Checking out the album on their myspace page and all I say is wow. The beats on this are KNOCKIN. Soopa gives DPGC a completely new, fresh, updated sound and they sound re energized. Rage once again BLACKS OUT lyrically with them. Definitely copping this on the 17th.

Oh man for real. The only tracks I even liked on CIA was the ones Soopafly did. I never thought I would say this but Soopa's beats now have waaaay more bass then Daz's. And he has more variety and a updated sound. To me musically he is one of if not the most important DPGC member to that sound for the crew.

sup i just bought the album not too long ago from my best local cd shop and imk in the uk!!! hahaha ive got the album befor uz lot in the us!! my man in the cd shop always get stuff a few days before their release date so if ur frm the uk the place is called cd plus in luton inside the market at the shopping mall the man will get u anything u want.
part from that the cd is straight FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!! the best release they had in years!!!!! and kurupt finally goes in on that album.

the one i got is just the normal one with 17 tracks on it and yes of course its a us import i dont think that theirll be a euro version for it coz its not commercial. ull probably findin big retail in the uk but as import.

fo sho, i got mostly everything. just missing the last 4 dpg cds, because they hard to get over here in germany. i see dem only on amazon.com, and i cant buy shit over there, because they only accept credit card, no paypal or something. thats wack, i want keep on ridin, that was then this is now, public enemiez and the who ride wit us 4 cds. >:(

Listened to the album once... It has some good songs, some not so good songs and one great song. I need to give this more spins to judge it properly.

The songs I like overall, in rough order:
Cheat'N Ass Lover
Spread the Love
Sky's the Limit
Gotta Let You Know
Otha'Side of Town
100 Wayz (funny use of the old school sample)
Dogg Pound Gangstaz (only slightly, though)
All the others are skipable to me.
Best verses are Daz and Kurupt on All You, Kurupt on Another Clip, Dru Down on Cheat'N Ass Lover, Rage on I Don't Care, and Soopa is always dope.
Best song overall imo is Cheat'N Ass Lover. It and Spread the Love are the closest to their old G-funk instrumentation and arrangements. These days, DPG are good at making happy, reflective and laid back type songs. Their "hard" songs are more often than not really wack, though. Those songs are really forced. Been like that for years. No diss, though. I love their softer songs. Probably makes sense considering they're older and likely are more comfortable with the softer songs in real life. It also could be I don't like the new "hard" hip hop sound from the past few years -- it's just wack to me. Period. No bass guitar at all. Wack, inorganic instrumentation. Keep the g-funk alive.
Anyway, I'm happy with the songs I listed :)

I'm getting this album for sure, and hopefully daz realizes to just let Soopafly handle all the production from now on. On And On should have been on there instead of Crazy In The Club, but I'll forgive them. You're right though, it would have matched the album perfectly.
As far as the project goes, it's highly impressive, there's a real nice old school feel on a lot of the tracks and the rest have a nice upgraded fresh sound.
This is one of my favorite DPG projects in a long time!

:D Classic! On the real though that Spread Tha Love tracks is one of the best DPG tracks in a minute. Seriously good production on that one and Daz is not rapping in his high pitched voice.

As far as album goes - I've listen to it and here's my conclusion. It's a really good, solid album but in my opinion they made a mistake by releasing "That Was Then, This Is Now" the year earlier. These 2 albums combined could have provide a classic material from DPG..

Well a majority of That Was Then was 100 Wayz in it's OG form but yeah I agree. I still dig this new album and hopefully better late then never Soopafly continues to play a big part in the production of DPGC albums.

Picked it up today, listened just before.
Pretty good, after only one listen "that was then this is now" has more stand out tracks but i really like it and sonded better as it went on.
It sounds really old school, its cool, some of the beats sound old school as fuck, not old school dpg/g funk so much but old school hip hop in general.
Cool samples and scratches and the album has a good feel to it.
Looking foward to listening to it some more.

I thought that people saying Soopa's prod is tighter than Daz was foolish because you've made this album together. Soopafly co produced over half of it! But check Soopafly's discography, the man does it all by himself! I will not dis Daz cause soopafly told me not to, and i do like Daz's work, but he needs Soopafly to be great, w/o him, he's just good. Soopafly is great and beyond great all by himself. 7. Good Pussy - 1.5/5. Beat is ok. Hook is annoying. Don't like the first verse. Not my cup of tea.
8. Cheatn Ass Lover - 4.5/5. This shit is tight. Kurupt sounds great on it. Dru Down was cool. Great to hear Nate Dogg. We all miss him of course.

Great album! Only disliked two tracks. That means I can fuck with 15 joints 8) That's a lot. Always love DPG but usually they have a few cuts on an album I dislike so for this one to only have two, thats a beautiful thing right there. Normally they have more cuts that sound like "Good Pussy" (that I personally dislike).
This is an album straight made for the fans. Great project 8)

Is Soopafly on any of them? Usually best buy will get the collectors editions of CDs in, but i never saw it.

Bought the digital download of this album from amazon.com, yesterday. Although its labeled "Collector's Edition," it was also the 17 track version. Can't complain though. It was only $5.99 for 17 tracks. Overall, a great album. I would be interested to know what the extra tracks are on the 23 track version, and where it's available.

Nar, after first listen i thought "that was then , this is now" was better and in some ways i still feel that way, but i definately liked it.
I've givin the album a good few listens now, mostly just on head phones or not mega loud, looking foward to hearing in my car an better system, anyhow, first listen i liked it but i most just noticed how old school it sounds and i liked it.
Admittely 2nd and 3rd listen i didnt really like how un dpg/g funk it sounded(some songs do of course) but still liked it, but kinda did feel it lacked something.
But after more listens i think the album is great, it is consistant and just has a really good feel to it.
Its just so old school sounding for the most part and really raw and grimey, lyrical, aggresive, with some nice slower smooth joints fitted in nicely.
Its a dope hip hop album and didnt have many south influenced songs either^^
More Snoop involvement and even Bad Azz and others would've been nice additions but not needed. of course more nate would be good and that dont even sound like nate to me in all honestly(cheatin ass lover)

The beats are bangin for the most part and the lyrics are aiight too. Kurupt still strugglin with his rhymes a bit, but he sounds better than on the last Dogg Pound album. I liked this album way more than "That Was Then, This Is Now". "Smell N Like Brand New Money" is a certified banger and so is "Do U Drank".
