we'll see... Paper Trail is a personal classic for me and I know this isn't going to be as good but I'm hoping for some bangers, the first track is nice

More then halfway through this and for me this is probably his worst album. Definitely has that leftover feel to it, lyrically it is sharp at times but the production is definitely weak throughout on this

its a shame that this is going to suck because fuck a mixtape was really REALLY good. t.i. didnt have much time to work on this record so i guess he just rushed it out to keep his name out there.

I'll reserve judgment 'til I listen in a few hours. But everything I've seen about this album screams Atlantic forcing him to put this record out.

Just finished. EASILY his worst album. Excluding a couple tracks here and there, it is either one of 2 things

1. Rushed by the label to put the album out

2. Rushed by the label and added a bunch of leftover tracks and put a album together.

Album does not feel like one, more of a compilation of tracks, most of which sound like they have no bizness on a TI album.

I'm only interested in the first and the last track.

Post by: Blood$ on November 29, 2010, 02:06:05 PM
my thoughts after first listen

01.  Welcome To The World Ft. Kanye West And KiD CuDi - 4/5, good song but it doesn't feel like an opener and it also seems more like a Kanye Feat. T.I. track
02.  How Life Changed Ft. Mitchelle'L And Scarface - 4.5/5, love this, dope beat and hook, Face comes through and kills it
03.  Get Back Up Ft. Chris Brown - 3.5/5, not bad for a single at all, might grow on me
04.  I Can't Help It Ft. Rocko - 4/5, T.I. kills this shit, Rocko wasn't bad either maybe the best I've heard from him
05.  That's All She Wrote Ft. Eminem - 3.5/5, a step up from this duo's last collab, still a bit underwhelming but still a pretty decent cut
06.  No Mercy Ft. The-Dream 4/5, surprisingly dope... but Dream sounds like a chick singing like in many other songs lol
07.  Big Picture - 3/5, kinda fell asleep on this one, forgettable despite the Toomp production, sounds like a throwaway
08.  Strip Ft. Young Dro And Trey Songz - 3/5, typical club/party track which also sounds borderline leftover
09.  Salute - 4/5, T.I.'s lyrics were on point here, beat is aiight
10.  Amazing Ft. Pharrell - 2.5/5, this looked like a hit or miss from the jump, and this right here was a big miss
11.  Everything On Me - 3/5, nice beat which somewhat saves it but a boring track overall, leftover material
12.  Poppin' Bottles Ft. Drake - 3/5, Wiz Khalifa dropped a track the other day with the same beat and his was better but this one is ok for a club track, that's it
13.  Lay Me Down Ft. Rico Love - 3/5, nice beat here but all the club/female tracks are getting played out at this point
14.  Castle Walls Ft. Christina Aguilera - 4/5, solid closer for the album but it doesn't do enough to pick up slack for all the previous weak cuts

so my assumptions about this album were on point, the label threw this shit together with the quickness to make their buck back and to keep T.I.'s name relevant... I bet T.I. won't even be happy with this final product if he didn't already oversee it, too many features that didn't do any justice and the structure of the album is awful

this album is on par with T.I. VS T.I.P., I don't see too many tracks growing on me either since 5-6 tracks are for bitches/the club/radio, 3-4 sound like leftovers, and the rest wasn't anything special except for "How Life Changed", with that being said I give this album a 2.5/5 which I feel is generous

take off tracks 7, 8, 10, 11, 13 and replace them with "I'm Back", "Yeah Ya Know", "Yeah (Feat. Lil' Wayne)", Pledge Allegiance To The Swag (Feat. Rick Ross)", and "Whatcha Sayin' Tip" and you would have an otherwise good album

1. Welcome to the World - 4.25/5. I like it as an intro. Welcome to my world type shit. T.I. has a nice rap pattern on here; unique. CuDi is minimal but cool contribution. Kanye kills it 2. Great No I.D. beat.

2. How Life Changed - 5/5. The song I was looking most forward to & it doesn't disappoint. Beat is fire; signature Lil C sound. T.I.'s 1st verse is dope. Mitchelle'l kills the hook. Always a classic Scarface verse. GREAT to hear a new Face verse. Love this song right here. Early candidate for best album cut.

3. Get Back Up - 3.75/5. T.I.'s lyrics are so dope & what he's saying is so real. This would be 5/5 if it wasn't for a pretty poppy sounding beat/hook. Great content though. Doesn't even sound like a Neptunes beat.

4. I Can't Help It - 4/5. Sounds like a mixtape track but who cares 'cuz it's banging. Most ppl complain mixtape music is better than album music anyways. Great southern music right here either way. T.I.'s verse is FLAMES  :o  Rocko sounds really good on this too. LOL, they changed the "tell the sheriff he can get these fucking charges back, no jail time gotta thank God for that"

5. That's All She Wrote - 4/5. Good track. T.I.'s verse is straight & Eminem kills it as usual. Good track for sure. The beat is a grower. Dr. Luke produced a grower for real.

6. No Mercy - 5/5. Really feeling The-Dream/Tricky beat. Very musical. Sounds like something Kanye would do. The-Dream does sound like a chick but he's a very good singer. Great content displayed on the hook as well. T.I.'s lyrics again are very meaningful & filled with good content. This is dope right here. Love it!

7. Big Picture - 2/5. Toomp! Eyy, beat is forgetful though. Hook is boring. 40 seconds in I can already call it the worse T.I.-Toomp collabo ever. T.I.'s lyrics are decent but can't save it.

8. Strip - 3.25/5. Lil C always has 2 tracks on T.I. albums - 1 hip-hop cut & 1 club cut lol. Meh, this doesn't do much for me. Might bump in a car but I'll never enjoy it THAT much. Trey Songz sounds good on it though. Gotta take it for what it is - a catchy club banger. Dro has a nice verse; good 2 hear Dro on a T.I. album again. Average song.

9. Salute - 3/5. Jake One? Great album placement for him. Pretty tight beat. Hook is ok. T.I.'s raps is straight though. Again, not a special track. Pure mixtape track/album leftover.

10. Amazing - 3.5/5. Catchy ass club banger. It's cheesy but I can't stop singing it lol. I can definitely enjoy this record.

11. Everything On Me - 3.25/5. Good Danja beat. It's a catchy club track but there are too many of these on this album right now. That's 3/4 tracks like this. T.I.'s flow on point but again, not really what I wanna hear right now. 5 straight tracks rated under 4/5 is a bad look.

12. Poppin' Bottles - 3.75/5. This is catchy. I can see this becoming a hit. Wonder if Tip has a video shot to this. This is yet another club track but it's miles better than Big Picture, Strip, Salute & Everythang On Me. I can see this becoming a favorite. I really enjoy this in a mainstream way. Beat is an absolute banger.

13. Lay Me Down - 3.5/5. Catchy beat & hook. This probably bangs in the car & is a grower, but at this point, I'm very disappointed with seeing 7 straight meaningless songs on a 14 track album.

14. Castle Walls - 5/5. Woah, this is amazing. On some "Dead & Gone pt.2" shit but sounds very different than that which is good. This is a pure #1 billboard hit & I predict it will hit that. That HAS to the next single.

T.I.'s worst album to me. I was weary leading up & after reading early feedback, I became more weary. As most of y'all know, T.I. is my favorite artist & I was pleasantly surprised when the album started off so well (tracks 1-6). I began to think maybe I'll really like this album?

But it reallyyyyy loses steam from tracks 7-13 (only 2 of which I thoroughly enjoy - Amazing & Poppin Bottles).

The content starts off so strong (How Life Changed, Get Back Up & No Mercy) and then tracks 7-13 are filled with meaningless content (again, 2 of which I enjoy). That is very unlike T.I. He always has the "singles" but great content to go along with it. This is way 2 filled with mainstream crap; even for a multi platinum artist like T.I. considering he's one of very few mainstream well selling rappers that still gets respect from the streets & some real hip hop fans.

Again, tracks 7-13 SCREAMS this album was thrown together. No way Atlantic was letting 4th quarter go by without a T.I. album, one of, if not there most consistent selling artists.

Disappointed & I can't help but wonder if T.I. feels the same. He's always been very careful with what he puts out there & even admitted he wasn't fond of T.I. vs. T.I.P. I would love to know what he thinks of this.

Best tracks (in order):
Castle Walls
No Mercy
How Life Changed
Welcome to the World
Get Back Up
I Can't Help It
That's All She Wrote

Enjoyable:
Popping Bottles
Amazing

Average:
Strip
Salute
Lay Me Down (seems catchy enough to grow)

Crap:
Big Picture
Everythang On Me

Castle Walls will definitely be a single. That's a no brainer. And trust me, it's #1 on billboard. I'm calling it weeks before it happens & weeks before U start hearing it everywhere. No label exec could be stupid enough to NOT make this a single.

Classic Material: U know I'm as big a T.I. fan as U are. But I call it how i see it. In terms of individual songs, I'm not doubting that tracks 7-13 BANG and are bangers in the whip & club, but there filled with no content. That lowers T.I. to a typical southern artist, something I've always defended him against. But I pin this one on the label.

I will still be copping 1st day to show my support. I will continue bumping tracks from this album & bumping the whole album for a long time & T.I. will come outta jail & recover.

Take it to the bank bruh. T.I. is my favorite artist & I know a hit single of his when I hear it. This is "Dead & Gone", "Live Your Life" & "Whateva U Like" all over again in terms of success.

Tracks 1-7 are dope
8 is ok
9 is dope
10-13 are garbage
track 14 is crazy

the latter part of the album lets it down, only the last track is quality. The first part fo the album is dope though.

Observin the estate through the gate from the outside lookin in, bet you would think I got it made, better look again, I got a butler, got a maid, & a mansion, The belief is that I'm living out a millionaires fantasy, With phantoms & ferrari's in the driveway, but you see it came in exchange of a sane man's sanity, Your vision jaded by the Grammy's on the mantelpiece, Just switch  your camera lenses you would see the agony, Apparantly it's damaging, the man you see before you on the canvas he may seem alright but all the diasadvantages his family encounters overshadows his extravagance, Walk in my shoes, I dare you it'll scare u while it surely seem like the king life seem glamorous as seen through the eyes of untrained amateurs eecause the camera's doesn't see beyond the walls of the smiles Only counts until it falls in the pile

& that is he's my favorite emcee lol. & why anyone who boxes him in with the rest of the southern mainstream crap couldn't be more wrong

9 is dope
10-13 are garbage
track 14 is crazy

the latter part of the album lets it down, only the last track is quality. The first part fo the album is dope though.
8-13 is all fire as well !!!!!! lyrically tip is spittin. and the production is fresh. you got that introspective reflective shit on here, some gangsta shit, shit for the hoes and that str.8 ballin shit on one album. this is a step or 3 above paper trail. let the album soak in.

In saying it is his worst album for me, does not mean I think he has a horrible catalog. Even compared to his first album, this is weaker that's all. A few bangers to be had though.

LOL @ the comments. this album is t.i. at his best. the lyricism was great and the production was top notch. leftovers or mixtape tracks ???? fuck a mixtape was better than most albums out this year and last year and those were throwaways(all quality shit still !!!!!). although all his albums are personal ,this one is his most introspective, diverse, personal album to date. i don't know maybe because the ''pop'' songs on this album compliment it in my opinion. i respect y'all opinion if you ain't diggin' it. to me it's his best one yet and i got all of them.

Still Ain't Really Feeling This Album But Its Got Some Nice Trax.

http://allhiphop.com/stories/news/archive/2010/12/07/22519934.aspx

(AllHipHop News) T.I. penned a letter to his fans from behind bars at the Forrest City, Arkansas, on the day his seventh album No Mercy hit stores.

In an upbeat letter, the Atlanta rapper said that No Mercy is the most "intimate" installment of his life story.

"I must admit it takes a lot to go through as much as I have and still keep the love in your heart and in your art," the imprisoned rapper said. "But at the end of the day, if that's what it takes to produce the music that keeps the world of hip-hop evolving on it's axis....Then even the lowest of the lows of my life was all worth it."

No Mercy features an all-star cast of Hip-Hop artists and includes cameos by Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Young Dro, Drake, Pharrell, Eminem and others.

"Thanks again for your prayers, your time and attention," T.I. said. "And remember....It does'nt [sic] matter how long it'll be before the next time you see me.  What matters is that I'll be a better man before that time comes.  The longer I sit, the smarter I get."

According to T.I., he is hard at work on a new untitled project, which said he planned on unveiling in the coming months.

a very accurate review of this album

T.I.P., comin' live from the V.I.P.? Well, not quite—this time around T.I.P.'s comin' live from the penitentiary, a fact lost only on his most inattentive of listeners. Mr. Harris' legal troubles have kept him in the news, but his seventh album "No Mercy" arrives in a typically busy fourth quarter sandwiched between most of 2010's biggest rap releases including records by Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Nelly, Lloyd Banks, Nicki Minaj, and Ghostface Killah. Not to be outdone or overshadowed, "No Mercy" enlists the talents of literally dozens of hip hop and R&B's respective A-lists, attempting to build upon the double-platinum crossover success of 2008's "Paper Trail."

Hip hop's fascination with embattled, embroiled, and incarcerated figures is no secret, and this year alone yields multiple examples—fans have mourned Lil Wayne's jailing and celebrated his release, watched DMX's various run-ins with the law like a train wreck, and heard speculation that Lil Boosie may be the next member of Louisiana's death row. Examples from years past are similarly abundant—Sadat X's gloomy, jail-bound narratives of "Black October" and X-Raided's albums infamously recorded entirely over the prison phone are further cases of rap listeners' obsession with the criminal. And why not? Such rap sheets imply that these showmen are the rarest of entertainers who live the lives portrayed in their art and are inspired by real-life events in a genre still so contingent upon representing the real. Equally compelling, the soul-searching and contemplation produced by artists and stars' subjection to the abode of the common criminal can make for unusually poignant and personal material.

Unfortunately, "No Mercy" contains no meditations on life behind bars, and glimpses at the no-doubt conflicted character who went from one of the year's most successful movies to Arkansas' state pen in a matter of weeks are few and fleeting. What "No Mercy" offers instead is a garbled array of collaborations aimed straight for the pop charts. T.I.'s stardom is a largely a result of his rare ability to craft anthems, and the sheer swagger and bravado sported on inescapable singles such as "Rubber Band Man," "Bring 'Em Out," "What You Know," and "Live Your Life" endeared him to his Atlanta brethren and Billboard chart-trollers alike. His versatility lends comfort rapping over trap-style southern beats and danceable pop grooves alike, and while he does have an identifiable sound he's proven able to execute crossover hits without sacrificing the charm that made him a star in the first place.

Until now. "No Mercy" is such a manipulated, imitative effort that T.I. manages to add little originality or personality to the cookie-cutter templates his all-star collaborators provide. The opener "Welcome to the World" finds Tip trying to keep up with Kanye and Cudi on a track quite in step with both of the latter's recent albums, marveling at his lavish lifestyle and stardom over a tinny, moody emo-rap track. Yeezy handles most of the vocals on a track that could only have been left over from "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy":

"I would like to welcome you
To the world of (to the world of)
Fast money, fast cars, big diamond rings
Chief chains and the girls of
Fake smiles, broken hearts and if you looking
For your real love
You won't find it here
If you looking for your real love
Well goodnight my dear"

Scarface shows up for the clichéd but well-produced "How Life Changed," a familiar "look how far we've come" track laced with a dramatic, big-bass hitter from Lil C. The Chris Brown-aided single "Get Back Up" is far less successful, a sparse, auto-tuned apology avowing, "I'm only human, y'all" and "you go'n miss me when I'm gone":

"Ay what it is world? Yeah it's me again
Back before you, at your mercy on bended knee again
No running from the truth, as much as we pretend
That it ain't what it is, than it hits CNN
Apologies to my fans and my closest friends (I'm sorry)
For lettin' you down, I won't take you down this road again
Most of you now sayin' whatever, here we go again
Blogs, radio, and television all goin' in
I laugh to keep from cryin' through all of the embarrassment
I gotta say you fuckin' haters is hilarious
How dare you sit right there and act as if you holier than thou
Point your finger now with me lookin' down
Same clown that was twit-pickin' at my wedding
On the same twitter page disrespectin'
Wait a second (hold up)
Never mind my imperfections this is fact, remember that
No mistake's too great to recover and bounce back"

The message is unclear—what begins a hollow deliberation on fame becomes an ambiguous airing out of haters, and it remains unclear for what and to whom T.I. feels he so desperately needs to apologize. If it's his repeated drug use and legal problems then I'm tempted to say he owes himself an apology before anyone else, but in any event the song lacks the inspirational punch the chorus would indicate and Brown adds little to the mix. The same indistinct and conflicted pleas for forgiveness drive the heavy title track, a collaboration with The-Dream, and the stab at reflection on "Big Picture" yields nothing weightier than "these niggas bigger pussies than the bitches I know." A particularly impassioned Eminem slaughters a wholly lifeless T.I. on "That's All She Wrote," which could easily have come from "Recovery."

T.I.'s promises that "No Mercy" would be his most personal album to date ring empty. Even on the most contemplative tracks he can't seem to bring himself to do anything but shun his nameless haters, and the entire second half is composed of forgettable club tracks. The vapid materialistic rhymes of "I Can't Help It" are made even worse by boring production and a particularly bad guest from Rocko, while "Strip" with Trey Songz and Young Dro is mindless and unlikely to even attract listeners to the dance floor. Although the "Whatever You Like" retread "Everything on Me" and the obligatory Drake collabo "Poppin' Bottles" are the harmlessly predictable club tunes their titles suggest, the worst of all is "Amazing," yet another minimalist Pharrell production that's so repetitive and insipid it's borderline intolerable. Jim Jonsin's "Lay Me Down" gives it a run for its money, though, with a completely irritating beat and corny verses that Tip must have written in his sleep.

T.I.'s title as King of the South was largely a result of his majestic command of regal-sounding Southern hip hop that had an undeniably royal quality. The only track to recall the anthems of past efforts is "Salute," co-produced by Jake One and Boi-1da:

"Raise your right hand to your hairline
Stand at attention, hold it there 'til you recognize
Once I return the salutation
Then it's at ease, as you were, no conversation
Well, unless you're sayin' 'What it do, G?'
Decorated five-star general, a true G
Haha, made it fresh up off the battlefield
Rep it for my niggas in the battle still"

The closer "Castle Walls" recruits Christina Aguilera for a final pseudo-personal account of the downsides of stardom.

Utterly forgettable and insubstantial, "No Mercy" is a contrived, sputtering guest-filled affair certain to alienate his longtime fans and disappoint those who jumped aboard for "Paper Trail." T.I. flirtatiously tries on the gamut of the year's chart-topping sounds; at its best it's flat and forced and at its worst it's unlistenable. Tip may be merciless, but based on "No Mercy" he has no shame either, and the lack of identity evident throughout the uninspired tracklist is completely unbefitting of such a household name. Hopefully his latest bid will rehabilitate a superstar who's been blown off course in more ways than one.

a very accurate review of this album

T.I.P., comin' live from the V.I.P.? Well, not quite—this time around T.I.P.'s comin' live from the penitentiary, a fact lost only on his most inattentive of listeners. Mr. Harris' legal troubles have kept him in the news, but his seventh album "No Mercy" arrives in a typically busy fourth quarter sandwiched between most of 2010's biggest rap releases including records by Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Nelly, Lloyd Banks, Nicki Minaj, and Ghostface Killah. The fact that the reviewer speaks ill of "No Mercy" and "How Life Changed" and doesn't praise "Castle Walls" makes me think weird of this review.

But he's right on some accounts with this album not being as natural and some forced songs (big picture, lay me down, etc)

BUT at the very least, those 3 songs deserve much praise.

Basically my biggest problem with the review is if songs like "How Life Changed" was the cliche, hip hop would be in a MUCH better place right now. But this reviewer sees that in a negative light. To not be biased, the problem is songs like "Lay Me Down" is the the real cliche

300,000 in sales after 3 weeks, 70K in the 3rd week of release, better than 99% of artists' 1st week. Not his best but far from a flop lol. Will be Gold in no time & maybe platinum in a few months

some of these tracks have really grown on me that I didn't feel as much before ("Get Back Up", "All She Wrote", "Poppin' Bottles") but overall I still can't fuck with 5 joints on here, if it wasn't for that I would have bought this album

Teflon Don > No Mercy if we talk mainstream albums
