purple, and Black Zombies rmx.  If nas would had those three joints on there, he coulda had a classic.

THe reason people dont drop classics nowadays is they have to rush to make an album every year, so the albums are always inconsistent.

i said it wasnt a classic, it wasnt a  5/5 album, from that reasoning you should be able to deduct that there were some filler tracks on it...i cant think for you Moron

btw, i dont want you to agree with me, just dont be stupid and snap at me woman!

all the beats on stillmatic are very good but the best have to be the stillmatic intro.
the all album is incredible and its a classic to me, but i think that the lost tapes is better.
