Pretty disappointing, but not all that surprising.  We all kind of knew that this would most likely consist of mostly leaked material.  I was still holding out hope that they'd put 4 to 5 totally unheard tracks on here.  But it looks like all they're giving us is one unheard song.  I look at this as a missed opportunity on Wideawake's part to fix their already-damaged reputation. With all of the issues that their past projects have suffered from, it seems to me that many people already look at them as little more than a glorified FTP (succeeding only in beating FTP with their projects' lower price points).  Had they given us a Crooked I album that included unleaked material from "Say Hi to the Bad Guy" or "Untouchable" I think this could have been a modest success.  But as is, I doubt this will do very well.  Might outsell the Danny Boy album, but that's not saying anything.  I'm still going to support this project.  But there are a lot of people that I think won't support it, after seeing this track list.  And I can't really blame them.

John Payne or whoever is in charge of picking songs needs to do more research, I understand they are gonna release leaked tracks but there had to be at least 4 or 5 unheard songs on the album.

I dont see any Untouchable era songs so one thing i think is this is a pretty accurate version of what Say Hi to the Bad Guy would have been in 2002.

Yeah.  I think you're right.  I think they're all "Say Hi to the Bad Guy" tracks.  With that being the case, I wish they would have just released it with the original artwork under the name "Say Hi to the Bad Guy."  The artwork and name change now seems totally pointless.

It's Ray J not Danny Boy. Danny Boy didn't come back till 2003. Also, the tracklist is bullshit and they forgot to list Jim Gittum as credit for the intro and Live At The Row. What a bunch of idiots.

If it is Danny Boy, I think he could only improve it.  The K-Ci version is terrible, imo.  The FTP version with just Ray J was way better than the one with K-Ci.  Maybe someone on the Death Row website should ask the admin. for clarification on that.

But I'm saying there's alternate versions to some of these songs

I'm surprised they chose to use the "So Damn Hood Remix" with Juvenile, without including any version of the "So Damn Hood" original.  Either way, it's a pretty crappy track list.  At least the version of "Me and My Dog" is a little different.  I guess that technically makes two tracks that weren't leaked.  Still, they could have put out an entire album of unleaked tracks if they wanted to.

if it was big hutch on the mixing or whatever, they wouldnt be using a remix of so damn hood. which happened because he left death row so they had to take the moog out. hence why u have the shitty vegas copy with waterdrops or some shit lol. im guessing this is the first version of the album? just wondering since "should have made you my wife" was suppose to be a lead single?

And the version with ray j sounds better then the version with danny boy of me and my doggs. That was probably my favourite leaked song from the bootleg ray j sounded great on the chorus.not really a fan of danny boys vocals.

This is so fucking retarded. Hyland doesnt know what hes doing, but obviously he must have SOME sense. I mean come on, why would someone put out released tracks, surely he must know that they have been released. I dont think Wideawake they are that stupid. There must be a logical explanation for it. But the fucker has even blocked his name out on the WA forums. Next line up after this is probably sneed.

There is, but it's beyond the comprehension of the average fan. There's two reasons why we are getting shitty quality tracks and already released ones.

Whats the two reasons lol

One, they don't have access to the actual catalog catalog anymore or they are using MP3 rips from certain people. This was proven with Danny Boy's shit, Kurupt's shit, and Crooked I's shit. They had DAT's for Danny Boy before Lara left, multiple ones actually that were mixed and non-skippy.  Two, Hyland's just very fucking stingy.

Is Hyland really still the one calling the shots on the track lists?  I know that assertion has been made before, but someone named Sonya Pead is being credited as the "Project Manager."  If Hyland is in charge of putting together the track lists, then all of these already-leaked tracks conveniently showing up on here would at least make sense in a way.  If it's not Hyland who's choosing the tracks, the only other possibility I can think of for them choosing these tracks, is that whoever is choosing is not spending any time familiarizing themselves with what has and has not leaked.  Either way, there's really no excuse for it, when they had plenty of unleaked Crooked I material
to choose from.

Hyland helped them catalog and did choose a lot of tracklistings such as Lost Sessions. I wouldn't doubt he did it for Hoodstar. Hyland calls a lot of the shots up there due to he hugs Robert Thompson's nuts like no other and the idiot accepts the fag for what it is.

It's just a shame that someone can't take control of the company who knows what they're doing.  The people who have it now are totally disinterested in even having it.  In fact, they want out.  Having people like that at the helm is probably never going to yield great releases.

What a bunch of morons. Their fanbase is already so small because everybody forgot about Death Row and nobody except the die hards give a fuck anymore, and they put out shit like this that is a slap in the face to the few fans they have remaining. The only thing we can hope for is better mixing and a proper mastering job but I'm not holding my breath. With Hutch, I guess there is a little hope since he did a great job IMO with Dead Man Walking and some other releases while he was at Death Row.

And as for Danny Boy replacing Ray-J on that track, I'm surprised nobody has brought up the fact that he could've recorded that last month for all we know since he is in tight with WideAwake. I can definitely see them having no paperwork to clear Ray-J so they hollered at DB to replace him.

With all due respect but people who have been able to obtain certain DR material before anyone else need to stfu and chill and be happy about what they got. No need to flaunt or whatever just be happy about it point period.

True. I guess we won't know for sure if they used mp3's till the album drops but we won't be surprised if that is the case. They credit a mastering person and an engineer so I wonder what the engineer was used for.

I believe quite a bit of the material on here is either from "Say Hi to the Bad Guy" or at least the "Say Hi to the Bad Guy" recording sessions.  I'm less sure about how many of these tracks would have actually ended up on the final version of "Say Hi to the Bad Guy" but I have a feeling that at least some of them would.  I don't think any of the tracks on here are from "Untouchable."

Minus that song with The Dogg Pound from the FTP version. That was for Too Gangsta For Radio. Also, R.I.P. Buntry, Take The Title, and a few others I can name weren't meant for Say Hi To The Bad Guy. I know this, because I know the one of the people who were privileged enough to hear the one that got sent to Def Jam when they were shopping for distribution.

the only track that belonged in untouchable is dollaz in my hand from the ftp ep version, everything else in the 2 versions is from the first version of say hi to tha bad guy

Fag.

This was 2001, no one really knew what they were talking about when it came to certain stuff unless they had personal connections. Also, Legendz, if you're speaking to Omar again - that's the same guy who didn't know who Kurt Kobane was till I tried introducing him.

Yes. House Party was meant for three things - Untouchable, Eastwood's album, and Dysfunktional Family. They remixed the original version I believe after Hutch's departure.

+1 to Tanner and Mick

there isn't a version with more than 1 Crooked verse out there is there?  that song is still great, but in my opinion lacks a 2nd Crook verse from making it a classic.  def a great song to blaze and drink to.

There's no way "So Damn Hood" would have been a better single in '02 than "House Party".

1) Sisqo's popularity was fading pretty fast by the time the single would have dropped. Sisqo was played out before the song premiered on Hot 97. People would have looked at Sisqo in the same light as Ja Rule right after 50 Cent blew up

2) Ray J had a pretty decent hit with "Wait a minute" during the summer and fall of '01. He was still marketable, actually even more marketable since he was now known more for his music rather than being Brandy's brother

3) The vibe of "House Party" would have fit the rap music scene in that time. "So Damn Hood" sounded out of place (it's a good song, but as a marketable single it stood out). In that time, a track like "House Party", which was more laid back, would have been a much more successful single than "So Damn Hood", which clubs probably wouldn't play.

If "House Party" dropped in the spring of 2002, we would see a legit Death Row Crooked I album being released worldwide that would have been successful.

Exactly, "So Damn Hood" was played on Hot 97 and just didn't take off like they wanted it to.

It was never one of my favorite Crooked I songs, but I do appreciate it for what it is.

And you're right, "House Party" has club banger written all over it, such a great song.

Unreleased stuff you have doesn't hold much value, and will siphon out eventually, as some has, but the physical rarities you have, I'd keep on to them as some can fetch a good amount. I know 3 items in particular that you have (1 you already mentioned to me yourself) that can fetch a good amount if kept and not shoved onto some bidding site

Like Giesuz said, House Party could have had potential as a single. I actually pictured a clean version of this track with altered lyrics for radio. Could have been a decent mid-card hit on the radio's to put a project to gold status, a status Death Row badly needed at the time

I agree. House Party is more a filler track to me.

Does anybody know when exactly Ray j and Big Hutch left tha row??
Big Hutch didnt do any work for Say Hi to Tha bad guy ..right???
When did they start working on Say HI tO Th Bad Guy anyway ??
And does some of the Ray j and Danny boy songs also exist with J Valentine Hooks? ;D
and another qustion is how many Ray j songs were remade with Danny Boy for Say hi to tha bad guy??

This whole thing is so confusing. Thats why i want a album with a really existing tracklist.

Giesuz, you're a Death Row head, you'll know that that track was meant for Say Hi To The Bad Guy, or maybe your memory's a little rusty at the moment. I don't know what other title it may have had, but it is a different track to Cali Love part.3, or anything else leaked. It is actually unleaked to this day. That tracklist is just my guess as to what may have been accurately close as possible to when it was shopped about at different distributors. I could be wrong though. The bonuses would sway any would-be distributor off the project though. One dissing the hell out of a commercial artist (Koch wouldn't even condone this one) and another commemorating the life of a blood affiliate

The track list actually features a couple additional big name features that haven't been listed yet.

There is a physical CD of Say Hi To The Bad Guy that was sent to labels such as Def Jam, etc around the time of it's completion.

The LSN and the Hood Star CD (or any combination of the both) shouldn't be viewed as the SHTTBG track list.

The Jadakiss & Scarface features shouldn't be confirmed as SHTTBG tracks

i agree with u and took ur advice on the items i mentioned to u, also that list that you just posted is actually a very close list to the tracklisting to the first version of shttbg.....this could have been released in 2002-03 with no problems but in today's market no one wants to hear slap bacc or RIP Buntry

So did lavi take the catalogue with her?

It's a rumor I have heard, and I believe it to be very true.

How do you take a whole catalogue ?

Because of the way things worked, she had access to everything from the Pacific Storage Archives. She was working on getting a studio set up for all the stuff to be stored at.

Yeah, I don't believe that shit for a second. If Lara stole the whole fucking catalog don't you think that Wideawake would know because the shit would be missing. And if that happend then it's a no brainer who did it. Man, they would have her ass locked up so fast it would make her belly fat vibrate. The reason why Wideawake has been releasing low quality shit is simply because they aren't making any money off of these releases and therefore they don't want to invest any money either. They don't realize that the reason they aren't making money is because they won't invest into finding somebody to mix the records properly.

Glad to hear. Maximum profit in today's climate can't secure maximum value of the product. I seen a tracklist over chat one night around 2004 on AIM when talking about DR music, and I tried to recall the tracklist, and can remember that 2 tracks were questionable amongst distributors. A blood dedication and Snoop Dogg Diss. Not until years later you realize what they tracks were, which is why I shoved them on there as bonuses, and added in track titles that stuck to mind. I still believe Death Row could have went gold with Crooked I whatever they released. He had major buzz to shift 6 figure numbers at the time

It probably wouldn't have done huge numbers but with all the time and money they put in, it probably could have done alright business. Between the billboard, TV appearances, and studio time, they could have given it a shot.

In 2002, gold would have been inevitable. Death Row was still a somewhat active label with a Death Row, and Hip Hop general fan base craving for a Crooked I release. He was basically the reason the Dysfunktional Family soundtrack sold what it did, and they had a video(s) ready to go, as well as some big names to assist in the sales - Murder Inc, Rockafella etc. Cam'ron wnet platinum in 2002, Outcast sold over 10 million in 2003. Basically the music industry still shifted multi-platinum easily in these years even up to 2006

interesting maybe your tracklisting comes close to the truth
but i still have problems with the RAY j/DB and Big Hutch (fuck em , house party) situation.
And i also remember somebody saying that LaLA would be on the album. That was back in april/may 2002.

And now i wanna hear "Welcome To Los Angeles" and the Intro/Outro (if its different)  8)

ps: Hoodstar is a good song but the background beat is too simple and got no power ...and no real death row vibe. Hoodstar could have been a banger like "we ballin". But It sounds like something is missing.  I was hoping the whole time that there is a different version out there.
