Title: Joe Budden fans are probably as loyal as ICP fans
Post by: OG Hack Wilson on October 24, 2010, 11:23:14 AM
I think we should start a movement to call them "Joe-galo's"

it doesn't necessarily have any negative vibe unless they start wearing facepaint and hollaring "MAGIC NINJA WHAT WHAT" all day

No, it just appears that way.

ICP fans are cult-like insane.

Joe Budden fans just defend Joe & while he's like the Yankees of Hip Hop (love him or hate him with a passion), those who hate on him give him absolutely no break so the fans defending him seem so much more dedicated than they actually are.

If people weren't so ABSURDLY biased towards him, some Joe Budden fans would seem like the casual fan. But he drops a great song, that by another artists would get props, but Joe gets "Damn, this, this & that sucks; song sucks, wow, terrible" & then the defense seems so much more intense to make up for the complete insanity of the haters critiques.

A fairly simple concept.

it's his beat selection to me that hurts his albums

while PLanet COB, Pigface and Block Obama 2 all had great beats....i can't say the same for the Mood Muzics and great escape

Want to hear a REAL simple concept?

If you don't like it, don't listen.

Obviously, by human nature his voice isn't going to change..so you keep listening because...?

If a rapper had an unlistenable voice, but was a great lyricist, I wouldn't have a problem admitted he was good. But then again, I'm not a complete moron either.

his voice and flow have gotten more abrasive over the years.

he sounds like lloyd banks with a cold.

Joe Budden isn't necessarily better than everybody else as a rapper/mc - that's over-exaggerated bullshit..

i think the reason why he's got so many fans, is because most of them are manic-depressive and mentally ill... just like Joey.

Budden is something they can relate to..
and thats not a diss..

he is like a rapper in "human-form"..

funny how ppl complainin about his voice lol..

to me budden is damn underrated!! MM series, halfway house, padded room, escape route, and now mm4 are better than most of the shit most of these west coast rappers got.. he deff got quality over quanity, unlike some of the best mcs in the west who had their golden era back in the 90's but still actin like they shit is plat..  daz, kurupt, cube, snoop, etc.. dont get me wrong cuz i listen to all type of music.. but some ppl just dont wanna listen to budden cuz they hate on him.. just like the outlawz..

peace

Well, they were on MTV for a brief time when they were on a major label, which is where they got a big bulk of their "stable" fanbase, but you're right:  They came up with their own sound, their own gimmick, they grinded the fuck out of shows and stayed attached to their fans in every way possible (using the net is a must for Psychopathic fans).

You can hate their music, but you can't deny them props.

As for Joe Budden, let's look at why his fans are loyal.

Possible reasons:

-He has stayed connected with them on the net

-he has a down to earth personality

-he has a bit of talent and has been consistent with this style and material using that talent  (Altho i see a bit of backlash from the fans in the MM4 thread)

So a mixture of being a good artist and having smart marketing sense.

Which also brings us to why artists lose fans...

Let's look at CAM'RON, who I have stopped checking for aside from Dipset stuff:

-he doesn't keep a really strong online presence, I can't remember the last time I read/watched a full interview he did.  He doesn't use any social networking sites?

-his artistry has slid a bit imo, and altho he's been releasing material with Vado, I never hear any replayable verses from him.

-his music is somewhat disposable (subject content)

Lots of reasons to be "disloyal", which is why you don't see an as strong Cam'ron fan presence as before (even if it was influenced by a Dipset brand come-up)

There are a few easy ways to gain and keep your fanbase, unfortunately alot of rappers don't see that (budget, label influence), or don't care.

I'll actualy admit to liking some ICP music

carnival of carnage and ringmaster had some dope cuts on them, dark lotus's very first release with Marz is a classic too.

but i certainly don't like them enough to be "juggalo status" lol

That one was dope, but I think their second one Black Rain is my personal favorite Psychopathic release.

you make a lot of good points about why budden has such a dedicated fanbase, but i completely disagree on what you say about cams music being disposable and it really shows that certain types of people like certain types of rappers. people who still have this backpacker influenced idea that unless its about something 'deep' its disposable. and thats bullshit. although since budden pretty much only raps about 'deep' shit it explains what type of people enjoy his music and why they think it is in someway not . "disposable" because of its lyrical content.  i really dont think there is any difference, both rappers are true to themselves, budden is supposed to be a deep thinker/depressed dude so he raps like one, cam is all about "we gettin that money nigga, slap a bitch" so he raps like that. one is not more disposable that the other, where do budden fans get this idea from?

and cam has released more music than joe this year, hes reformed dipset, been pushin his new artist vado, how is that now having presence? imo he had a lot of great songs/verses this past year and his last album was underrated. you have made some great points on the budden side, but i think cam was a bad example of an artist who has lost fans just because you feel that way personally.

How else am I supposed to call it?  Cam has been putting out trash verses with Vado for well over a year now.  Vado outshines him on every single song dude.  Are you gonna try to deny that?

I love Cam as much as you, but you gotta admit when he's fallen off.  Dipset has been reformed for how long now?  And we only have 1 song and a couple of remixes.   I think maybe 1 real interview, and a bunch 15 second MTV  on the spot blurbs?  IT'S FUCKIN DIPSET.

These dudes should been all over these media sites with video interviews and dropping mixtape joints.  (They somehow managed to do one over that Kanye song)

Cam's artistry has been shit, and his online presence is only because of Vado.  (I do give Cam big props for budgeting all those Vado videos tho)

The last album I heard Cam featured on in a grip was the Clipse album.  Do we not forget the huge break he took to take care of his mother?  No matter how good of a deed that was, he lost fans from it.

About the disposable music part, I take that back, cuz I can only listen to Budden for so long before I bury him in my library for a month.  And no matter how stupid it seems, I've listened to Dipset for days straight on the ipod with nothing else coming into rotation.

BUT DONT FRONT ON THE REST OF THAT SHIT.

i just think your whole point about him not keeping "a strong online presence" is dumb since hes been releasing mixtapes. what you think of his verses are your own personal opinion. cam doesnt have time to make a million vlogs cause hes out there actually makin music and havin fun and bein part of the rap community. although you could say budden has a stronger online presence, he certainly has a very small one in the rap community as a whole and is very insular. he relies completely on his fans.

100% agree. People with that mindset forget that hip-hop didn't even start out as "deep" music.

Should we start naming the dozens of whack artists "in the beginning" that ppl would now call "mainstream", but because of some "OG" deja vu it is now passable as "real hip-hop"????

It doesn't matter what it started as, cuz shit has to be groomed and evolved through trial and error to become something great.   They get props for starting this shit, but if I had it my way, I woulda started Hip-Hop out on a more intelligent level.

If a rapper like KRS ONE came out in the very beginning of Hip-Hop, would you be agreeing with me now?   What if it started out with ICP type songs?  Would we all argue that ICP's music isn't "disposable" just cuz they started it?

I will always prefer Grandmaster - The Message over Biz Markie - Just a Friend.    You should be able to spot the difference in subject content....

This seems to be a horrible example for whatever you're trying to say. Those songs have two different subject matters but one isn't more "disposable" than the other. One is about living in the ghetto, one is about a girl cheating on a guy with "just a friend" (something I went through recently, so its particularly meaningful for me). One isn't more disposable than the other, since they both talk about real life situations.

LOL.  Every rap song made talks about a "real life situation", unless you know a rapper spitting about dragons and unicorns... You are still too emotional and the song is meaning more to you than it should.  Relisten to that joint in a few months, there is no way that song is getting played around me in seriousness unless I'm at a party.

But, hey, if you think Just a Friend is classic shit aka indisposable, by all means.

Just went to Joe Budden's concert last night in Manhattan & being there is a prime example of why he has such a solid, supporting, dedicated fan base.

He gives so much back. Performed for three hours straight, no breaks; brought out Crooked & Royce, Pharoahe Monch; all rocking the stage.

Pulling people on stage at times; just so dedicated back to the fans that you have to hope the fans give it back.

You don't see many artists so close to their fans like that.
