Ladies and gentlemen, "I Am The West" is less than a month away! Ice Cube is getting ready to smash the game again with his new solo album, reasserting his place on the throne of West Coast rap.

The first single and video to "I Rep That West" dropped a few months ago, followed up by the controversial "Drink The Kool-Aid" video, which came out a few weeks back. A third leak, "She Couldn't Make It On Her Own", featuring Ice Cube's sons Doughboy and OMG, was released via Cube's official homepage icecube.com.

Today, dubcnn has received the official album sampler to "I Am The West", on which you can hear most of the songs on the album and get a good impression of what to expect from the full project which drops online and in stores on September 28th.

In all, it just doesn't quite hit the ceiling and ends up falling short on a number of levels. What the hell was the wait for? For this?! No thanks. No DJ Quik beats? How do you count those out over some of this C class stuff. However, I will say that from what I heard, I some of the messages.

The weird part is some of these tracks are saying Fuck The South, It's the West and shit, but then a south track is coming. Even if his Sons aren't from the hood, the West Coast still has Party beats perfect 4 the album. Not everything we produce is straight Gangsta rap, it's just sorta the Majority.

Either way, The Album sounds aight. Sorta reminds me of a Sequel to Laugh Now, Cry Later. a Cross between the West and South.Where as Raw Footage was just plainly South with a few westish joints. I'm a still cope it, but the hype 4 me anyways went down a lot when "Couldn't Make it on her own" was leaked. good listen though. 8)

It sounds like it is hit or miss. A lot of dope songs with potential (I have to hear full version) and a lot of them where I'm like WTF? Definitely not south. Seriously Ice Cube should check this forum for constructive criticism ....

I understand Ice Cube loves and supports his kids, but he should NEVER record with them again. You can see he's trying to stoop to their level and it just doesn't mix.

Not leaking the full versions of "I Rep the West" and "Drink the Kool-Aid" was smart, cuz they still sound fresh

Who is this T.Mix guy? Hworks well with Cube.

"Hood Robbin" is a very well written song. Vintage Cube - tell it like it fuckin is.

"Nothin Like L.A." has a real "To Live and Die in L.A." type vibe.

This sounds like a real solid album but its just missing a few pieces. He should've gutted the songs with his kids, got a funky banger from Quik, did an OG type song with lessay Too Short or Nipsey since he said he's feelin him.

I believe he is from Memphis, but he was the top producer for Suave House for years. Did alot of Eightball & MJG's beats.

Not that it matters where he is from, but at the same time Cube set the standard for this album with the title and how he said the album would be. Not surprising it is not (I am going to cop this anyway so I am not listening to the sampler) considering he has always worked heavily with the South. My thing is more Mike Dean NO Joe, T-Mix and less of some of these other producers

T-Mix produced Ask About Me off the War album too. He's got great music...glad to see him back 8)

If im honest about the sampler, some traks are dope, the south 1s are really pissing me off especially since the aalbum is i am the west, the last trak on the sampler is dope

That's why I never even give y'all the time of day anymore. I see that's it's only White people who do this. Black people are totally different when it comes to discussing music, Hispanics just don't even count IMO, but they are more or less like Black people anyway.

T.Mix produced "Hustler Muzik" by Lil' Wayne by tha way. Just thought I should throw that out there since White People hate everything about Southern Black People except wats excepted by White People in the mainstream or some Blacks in the Underground.

I be seein why White Men back in the day who ran the Congress and such never really listened to Black people except a chosen few besides the blatant racism, it's bcuz when it comes to certain groups of people (for this 1 for HipHop it would be race), they just don't know shit. I ain't saying all of the little black kids know, but they do KNOW who Lil' Wayne is and I'm sure have heard the song "Hustler Muzik" and they probably do know about 8Ball & MJG (most likely their older music). Shit just pisses me off yo lol foreal.

If I was in that camp I woulda told Cube 2 bring out tha WestCoast allstars on this 1. Like that 1 song sounds like Bad Azz on tha hook but it ain't, really he should've put tha REAL Bad Azz on there. It sounds better than Raw Footage & LNCL, his flow alone shits on those 2 albums and when's the last time somebody said something good about Ice Cube's flow lol.

Hood Robbin sounds like it may be the only substantive song :'( I'm in my late 20s. I want to hear rappers rap about real shi*t at this point in my life. Don't get me wrong, I love the old gangsta sh*t classics, but if I wanted to hear that, I'd listen to those classics. I think a lot of the new West sound is just generic and cliched and filled with random rhymes. Some of the songs on here sound like Cube just was rhyming random sentences together. Why does Kurupt get hated on for doing this but Cube doesn't?

Nothin Like L.A. is the OLD West coast sound that I love (G-funk), not the 2000s Westcoast sound that the rest of the songs have, which is kind of generic and boring at this point. It doesn't help that the production doesn't use live instrumentation. It sounds cheap and made on a computer. Having said all of that, there are some other songs that sound good within that new-West framework, such as the Sir Jinx one and Too Westcoast.

Overall, it's what I would expect from Cube at this point in his career. A couple noteworthy songs and a lot of skippers.

Both DPG albums were good. Kurupt's Streetlights wasn't bad too.

I really have to defend this record right here. imo, it's the best album this year so far. you can't call it hyphy anymore, hyphy was a different style, different lyrics. there are maybe a few hyphy kinda cuts on it like "Outta Control" or "Power Up" (both oustanding tracks to me) but in general you can call it bass'd mob music. bump this in the car one time and you'll get rattled out yo seat, it has insane production and a great mixing. plus he brings his best lyrics in years. but, as I said, that's just my opinion.

I didn't listen to the sampler, I don't like so much of spoiling. I've listened to "I rep that west" and "drink the kool-aid" which is one of the best tracks released in 2010 imo. true hip-hop music and I really like the guitar and the drums on it. I'm looking forward to the album and I bet it won't disappoint. I really enjoyed RF and LNCL.

I would be curious to see some of the more "southern" sounding tracks, did they occur before or after he decided not to work with Dre on the album. Almost like last minute fillers to make the deadline for the album, since he would not be working with Dre.

The record that Cube puts out is the record that should be judged. Bonus songs and leftovers are cool and all, but they don't contribute to the quality of an album. Otherwise you may as well create your own version of every album ever released.
