Title: Raekwon Dropping 'Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang' This September Sans RZA
Post by: Elano on July 19, 2010, 10:32:26 PM
Considering how easy it is for rappers to fade into obscurity as they age, it's almost heartwarming to see Raekwon, who turned 40 this year, continue to be successful. To be fair, he and the rest of the Wu will always have rabid fans thanks to a stream of classic solo LPs and, of course, their seminal group debut. But when you think of prolific rappers, Rae isn't usually the first that comes to mind. Yet, perhaps because of a killer 2009 and already strong 2010, he's ready to drop another album on us this September.

But this time around, Vibe is reporting Rae is apparently opting out of any collaborations from RZA. This isn't that much of a surprise considering RZA only produced three of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...Part II's 22 tracks. While the production team for Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang remains unknown, Rae has said he has some surprises in store. What is known, though, is that he's joined in the booth by fellow Clan members Method Man, Ghostface, GZA, and Inspectah Deck along with Black Thought, of the Roots.

The article makes it sounds like its another Rae solo, I thought this was supposed to be the Clan's album but without RZA production. They hated their last album so I think production should be handled by Wu affiliates to capture that chinese sound. Keep non affiliate producers to a minmum.

La Coka Nostra: a brand you can trust and, Slaughterhouse is the top 2.

imo some fans let the idea of slaughterhouse overshadow and cloud their judgement of just how good the album actually was...4 dope rappers, considered to be amongst the best out at the moment, who between them spat ABC rhymes for a full album, over some dope, and quite a few not-so-dope beats...perfect example of an overrated album to me

la coka nostra is a dope album, ill give u that, but there's nothing there that really sets it so far apart from OB4CL2 imo

for me there werent many albums in 2009 that flowed and came together better than OB4CL2 (apart from the dre tracks)

You think OB4CL2 was one of the worst albums of 2009 and Slaughterhouse was second best?

RZA didn't even have the best beats on OB4CL2 so I don't know how you've come to this conclusion.

Theres producers out there that can bring that Wu sound. Doesn't just need to be just RZA to make me enjoy a Wu release. He is the definition of falling off when it comes to producers anyway. Just take a listen to 8 Diagrams

I agree but to me "Black mozart" is one of the best song/beat of the album.

I don't like the others, just Crooked, so I don't think my oppinion is 'overshadowed and clouded"

OBCL 2 is just another Rea solo, and far away from the part 1 which was solid to me. It was a
perfect example of an overrated album to me

I really liked the production on 8 diagrams. It was the hooks which I hated.

It wasnt even only Rae either. I remember a lot of Wu's members feeling disillusioned with 8 Diagrams and that RZA had attempted to change the sound of the whole group. Personally I thought the album was okay, but I think Method Man and Ghostface voiced concerns too.

It could be the reason why, you never know.

La Coka was only a partial letdown for me. I had heard  a lot of the tracks before it had dropped and it would be fair to say that only the leaked tracks plus a couple more get played now... it wasnt a bad album though. I think SH was really a BAD album. If you have mad lyricists working with Premo overseeing you should have mindblowing beats backing that shit up. The La Coka at least had dope beats nearly all the way through to back it up and the crew just didn't come through on a few of the tracks.

I think this album will be a good idea. We got to see what Em is like without Dre this year and so now we will see what Rae is like sans RZA. I disagree that he has fallen off as a producer... I think he just throws some different shit in at times and it doesn't always come off. Who wants to hear 36 chambers beats in 2010? I bet most people would get sick of it if he was still making exactly the same old shit.
People give Prem (The best producer of ALL TIME) shit for still making the same beats as he used to and only mixing it up with a fresh banger now and then. You can't win with fans from way back when you are in a new era they are almost never happy with either route you go!

Yeah that coka record was cool but i expected alot...dj lethal should have produced all of it...one of my favorite producers who makes serious bangers ..the dopest traxx were left off...but yeah what ur say bout premo n sh i agree wit...rae was cryin sayin he wanted the 8 diagrams 2 sound non rza...but rza still got it no doubt...rza>>premo
