i know this is a minority opinion but ;D
grown up funk vibe but banging. a party aint a party till the doc walk in it. catchy track, brilliant lyrics from T.I. for Dre to spit a dope back and forth. smokable :bandit:
-
I agree that this track is brilliant and I really see Dre and Snoop over this track. It's got that Dre vibe to it. But it's the 2001 vibe Matty. It's 2011, we off that ;) :P haha what i mean to say is that that track had a typical Dre sound. And From what He said, we shouldn't be expecting that ''Typical'' sound.

i know there's the whole funk vibe/kool and the gang sample, but dre doing it with his new drum style would make it stand out as a new production. there's loads of scope to make a entirely new sound while keeping with that basic groove. it's just cause im down with that whole kind of vibe more than anything but it is what it is, do what it do. holla.
-
nah, the looped sample becomes repetitive. the other instrumentals that Dre scrapped from Detox, like Imagine, are much better
the drums are cool though.
brilliant lyrics for Dre? that was a joke right?
-
Always thought that was one boring track. Instrumental wise of course, T.I. did his thing.
-
I always liked This Is Detox with T.I and Kobe...Kobe killed it.

I always liked This Is Detox with T.I and Kobe...Kobe killed it.
horrible song.
"Shit Popped Off" was ok but obviously they can do better. TI mirked his verse tho.
"The D.O.C.T.O.R" was my shit, that beat was crazy nice.
"It Could've Been You" was the best leak so far, the "BISD" version was horrible compared to tha demo's that we heard previously. tbh
"I'm Coming Home (?)" was my shit aswell, now that shit could've been the perfect intro 4 Detox.
and tha rest were okay i guess but obviously they didn't make the cut for obvious reasons.

Yea I still play that all the time, could only imagine how good it could have been once Dre re-produced it and actually rapped on it.
I alway thought 'Shit popped off' was just a boring Loop, drums went hard though.

so what are all the real reference songs from detox that leaked?

so what are all the real reference songs from detox that leaked?
People get this so twisted, they start thinkin the Ludacris one was real, the Crooked I one from years ago . . when really, only a small handfull of tracks leaked that were intended/had anything to do with Detox. So this is what I know, I'm not gonna go way back, just a few years (actually I don't think much has really leaked from Detox before 2009):
February, 2009 - Could Have Been You (ft. 50 Cent & R. Kelly) [Produced by DJ Khalil]
February, 2009 - Could Have Been You (ft. 50 Cent, Slim Da Mobster *As Dre* & R. Kelly) [Produced by DJ Khalil]
The first version has a blank spot for Dre's verse, R. Kelly on the hooks and 50 Cent on the second verse. The second has Slim referencing Dre's missing part. It leaked in very early '09 as a Detox song, but it was apparently recorded 2 years prior and shot-down around that time as well. It later appeared on 50 Cent's latest album, without Slim and finished.
February, 2009 - Topless (ft. T.I. *As Dr. Dre*, Nas & Slim Da Mobster *As Dre*) [Produced By DJ Khalil] *That was the rumour, but it sounds like Dre had a lot to do with this*
This track caused a huge buzz, being labeled as Detox's first single. Was originally titled "We Run This", but then changed. It turns out it was one of the many songs that would leak that week that were just recorded when Dre brought in T.I. to work with about a month prior. T.I. does Dre's part and Nas spits a crazy verse. Slim does Dre's part on the hooks as well. Not sure who the background singer is, maybe Sly?
February, 2009 - Shit Popped Off (ft. T.I. *As Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg*) [Produced By Dr. Dre] *Never confirmed, but it was in the commercial, and it has his sound, so it's a good assumption*
The second leaked Detox track in the flurry of leaks, with T.I. once again ghosting Dre's verse & hooks, and what many believed to be Snoop's verse in the second verse. It would only make sense for it to be Snoop though. And while it was also never confirmed, this one was definately produced by Dre.
February, 2009 - I Am Hip Hop (ft. T.I. *As Dr. Dre* & Kobe) [Produced By DJ Khalil]
February, 2009 - This Is Detox (ft. T.I. *As Dr. Dre* & Kobe) [Produced By DJ Khalil]
The same song here, but it leaked as two different versions. The first had T.I. ghosting Dre's verses and Kobe doing the opening, with the hooks left open. The second was the same, but with Kobe & T.I. doing the hooks.
February, 2009 - Coming Back (ft. T.I. *As Dr. Dre*) [Produced By. Dr. Dre] *That's another calculated assumption*
The only track so far that leaked in snippet form. This may be because it was never finished, so the fade-out was put in over the verse. T.I. does Dre's part again here, in the last of the flurry of leaks. A short video surfaced a couple of months later of Slim Da Mobster doing vocals over this beat.
May 2010 - Flashy (Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg) [Produced By Dr. Dre] *Assumed and likely*
This unfinished track with Snoop Dogg is actually the first Detox leak ever to feature Dre actually rapping on it (nobody seemed to realize that at the time, or maybe i'm wrong?). Shortly after a version of only Bishop Lamont came out. Both versions were likely from '07 or late '06.
June, 2010 - Under Pressure (Dr. Dre ft. Jay-Z) [Produced By Dr. Dre] *Never confirmed, but we can all assume*
The track that was supposed to be the second coming, which was getting ridiculously hyped up for over a month finally leaked (very unfinished) to a brutal response. It was such a big deal that Dre had to actually leave a message on the Interscope site speaking of it. Eventually Dre said it was scrapped (along with everything else we've heard so far). A few other versions of this leaked that are presumed to be "home-made" with hooks.
August, 2010 - Turn Me On (Dr. Dre ft. Ester Dean) [Produced By. Dr. Dre] *The girl was never confirmed, same with the beat, but we can assume for the beat*
The second of the 2 leaks at the time, this one was never really confirmed to be by Dre or featuring him, as well as no confirmation on the female singer or male singer, but the chick was rumoured to be Ester Dean. Dre's verse was likely done by Jay-Z. Track was unfinished on every level.
November, 2010 - Kush (Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg & Akon) [Produced By Dr. Dre] *OFFICIALLY RELEASED*
Basically what we all know, it leaked as the unmixed/unfinished version and people liked it so Dre put it out officially in it's finished state. The original beat was done by Khalil, and the background singers are Kobe & Sly. The first Dre single since 2001 and the first long-awaited Detox single (although not the real first single).
Anything NOT on this list is bullshit and just someone submitting their beat/lyrics for Detox. Completely unrelated and unofficial. I hate seeing some bullshit like that Ludacris track come out and people think that's actually Dre-related. And although I liked them, same with those Young Knox tracks that came out a while back. These tracks here are the ONLY Dre-related tracks that had anything to do with Detox.
There were also a bunch of short snippets/commercials with shit labeled as "Detox" in them. Some were of video in Dre's studio with crazy beats playing and Slim rapping over some of them. Then the Beats/HP commercials with the Dre beats in them that have yet to leak.
For every track not produced by Dre, you gotta think they would have had much further production by the doc if/when finished. Also, you gotta keep in mind that a lot of the beats that you hear from Dre since 2000 have been intended for Detox at one point.

u forgot about OG's theme it was one of my favorite leaks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnW62vsgTeE + it sounds like the final version would of had snoop on it 2
-
Shit Popped Off has grown man class while Kush feels like an old man trying to fit in a world he really doesn't belong in. Jay-Z has been the only successful american commercial mc to take a techno track and sound dope on it while completely rapping and that's Ghetto Techno which a lot of people don't like but still shits on all other attempts by mcs.
-

Had nothing to do with Dre, at least the beat. I know Luda submitted those lyrics, but the beat had zero to do with anyone Aftermath related. Some dude on twitter said he made it and had no affiliation with Luda either. There were a lot of tracks like this, but they're just submissions. I can even submit something.
Too many people were being tricked that Dre did a lot of this stuff, when only a handful of the leaked tracks were Aftermath related.
-
Its been confirmed Dre didnt do Shit Popped Off, it was produced by The Buchannans (they did work on jay-z's BLACK ALBUM)
-
Can someone put up links to these songs? :o

to you maybe but not everybody in their 30's (and up) is stuck on some "i need 2 slow down becuz i'm getting older" shit. i'm not tryna go on u but it's a fair assessment 2 mention that. if anything u party harder just not as much *but then again that all dependz on u*. and plz don't come at me with 6 pages of ur life and ur story bullshit, save that shit 4 Elano.

Flashy and Topless were both dope to me, great to have Nas on a track too

It may be another situation of them making the beat, but Dre "producing" the whole thing.
-
Topless is by far the best Detox related track that has surfaced in the past couple years. I would have loved to hear a finished version mixed by Dre, but I don't think that's gonna happen anymore.
-
Flashy and Topless were both dope to me, great to have Nas on a track too
oh come on, that's probably one of Dre's weaker beats in the recent years.

no bullshit, muthafuckas sysed tha shit outta that song. it's probably 1 of tha worst dr. dre records he's ever done if not THE worst. i'm sorry but that shit was mad corny. not that i care, i'm just glad tha nigga's releasin' shit now (maybe for all we know though).
-
Let me get this straight, Khalil did the beat to kush.
what the fuck is dre doing? i'm not dissing him or anything like that, but god damn this shit has taken 10 years to come out, his lyrics are ghost-written for him, and he's got other dudes on the beat?
-
of course outta control remix creams them all. some of the notes are similar to kush, just play the instrumentals back to back and it's a very similar vibe, only way better.

judging by what they came up with vocally for the track, that's where the beat should have stayed, on an ad.
-
Flashy is the worst Dre beat iv ever heard.
Topless was the best from the leaks IMO.
Good post "shopping carts"
-
there is another version unleaked of Shit Popped Off without TI but with Dre and Slim the Mobster
Sir Jinx: the direction I feel it was going in – was that song that was [in] the Dr. Pepper commercial. Now I heard that one a bunch of times…with the rap on it, with Slim Da Mobster on it, with it being produced better, without T.I. on it – I think that’s the [leak, the Dr. Pepper commercial song, that T.I. is on

off course he had a hand in the beat, take the claps for example.

who knows how much dre did to the beat, but it is kinda nice i would agree on the claps, unless they were loaned to khalil. but vocally, the track is kinda a mess. surprising with the whole perfectionist thing and especially on his own single.

the content of it is fine and the beat bumps, just the execution of it seems sloppy. you expect a classic dr. dre beat (new sound or otherwise) and memorable lyrics on his own shit.

The bolded is false. Listen to that second verse again. That's definitely meant for T.I. given the subject manner; you figure if he wrote it for Snoop he would have said "with Shante in the house, when we going out". He refered to Tiny, his long-time gf and now wife in the track.
u forgot about OG's theme it was one of my favorite leaks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnW62vsgTeE + it sounds like the final version would of had snoop on it 2
This has to get a mention again because this is probably the second hottest Detox reference track next to "Shit Popped Off".

After 2001? Family Affair, Break Ya Neck, In Da Club, along those lines. But there's a lot I'm feeling more than that song. Don't Get Carried Away, Legend of the Fall Offs, Imagine, Underground, etc.
-
yeah the beat was amazing, Dre has a good ear for what would sound good on his beats 8)

Topless was the dopest, slimm needs to Jack that track for his album. Turn me on actually sounds dope on my beats headphones, shit was a cool.
Action, ghetto techno is possibly one of jiggas worst tracks ever, uk emcees nail that sort of job, jiggas attempt was horrible

I was speaking strictly on America MC's and out of the variest attempts by those commercially succesfull (not reflection of any song but career success) Jay's was the best. I love it actually. It's a great, morbid drinking song.

Is this Shit Popped Off?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo6iYOswe34
If so, definitely not the best Detox leak.... very sub-par. I also read that this isn't actually Dre?? The Buchanans?
Topless blows this outta the water.

Also the reason I was hopin Bishop was still writing for detox because he wanted Dre to talk about real shit, Eazy's passing and the 2pac disses, not just the party shit but who knows.
And i thought hi-tek produced coming back?

dunno how anyone can be satisfied with shit popped of. such a lame straight forward kool and the gang sample like on some will smith shit. sampling is okay when done right but for such a hyped up, high budget, bigger then life project id expect some damn originality or original instrumentation or whatever. i know almost nothing about producing and i could loop that shit as good as he did.

I really like "popped off" but I still feel like a finished version of "topless" would be better

what makes you think Shit Popped Off wasn't replayed?

the beat is dope on the new version - crystal clear, nice elements to heighten the feel of it. lol @ the dude moaning about it being a sample with 'minimal' changes. if a history of hip hop hits has shown anything it's that a sample used the right way with the right drums and vocals can go a loooong way, when 'produced' right. less is more when it works perfectly, so much so that is often appears like there's nothing to it. those will smith hits are another good example of sampling done right. if it was so easy to craft a hit record this way, everyone would be doing it.
the only bad thing about this new version is that the vocals don't fit the record anywhere as well as the ones in the OG leak. dre with his rushed flow and eminem written lyrics kinda ruins the smooth sound. the back and previous forth t.i. penned had the perfect feel and tone for what's going on musically. for me, that along with other recent choices calls into question dre's 'producing' ability right now. you might think it's being pedantic, but i'd straight up say to him why didn't you use the previous lyrics or use a slower flow, this doesn't sound right  but seeing as though it's only a mixtape throwaway and the beat it so nice, it's no biggie.

yes its for a mixtape, but it was meant for detox at first, so i think it doesnt look good for dre.
besides, what drug test, kush & i need a doctor? those aren't mixtape songs(not produced by dre, but still, he's featured)

the verse was prolly just done in a hurry or recently though? some of the eminem written stuff really sucks :-X
but yeah, dre had sub-par verses on kush and particularly drug test.

the reference track was produced by another producer. who knows. it sounds like it's not. it sounds stiff compared to dre's version.

oh yeah i think you're right, it seems new. eminem's writing for dre from the last few years is mediocre

I think they re-did the vocals and hook to make the track seem as fresh again as possible while giving new life to a beat everyone wanted to hear finished.
Em used to write some real dope shit for Dre so I dunno if he is asking for more technical lyrics or if Em has lost his touch as a ghost writer. Most of Dre's newer material he seems to be messing with the flow and spitting a lot more multis.

Matty, i think u just got too used to the original leak......dre's lyrics and flow are incredible on this one.

yeah I can't see how people are saying its not lyrical, you can still have dope lyrics and flow at the same time(old Em for example)
