major props, definitely some good material on this.

however the mixing/mastering over most of it sounds way off, like high pitched and harsh and cackling in my speakers/headphones :-\

would have been nice to hear the quik tune of what there is of it in listenable quality.

the other dre involved track is dope - a real chill, sleazy longue style vibe, probably something focus laid down originally 8)

The Get 'Em Girl and Your Lover didn't make the final cut because they were released long ago. The Busta cut was saved for either The Reformation (God Damn Nigga, It's About Fucking Time) or Caltroit: Metropolis. RBX and Kurupt are on The Preformation snippet.

Sounds really good after one listen, the mixing sounds a bit off, but it's still bangin'. I don't like the other Dre track, it's obviously from 06/07 when Dre must have been taking Em's sleeping pills. Defo think I'll be bumping this album for a long time!

I haven't logged in in dubcc for a while but I had to do this just to give props to Bishop for keeping it 100 and releasing stuff that nobody believed we would hear after he was released from Aftermath. He is definitely an MC that deserves more attention and he's far more talented than a lot of mofos out there with a record deal and an album out. I hope he will be able to release Reformation too.

I'll write my opinion on the album after a couple listens.

Not really feeling much on this, apart from the last track... if that track was in better quality, it would be dope as hell, it's very distorted though

That track has a ton of fire and energy on it, which is what pretty much all the others lack on this album.
There are too many producers copying the Dre thing of just having a kick and an echoey snare/clap for drums and like one other element and that's gotten old fast... and lots of r&bish choruses or like really random choruses

If Bishop has 100% incredible beats for the Reformation, it'll be dope, I hope these are just joints that weren't good enough to make the real thing

Mecha God Spilla mix-tape will drop in Japan very soon. The majority of the songs on that we've heard before, though. There will only be a few new joints... that mix-tape was specifically made for Japan.

Caltroit: Metropolis might be the end of the year. I'm not sure if it'll be before or after the untagged drop of Team America:Fuck Yeah!

The Reformation: God Damn Nigga, It's About Fuckin' Time! should be first quarter of next year.

im most interested in the 2 dre beats and the quik beat...so they are:

rain - fits the song perfect but nothing groundbreaking
change gonna come - very smoooth!!! simple beat from dre but does the job. nothin new goin on here.
preformation- quality is fucked but the beat seems big by quik and kurupt is rippin it....would be dope to hear in good quality

oh and after skimming through, the best tracks are: U aint fresh, change gonna come, get my gun, rain, home.............i thought the rest was really poor.  I would include preformation on the list but the quality is so bad. The beat is monster and it just includes an intro by rbx and a MONSTER verse by kurupt. I dont see how bishop could even follow that verse or how anyone could say kurupt fell off. He straight rips that shit to pieces!

Bishop Lamont is one of my favorite MC's in the game... and he gets great beats all the time... so i'm lovin this. gonna give it a more detailed listen in the car when i drive later...

Considering that a) that song is crazyyy and b) it hasn't leaked yet, they are probably saving it for the Reformation retail release....

plus, the final version has 50 Cent on it, so its probably considered an album cut at this point.

FYI for those who have requests for Bishop for songs or dream collabs (e.g. Do Right mp3, I Dominate or collab with Em...etc). He actually posts on his Twitter and FB pages, for real. And he always tries to please fans, so...

http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/bishoplamont

Just don't send PMs... you need to post directly on his wall and tweet...etc.

I might upload Your Lover feat. Marsha Ambrosius (mp3) tonight or tomorrow.

That is "Angola 3".  I took the best ones and put em all on 1 tape into a story/album.  I like other tracks on the whole project too but those were the 1's that fit Bishop the way we know him and some didn't sound right with it.  And how much can u actually listen to this album without getting too sleepy (it's a slow album in other words).  I added those other two tracks becuz it made sense to and plus it's just a more compact version that's better as far as quality quality is concerned.

Been anticipating the hell outta this, considering all the Reformation cuts, so i'll break it down track by track and give my thoughts (won't include ratings since everyone cries about them):

01) Martin Luther King Intro
Bishop always has the illest intros, and although this is just a sample with some heavy background ambience from Focus, it still gets the job done and I really liked it. Only thing I thought was that it doesn't really fit the theme of the album, as I felt it was much more suited for Nigger Noize or even Pope Mobile.

02) Wanted Man (ft. Chin)
Some experimental shit here from Bishop, who has always liked to experiment. I don't really feel this track too much, but can imagine some others really liking the rock/rap mix. Production and feature were good for what they were, but the mixing was BRUTAL!!! I mean, I know they were trying to make Bishop's voice sound distorted, but the vocals were WAY too low and more distorted than they should have been. Even with headphones I found the lyrics extremely hard to hear.

03) Get My Gun (ft. Kellen The Criminal & T-Wiz)
Now this track was nice! Production was on that Team America/Pope Mobile sound with a great hook and I even liked the features. One of the better tracks on the (street) album. This is exactly what I was expecting from this and perhaps some Aftermath shit here? Sounds like it was made a few years back, but whatever it's a sick track.

04) Affirmative Action (ft. Focus...)
Like any song that samples the shit out of the same 1-2 second sample over and over again, it can get real annoying, but since this is by Focus you know it'll be good, or at least decent. It's a pretty decent song and a good follow up to the last track. Not much else to say about this one, nothing amazing, but not bad at all.

05) I Like Yo Face Bitch
I know Bishop wanted to make a pop/mainstream track here, like some others on this, but this track just sucked. Beat was trash, verses were matching the shitty theme of the song and the hook was also pretty stupid. One of the worst on the tape, maybe the worst Bishop song i've ever heard. Definately not the way to make a pop track.

06) Off The Liquor (ft. Willie B)
Bishop goes into a west coast/pop sounding track here that actually works pretty decently. He's got that lazy flow going pretty hard here, that some people will absolutely hate, but I don't mind it too much. Hook is alright, beat is better than it could have been, but overall it's decent at best. Drums were real cool on this one though, on that Nigger Noize tip.

07) Rain (ft. Liz Rodrigues)
By far the best song up till this point, a Reformation cut from 06/07, and supposedly one of the better tracks at that point if I recall correctly. Beat is your typical 06/07 Dre beat with the dark pianos and heavy bass matching the drums. The rain/storm sound in the background was a sick addition and the hook was very well done. Mixing is also classicly done by Dre, what else would you expect though. But Bishop is by far the highlight of this track. One of his best tracks i've heard in terms of lyrics, where he basically tells of a story when he gets a little fucked up at weird ass party (Did someone say that that story was true? If so, that's pretty fucked up, but I doubt that ending was true. Or maybe I gotta hear it some more times). Either way, one of Bishop's best tracks i've ever heard, and although not something you'd bump in the whip, it's still on a different level.

08) I.W.P. (ft. Indef & The Artist Caps)
Going from Rain to this was pretty hard to do since that track was incredible and this is going the pop/comedy route. Kind of a mix of both. Not nearly as bad as "I Like Yo Face Bitch" though, and it is a lot more listenable, but still didn't like it. Was pretty much a joke song though with Indef and Bishop back on their Team America shit, talking about some ridiculous ways to party, over a darkish whiny beat. For what it was, decent at best.

09) The Homies Girl
So ya, by this point you know this tape isn't going to touch any of his previous shit. This isn't a bad song at all though. A typical Diverse beat (if you know him, on an East Coast sound) with some alright verses from Bishop, speaking of messing with his homies girl. I actually liked this one, but it's not on the level of some of the others i've liked so far.

10) Shout!
Another experimental-type track here, on a bit of a comedy tip as well. Guitars, hand-claps and hard drums make the beat, which turns out better than it should have. I liked this one for what it was, but Bishop's verses were very good here (don't know if there was a hook), talking about living in America and all the good/bad shit that comes with it. Liked this one, but like the last one, wasn't one of my favorites.

11) Home (ft. Dave Green)
This one is up there as one of the better tracks up till this point. Bishop going over his life story which he is, as always, great lyrically when he wants to be. Beat is great as well, on some chill/story-telling shit. The hook was probably the best part, this Dave Green did an amazing job there. Second best track at this point, great track! Can listen to this over and over, album material.

12) Hollow Eyes (ft. Anjulie)
Pretty much everything I just said about the last track can be said about this one. Bishop reflects on his career this time over story-telling, jazz-like beat. I really liked the hook, but Bishop's verses were amazing, telling of all the bullshit of the industry (with some small shots at Aftermath/Interscope). Another great track, can't decide between this one and "Home". Maybe this one since it's longer and has a 3rd verse. Now THIS is what the album should sound like!

13) Anything (ft. Ryu & Mike Anthony)
A pretty good follow up to the last two story-telling tracks. Nothing great here, but a good song nonetheless. It's a mellow beat and a pretty good hook from Mike Ant, with some good verses as well. Not much else to say, a good track, maybe from his Aftermath days?

14) Get Inspired (ft. Bo-Key & Mike Anthony)
The intro track from Reformation if I recall correctly, and was highly regarded, like Rain. Unlike Rain though, this one doesn't captivate me nearly as much. Definately a good chilled-out RnB sounding track though, just not sure about this being "one of the better Reformation tracks". Lyrics are, as usual, great and Bokey/Mike Ant do a very good job here. At this point, the tape is sounding a lot more like a Bishop street album.

15) You Ain't Fresh (ft. Dave NY, Diverse & DJ Gemini)
The long-awaited, controversial Reformation cut is finally dropped! I personally loved that live snippet, but just wish he would have kept with those Game lyrics. I know they weren't the real lyrics (he made them up at the time), but whatever, great track! It sounded better in the snippet (doesn't everything?) but King Karnov does his thing here, as he always does. Bishop rips apart the industry and the current music scene (too bad he has a few of those "types" on here). Hook is cool, and this track serves it's purpose. I just think it should have came out at the time as most people didn't really freak out over it as much this time around. Still, a great Bishop track, one of the best on here, and one of his better tracks overall.

16) We In Here (ft. Chevy Jones)
Beat sounds a bit like some Khalil shit here, but it's pretty good regardless. Seige is a really good new producer, watch out for him. Bishop has a good flow going on, don't care much for the lyrics, and Chevy does a good job for the hook. It's pretty much a club track with a West Coast vibe, not much else to say. I liked it, but not one of the better tracks on this.

17) Sadatay (ft. Shennie)
So Bishop goes back to the mainsteam shit, with an annoying ass repetetive beat (don't expect this shit from Diverse), lazy flow and cheesy lyrics. I like this one better than the shitty "I Like Yo Face Bitch", but that's not saying much. This one wasn't good at all, and i'm being lenient on that. To Bishop's credit though, he was making songs like this for years (Africa was similar, but 100000 times better).

18) Robert King Interlude
An interlude of one of the dudes involved in the Angola 3, speaking on freedom and his beliefs. I'm not sure if this is just a sample or whatever, but it serves it's purpose being here. Too long though, but the beat was defintaely fitting (which I think is by Seige), liked this interlude.

19) Land Of The Free (ft. Robert King)
Hard hitting drums, pianos, smooth bass and a decent samples make the hot Seige beat on this great track. It's nothing to bump in the car (I don't think anything on this is, unlike Bishop's previous shit) but it's a good politically/racially driven track that very well could have been a part of Nigger Noize. Robert King talks on the hook. I like this one, one of the better tracks, probably a real grower.

20) Hood PSA (Word From Young Deon)
Another interlude about similar topics (struggle, freedom, racism, etc). I liked this one as well, with a real ill beat, only complaint being that there was a similar interlude only 1 track before this. Should have spaced them out much more than this, but nothing to really complain about. Beat was the best part about this, maybe Dre or Focus?

21) Change Is Gonna Come (ft. Mike Anthony)
The second Dre track, which nobody knew about. Obviously from the 06/07 time, it's alright for a Dre beat. Some won't like it, but that's understandable. Chimes, soft drums & bass make the beat and Bishop on his '07 vibe as well. Not sure if this was on The Reformation (I know he and Dre did a lot of shit). More political rap here, but it's great and one of Bishop's best lyrical tracks. Mike Ant does a good job as well. This one is definately a grower, gets better everytime. You see, if all these good tracks were here and all the shitty/decent tracks were removed, this would have been just as good as The Confessional.

22) The Preformation (ft. RBX & Kurupt)
The grand finale, and as you can tell by RBX on the intro, it was clearly for the Reformation, but unfinished (WHY??!). The beat is insanity, I didn't expect Quk to come with some shit like this. But the mixing was BRUTAL on this one, and was clearly unfinished. What a waste though, Kurupt absolutely kills it. If mixed right, and completed, this could have been fuckin insane. Way too bad! The mixing is brutal, but at leeast if there was a Bishop verse it could have been better.

Overall, Bishop has still shown that he has it. Even without the Aftermath tracks, his lyrical and story-telling ability is just as good as ever. It's his production/feature/hook selection that's really making the difference, but I guess that's going to happen when you leave the best rap label out there. While close, it's not on the level of The Confessional or Nigger Noize. Many tracks were very good, some were just amazing, and I do believe this could have been just as good as his previous shit if he had selected his production better, not tried to go pop on some of the tracks, and stuck with the producers/features that his best work comes from (which is what two thirds of this is). That being said, it's on par with Pope Mobile, maybe better, and it's still better than most other shit out there, which is typical of Bishop.

This shit is too ill.  Some of the tracks are wack but  I can't tell if he's making fun of southern club tracks or if he's trying really hard at creating one.  It definitely needs better mixing but beyond that Bishop still got it.

I've listened to it almost once over and I've got to say I'm enjoying it a lot.  I'd probably rank it somewhere between The Pope Mobile and The Confessional.

The best track on there is clearly the Dre produced joint with Mark Anthony on the chorus, real smooth and one of the most simple, yet best Dre beats in recent times.  I also really like the Lord Finesse produced cut, the song Land of The Free and the joint with the what sounds like an Arab chanting all over!

My only criticism is that the mixing and mastering could have been a bit better, and there are a few too many 'party' type joints for my liking.  But other than that it's a decent mixtape.  8)

About The Preformation, that was just a snippet. The song is done, just needs to be mastered. It should be on The Reformation (GDNIAFT).

Pretty nice tape! Right off the bat, i agree the mixing could be better and the songs would be a lil more enjoyable but this will do ..for now!

Dope beats, Seige, Focus, Loso, Scoop and Dre (yeh Dre lol) all did well. Tracks with Khalil were what i was anticipating, bit disappointed he didnt appear a couple times.

That Quik snippet was dope too, but man it was hard to listen to. Hope we get to hear the whole thing soon!

I can't hate on free material, and you know Bishop always delivers with his street albums.
I'm a bit dissapointed tho, the tape is pretty inconsistent. Some tracks are incredible and others are a failure.
As always he has great producers behind him, some beats are a let down tho.
The tape has some great highlights so I'm enjoying them to the fullest.
Too bad some of these tracks are in bad quality.
Another thing is that you can see he tried something different, there are almost none rap features on this, that's unlikely for his tapes.

Favorite tracks after a first spin; Wanted Man, Rain, Home, Hollow Eyes, U Ain't Fresh, Land Of The Free, Change Is Gonna Come, The Preformation (when the final version drops and in CDQ :o))

No one is on the same level as Bishop when it comes to releasing street albums / mixtapes.

indeed. I mean seriously, isn't it a pity to have beats produced by the greatest but release them in such shitty quality? doesn't Bishop himself realize that? Hell, I would even pay for a mastered version :(

okay, gave few spins and one thing thats on my mind is "wanted man" track needs a mixing with Bishop's vocals fixed. If he's verse is heard right, shit could be a flamethrower!

and "Home" joint is touching, real smooth story telling by Bishop.

Yeah, it does.  If they're meant to be funny they're great.  If they're meant to be taken seriously, they suck.  It's like Relaspe.  If it was a concept album, it's amazing.  Once Eminem admitted it wasn't, it was ass.  Artist intent does matter.  It's their art and it stands for something.  There's plenty of songs that come out and until the artist speaks on it, it's interpreted differently. Take Drake's Best I Ever Had, most people assumed it was a love song, he said it was a comical song.  Most people felt differently.

Lol, and I remember making fun of you when you said that about Relapse. You are truly a sheep if a song goes from amazing to crap because of one comment the artist makes about it. Did you enjoy the music? What meaning did you find in it? That's whats important, not a rapper leading you by the hand and telling you what to think. Especially for these Bishop Lamont songs since all we have is a couple people speculating. Even if those songs were intended as a parody, they obviously failed at their intent since you can't even tell.

If Soulja Boy came out now and said Crank Dat was intended to be a parody of watered down pop songs, it wouldn't change a damn thing about the song. It would still be just as horrible.

Vice Versa, there are many classics in rock that the artists have later admitted they pretty much made up the lyrics to confuse people. It doesn't change that they are classics. What's important is what the music audience gets out of it and how they react to it.

I listened to the Dre tracks and the Quik track, but all three are disappointing.
"Rain" - not nearly as good as some of the replies suggest.
"Change Is Gonna Come" - Bishop sounds alright over the beat, but it doesn't need a rapper. This should've been a solo song from Mike Ant. His voice is perfect for this beat.
"The Preformation" - once again a disappointing beat from DJ Quik :(

I happen to think they are a parody.  I was purposing the question to see other people's opinion.  Just because I interpret something one way, does not mean I'm right (nor does it mean I'm wrong).

Intent matters and I happen to think it does for most people.  If you found your favorite rapper was actually talking about sucking dick, 5 to 1 you won't like the song or the artist anymore.

As a listener of music I can enjoy it on a personal level which happens to include reflection of the artist intent.  If an artist rights random lyrics with the intent of them being random then good.  They're random so you can make up whatever you want of it.  That doesn't reflect on the situation here.

A great artist is measured beyond influence but intent and skill.

Besides, I don't even think Crank Dat is horrible.  It's a club song and it effectively succeeded it's purpose.  It got people to dance and have fun.

Ultimately, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

I happen to think they are a parody.  I was purposing the question to see other people's opinion.  Just because I interpret something one way, does not mean I'm right (nor does it mean I'm wrong).

What exactly makes you think its a parody? It sounds exactly like that type of song is supposed to sound. A parody of a pop song is supposed to be poking fun of that type of song and should have some indication that its a parody.

Intent matters and I happen to think it does for most people.  If you found your favorite rapper was actually talking about sucking dick, 5 to 1 you won't like the song or the artist anymore.

If the artist intent is different than public perception then obviously the artist failed. If an artist wants me to believe a song is about something, there better be some viable logic to connect it. There's no hint that the pop songs on The Shawshank Redemption are parodies unless you're in shock thinking "oh I can't believe Bishop would make that type of song."

You can't go from thinking a song is amazing to thinking its trash based on intent. This is music, it doesn't work that way. If you didn't sonically enjoy the song, how would finding out its supposed to be a parody change that? At the very most you should go "oh, clever idea but it still sucks as a song."

At the beginning, I was really afraid, the first tracks were not really good. But as the album progresses, the level gets better.

But, i'm not a fan of songs like 'Wanted Man' or 'I like Yo Face Bitch'

After some listening, I like the album, but it could be beter without some tracks.

Finally had the chance to get some weed, relax and give it a proper listen.
This album is dope to me. I dont listen to alot of hip hop mixtapes/free albums. But im sure it's way better than what any other rapper drops for free. Alot of the tracks here easily compete with major albums fillers (like jayz, snoop,50...).
The rock songs...rock !
the reformation leftovers are amazing (rain, you aint fresh). The girl from "the new royales" has an incredible voice and King Karnov is a beast !! I wont even write about that preformation snippet cause i'm speechless. This track is on some next level, for real. How did Quick make this ? This is what detox has to sound like imo. Kurupt is perfect on this.... final version is gonna be even more insane.
I hope that snipet track and "blow your mind" will both be on the reformation.

The poppy/drunk/retarded club tracks had me cracking up. These "i like yo face" and "off the liquor" are suposed to and are very funny imo. These are actually one my favourite tracks, cause of the obvious irony in the lyrics which i find hilarious. Same for "WTP", so stupid but so fun ! Its even funnier coming from bishop, cause he's a very smart dude. He's just having fun with that bullshit rap without mocking anyone particularly.
Actually, what he spits on these tracks is the exact opposite of his real personality. But its not like he's selling out cause he's not acting as if he was serious. His voice sounds totally ironic.
Hollow eyes, rain, you aint fresh are examples of bishop being real, not meaning that he's "faking" on the club tracks.

I dont see where you find the mastering so bad ? Exept for last track, all is "fine" to me. The distorded voice on "wanted man" is well done to me.
Sadatay is the only track that i really disliked cause i have some problems with the beats, really annoying to me.
The sample in focus...'s beat is also a little annoying.
In general, the album is too long i have to say and has no concept. So i dont get the title of it. Its a great compilation of banging tracks anyaway. It shows bishop's versatility which is huge.

any idea who produced the "robert king interlude" ?
does snoop's wife look like a man ? Cause in the track "homies girl", he says the girl was snoop's wife at the end, and then "i aint even know she was a girl". Sounded like a little shot at snoop imo.

The more I listen to 'Get Inspired', the more I think it is one of Bishop's best tracks.  That track is exactly as I envision the album to sound like in terms of production and deep and meaningful lyrics.  If it has tracks like that and 'Change Is Gonna Come' then I'll be pleased.

cool tape, i wish there was less filler and better beats.  that boom bap signature west coast drum is old, every once in a while its cool but it makes ALL of tha songs sound tha same (and that just goes for everybody in general).  i'm still kinda salty (i'm bein' sarcastic) about "U Ain't Fresh" being all NY and all old LA shit like The South & The Mid West ain't have niggaz doin' they thing too (but seriously tho haha!  And not just Outkast and The Geto Boys and UGK either).

at least Bishop Lamont is original tho (all the time) so that's why I fuck wit B.  Rap needs an artist like Bishop, it's like every once in a while when u need some real rap, some type of positive music in your life (even if it's not ur cup of tea; like mines in a way), Bishop Lamont brings you what you need to hear.

maybe next time Bishop can get a bad ass engineer, hook up with King Karnov, Black Milk, Loso, and Niggarachi and come together as a super producer team and have a 12 track album about Politics, Sex, Hey U Idiot Listen, and songs about Moving On.  just no lame shit, bein too cool to be cool is gay.

Finally gave this a listen. Its fucking really good!
Aint really been a fan of Bishop, didnt thuink he stood out on Warren-G's "mid night hour" and didnt care bout Dre sighing him. I liked "grow up" and recently i liked alot of what i heard.
This mix tape is real good.
i was worried bout the sound quality from comments here, gotta say that overal the sound quality is fine, its only really the first and (particulary) last track that it is fucking horrible.
Dam shame bout the quality of that track with kurupt, his verse was great.
Iam definately intrested in this dude now.

Actually, this is NOT authorized by Bishop or Diocese Ent. This is some fan trying to eat off him. The Shawshank Redemption/Angola 3 was meant as a free gift for the fans and should remain so.

But +1 for supporting real Hip Hop, Dre-Day  :)
