Word, I never really think of Dre as being that representative of the West Coast because he works with just who he thinks is good (which is a better idea than just working with people from one area)
Also, the original Chronic crew wasn't really West Coast - he flew Rage in from Virginia, DOC is from Texas, Kurupt is from Philly...
Plus 2Pac lived more than half his life on the East coast

I'm not a Jay-Z fan, mainly because I don't like his voice and his flows are all kinda the same and a bit boring, but the guy is lyrical, especially as far as mainstream rappers go
The lines he wrote for Still DRE were dope - "break ya neck, damn near put your face in your lap, tryna be the king, but the ace is back"
And the "...word to the hyphen in my name" line was dope on Watcher 2
He is capable of being dope and I think Dre will bring out the dopeness in him. Unlike say Wayne, who I don't think is capable of being particularly dope (though if it's on one of Dre's best beats, then anyone will sound dope)

i would put money on most of the people complaining about Jay-Z and other non-westcoast rappers who are speculated to be on Detox are 15 years old who just discovered 2Pac a couple of years ago and are still into the Westcoast Vs Eastcoast fued.

Yeah. I wish they would make a video for Under Pressure so we could see if it says Detox in the credits as its album affiliation.
I wrote this in the other thread but I'll repeat: it doesn't make sense to release a lead single 7 months before the album drops. The whole album would leak within that 7 month interim, and Detox would get pushed back all over again.
One thing is for sure, if Detox is real, it will be a very mainstream album. As for the rest of what's been discussed recently, I'm probably not going to post in any more Detox threads because it's just not worth the effort. When people dismiss The Chronic as being a rushed album and Still Dre is better than all of The Chronic and when people say Detox is going to be perfection with no way to back up that claim...it's just people showing their age (teenagers) who weren't around when Dre was the Michael Jordan of hip hop and who don't understand how great he was. Elif4zaggin, The Chronic, Doggystyle ... that's a hell of a run 20 some odd years ago. I don't see how you can just all of a sudden go back to being in your prime 20 years later, let alone surpass it. That's not how athletes, artists, creative people operate. You rise and fall. I question the artistic inspiration for Detox. I'm sure it will be technically mind-blowing. But great art is not necessarily about technique alone (engineering, mixing, etc. "studio craft" in a nutshell). Studio craft doesn't make great art, and I've yet to be convinced Dre is artistically inspired right now. Hell, they're promoting Dre's music based on its technique (i.e. the way it sounds -- sheer acoustics) not based on artistic inspiration -- I mean, not based on a brand new idea, such as G-Funk. That has me very concerned.
Anyway, I'm out until Dre drops some music.

Yeah. I wish they would make a video for Under Pressure so we could see if it says Detox in the credits as its album affiliation.
I wrote this in the other thread but I'll repeat: it doesn't make sense to release a lead single 7 months before the album drops. The whole album would leak within that 7 month interim, and Detox would get pushed back all over again.

I think Dre is more relevant than people give him credit for. He's someone who can dissapear for several years and when he comes back, people still give a shit. Having Jay on the first single (or first released track) definitely won't harm the project but I don't think it's a matter of Jimmy demanding him be on that song.

While I understand the criticism towards the notion of having Jay on the first look, there's no denying he is one of, if not the biggest name in hip hop right now. The old school fan base knows him well, as does the new school fan base. I'm not the biggest Jay-Z fan in the world, but you don't have to be one to realize his stature and the fact that he's still relevant nearly 15 years into the game.
I think that's the vibe Dre wants for his comeback, or at least as far as his reintroduction in concerned. The whole 'age is just a state of mind', more mature type of approach. I just saw Jay-Z rock a sold out crowd at Madison Square Garden a few weeks ago on the BP3 tour, the energy in that arena was crazy when he performed. Do I wish that Dre had a West Coast cat riding with him on his first single? Of course, the traditionalist in me wishes he'd stick to the formula that calls for Snoop riding shotgun with D.O.C. in the back, like old times. But I guess times change, and Dre's got something else up his sleeve. Jay or no Jay, I just hope the lyrics and delivery are on point and the beat is fire. Assuming it's actually dropping...

Detox has been delayed multiple times, as its original release date was supposed to be in 2005. Dre was interveiwed before the first game of the year for the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
