Worldstarhiphop.com: claims I got clowned by them bitches on the Today show when they said I wasn't a gangsta no more. They think I should have cuss them out. That ain't gangsta that's ghetto. I'm slangin' a movie and trying to get my paper not impress these internet roaches. Don't think I keep it gangsta? Fuck wit me and see what do. I don't commit crimes no more, but I always keep it gangsta. It's a state of mine that most people don't understand. "Gangsta" is doing shit your way and not conforming to the world around you. Some of them hoes wouldn't even know the word if I didn't teach it to them back in the 80's. Fuck'em!

Let's be honest. People have been giving Cube flack for this shit for years. There was that white kid on YouTube with the "I'm No Longer Scared of Ice Cube" video and I can remember a radio DJ talking about how Ice Cube going on Ellen's show was like the moment he completetly lost his edge. At this point, Cube's better off just laughing straight to the bank. Might as well go the Dre route and say "I'm not a gangsta but I'm not a punk either." Rappers are like the Rat Pack, they might have connections to the crime element but they aren't a direct part of it. Nobody that is wholesaling coke or killing people is talking about it on a national stage. Cube should have just flipped the script on Kathie Lee and that other lady and asked them what exactly they thought "being a gangsta" was?

They must be getting decent ratings because a lot of their marketing is tied up in them. People are really in love with Tyler Perry, these days, and he has a hand in a lot of them. I don't get it myself but the guy's making money so he must be doing something right.

Common owned Cube on that diss, which is why Cube never responded. Common is highly respected for being consistent in his career and an authentic class & style of Hip Hop that many can't accomplish. Cube, Dre, Snoop, they all rapped Gangsta rap, which was a 90's thing, much like Crunk and Southern electro became the main sellers after that, Common and others like him have pretty much remained the same, so it's hard to pull his chord on anything. He was right about Cube sticking to movies. No need for a 40+ rapper talking about being hard and 'gangsta' topics. If he were to come out with any album it should be a "Cube presents", or collaboration album with Snoop or Dre, or even put in MC Ren on there and call it "N*ggaz With Arthritus" or something lol. Seriously though, a collaboration or soundtrack feature track should be the only things he does now. I respect Cube, but Common has a point. He's at a stage where he's been in many blockbuster movies and has huge influence in that sector to be attempting to show an image that regards him as being a man in his 20's

Common ain't no scrub. He's more of an MC than what Ice Cube is, and is decorated in numerous awards, and recognized through out the Hip Hop community because of it. To my knowledge I can't remember Ice Cube winning any Grammys, although I could be wrong? Ice Cube has an amazing reference of movies in his profile, but Common is rarely recognized in this field despite having appeared in a good handful of blockbuster movies himself - Street Kings, American Gangster etc. I think people are being coastal-biased in this discussion thinking of Common as some small time rapper with a small audience, but has sold more or the same than Ice Cube post 2000. Toe to Toe in a diss battle though Cube wouldn't stand a chance. I love Cube, but I don't really want to hear new music from him in his "gangsta" persona. I'd prefer hearing his archived music, lost tapes collections from his War & Peace days or even earlier. Common though is renowned for delivering soulful & meaningful Hip Hop which compared to Gangsta Rap is non age-restricted, which is why Common can still put out albums when he reaches 40+ years old without the same criticism Cube would receive
