no sorry.
-
don't think so...
-
No idea. Neither of them are out yet.
-
Depends on what you mean. If you're talking about album sales then HELL NO! It's not gonna come close to Detox sales. Now if you're just saying it'll be a better album than Detox, then who knows. I think it will be but I'll hear them both first before I judge.

this way who knows???

that low quality sample session in the bus shits over everything ive heard from detox so far...
watch me get harrased by the dre sack lickers when i say....
rhythmalism >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2001
-
Can somebody post HQ leaks if there are any? I've got G-shit which is prolly just mixtape but anything else would be cool.
-
i think people that actually still remember quik will know about the book of david and will support it. quiks album will probably be better quality and a little bit more sincere where as detox has 12 years of hype so sales wise its gonna blow up

Like what? That whole crew set the bar for classic westcoast albums. Snoop, Dre, 2pac, who else? I mean on the international level, sales level, and quality/review level?

Real talk: you are privileged to have listened to BOTH finished masters of Quik & Dre to be in a position to say such a thing? (& Be assured I'd ask you the exact same question if you said Detox was superior.)
Me, I love both Quik & Dre, each in his own way is a genius & very different from the other. My hope & my expectation?
Both "Detox" & "The Book" will crush EVERYTHING NON WEST COAST! How bout dat? Support West Coast unity instead of opposing West Coast against West Coast!
& Let the Best Coast above the rest for the next few years!

I agree with you on support west but i just don't feel DJ Quik gets the props he deserves. My opinion, The Book Of David will better better in terms of good quality music. Detox is all hype to me. I don't see the big buzz around it other than its a "Dr Dre" album and its been twelve years since 2001. When you break down Dr Dre's record history, He has a co-procucer or he just tweaks it and makes it sound like a Dre record and gets praised for all the Credit. Thats just Producing Records! Now what about the rapping portion of Dre. 99.9% of songs are all ghost written for him and he just raps the next guys rhymes. He Don't Even write his own shit. He ripped off Sam Sneed, J-Flexx, Mel Man and Hit Man
In Other words, he is overrated for what he actually does.
I Do give Dr Dre credit for having a good ear for music. He knows how to make records sound good, really good!. Ha has a reputation for making hit records and thats just what we've come to expect from him so thats what expect from detox. Be advise tho, it will be co-produced by somebody else and written by some else.

Everyone's got their own opinion, this is a fucking forum ppl. Me personally Id much rather listen to The Book Of Da vid than Detox. That I Need A Doctor track makes me nauseous.
Quik has continuously proven to be on a whole nother level.

of course it will crush. At least when it comes to music. But who cares about record sales? I wonder why music fans care about record sales while it's music that matters. Leave record sales to accountants.

Fact is, Quik is a tested musician, & multi-instruments, first & foremost. He PLAYS the music he FEELS the music. Then he writes, both music & lyrics. Both for himself & for others. Then he goes on stage or in the booth to play & rap/ sing what he writes. Then he produces & mixes the music. & He doesn't take 10 years to do it. This is why I think he's more "instinctual" with his music.
I feel Terrace Martin is very much of a younger Quik in this instance. & Both should keep on working together.
Dre, he'd be more "intellectual", the never satisfied perfectionist who knows there is no such thing as perfection, but he still aims for the impossible, for perfection, which is why he spends years on things he can suddenly give up in a matter of seconds & start from scratch!
They SO different, but they too make a great duo in the studio! & I feel Dre respects Quik as a equal (& I don't think he feels that way bout many people) so much so that Quik might be one in a million to actually tell Dre different & Dre would listen to Quik's opinion. That, not even the Snoops, 50s, or Eminems, can!
But it's just a guess, nothing I can prove with facts.

i grew up on dre and quik music...but we know who the better producer is hands down....remember truth hurts addicted....dre took credit from that man....like he took daz credit.....thats bullshit!!!!
-
i have heard at least 4 tracks on Book of David that are certified West Coast Bangers....the only banging tracks i heard from Detox iare the TI reference tracks and Who's Your Daddy Bitch...none of which will be on Detox...so right now my money is on Quik...
-

How are those examples of Dre getting more credit than he deserves exactly?
-

bullshit:
02. Addictive (feat. Rakim)
Produced by DJ Quik
Bass: Eric Coomes
Mixed by Dr.Dre
Contains a sample from "Do it" Written by Billy Nichols
he didn't take credit from Daz either: Daz just brought ideas & samples to the table.
-
real talk.....any thoughts?...comments?....debates?
Doggumentary'll leave them both in the dust.
-
they must have switched it up with truth hurts addicted...cause i could have sworn dre was trying to claim that beat

lol... so from what you've said it looks like Dre used Daz ideas.... for me it's nothing but taking credit indeed...
Imagine you're the guy who has ideas and samples...you're showing them to your friend who takes them and make $$$ of them while nobody gives a fuck about you... lol
-
yeah but daz been taking credit from soopafly and all the deathrow musicians for years too...daz got some drum macheine skills and can pound out a baseline here or there but he aint nice on the keyboards and shit like that. his beats are garbage if mike dean, shorty b, sean thomas or soopafly aint involved it sounds liek some real basic type of shit...i cant believe ppl still think daz is this mastermind when not ONE of his beats hes done in the past ten or more years has resembled anything close to anything he "produced" on dogg food AEOM or raw.

how can you tell? we don't know what ideas were used for the final product.
besides, bringing samples to someone's attention is not producing.
might as well credit the food manufacturing companies who made the food that was used during the days of the recording sessions
-
daz did some stuff for "doggystyle".
"aint no fun", serial kila" etc etc
the blueprint-music is Daz, but Dre produced the records
sane thing wit "rat-a-tat"
-
DJ Quik wins the competition! Hopefully dre will never produce anything after his shitty detox album! LOL @ dre is the quincy jones of rap..

this thread is mundane

daz's contribution was minimal suge is the one who built daz up to be this super producer, perhaps he knew one day dre would be outski and he needed someone to fall back on.
he loved 2c dre suffer
-
One day I will tell my kids Detox was shit compared to David's Book. That I promise.
-
its like Petey said, if u compare Daz production-C.V. of today, wit the Daz/soopafly stuff from the 90's - that leaves alot of question-marks.. ???
the reason/fruityloops-generation sucks

Quik can't expect to be taken seriously as a producer when all he does is basically remake Safe & Sound on every new album.

what about Trauma and Under The Influence?
-
He used the same instruments, same arrangements, same drum patterns on those albums that he's always used.

it's a lie. To name a few Trouble, Ev'ryday, Sex Crymee, Fandango, Ladies & Thugs, Catch 22, California wouldn't fit to his previous albums. Of course drum patterns may be similar in some ways but what you're expecting from rap music? Bossa Nova rhythm?
And yes he uses same instruments in many songs but it's due to the fact he was always using a large spectrum of instruments... so ask the whole human race why they haven't invite new instruments for Quik...
Fo real... Only deaf man could say Trauma and UTI are remakes of Safe+Sound... damn... even Rhythm-al-ism is different album... yes...same style... Quik's style... copy of S+S? Never
