Religion is always the same bullshit, wether you believe in god or the Almighty Tree. Regarding this statement, complete nonsense, all Africans are either Christians or Muslims.
Not because of the slave trade but because of centuries of colonialism (Christianity). So in my opinion, the statement that this someone made is not only fucking ignorant but also wrong. I'm so glad that you never come across such people in Germany.

I always thought it was more of a blend from slaves not trying to give up their culture completely, which is a good thing. It gives Louisiana the unique culture that only exists in that part of the World.

Around 30% of the slaves were actually Muslim.
Many of the rest practiced traditional religions such as the glorification of ancestors and so on I wouldn't describe it as witchcraft. Sure there were many superstitions involved in the religions of Africa and there still are today, but the same is true for white religious practices coming from Europe, look no further than Greek mythology at best; and the Salem witch trials at worst.

Back to topic. It is a ridiculous statement, like as if blacks should be grateful for slavery.
But when you think about it, if it did happen at least it happened in a Western country with a degree of compassionate Christianity, but more importantly: a political, legal and philosophical lineage of freedom. A spark from the Enlightenment movement. A fire that needs to be kept burning.

It was the elite's goal to kill indigenous people all over the world.
