Smooth Sh*t.. Mix is Incredible! 8)

its actually the ideal kind of track that snoop would sound great over with the laid back g-funk vibe, but for some reason snoop don't seem to be getting at Quik for beats, just mixing...

Yeah I am still holding out hope they do a whole album together or let Quik do the majority of it. Loving this track. I can already tell his album will be the soundtrack of the summer for me. I would BBQ to it now but it's cold as fuck outside LMAO!
-
both snoop and dre are caught up trying to keep up with the younger generation. they do not and will not cater to there core fanbase as they figure you guys are predisposed to tune in and listen anyways.
they are about expanding there brand and the only way to do that is to get new fans. you wont get new fans with "old" music

The truth right there.

Kush just hurts my ears compared to this, a really messy sounding track.
Will be interesting to see what sort of numbers Quik does with this new LP. Not that it matters, but I think it might do pretty reasonably and better than a lot of low-key releases. He got a lot of followers internationally who really respect the craft.
-
I like this track, but it sounds old. Dollarz and Sense era-ish.
-
The genius is back
-
this is dope! exactly what i expect from Quik 8)

This ain't 95 no more. And this song sounds exactly like something from that era, sounds dated as fuck. Quik has never really been able to evolve as a producer. Of course this forum loves him for that reason.
-
Very well made jam. I expected this from Quik.
Anyone confirm if G-one is involved on this one? I'm almost positive he had something to do with this monster of a beat.

of course quik has evolved as a producer, this is a silly statement. nearly of all of his albums have a different type of sound or sonic quality to them. and listen to tracks like fandango, hey playa or hydromatic. these are highly experimental pieces compared to his earlier work. the only thing that stays the same is the basic groove or 'funk' to his music.
-
dj quik doesnt fail
-
very niiice indeed.... i say let quik produce an entire snoop album... u know im picking up this quik album day1 like i did all the rest... that shit is bumpin'!

All the people talking about Quik needs to produce an album for Snoop seem to be forgetting he did "Ego Trippin". You know that record that pretty much everybody but me and three other people on here fucking HATED.

that was Quik and teddy riley....shoulda been Quik and G-1

it wasn't really quik production at all...although his mixing/tweaking role makes a huge difference on the finished sound quality. he only solo produced one track and that was the best track on the entire cd.

Exactly! To me Quik's sound on albums is always like a continuation from the previous album, he gives you something familiar but pushes himself to give you a little something new; I've alway heard progress in his production. The thing that sounds familiar is that still keeps using his signature funky grooves, synths and percussion sounds that we all love and expect from Quik, but with every album he puts a slight twist on it to make it fresh but still him. But a lot of great producers have a signature sound that you can't mistake, for example Battlecat, Dj Premier, Jermain Dupri, Neptunes, etc. whether you like them or not they all have a signature sound to their production. His sound isn't dated, his sound is HIM (and he's been in the game 20+ years now), if someone thinks Quik's sound is tired then maybe they're just tired of listening to Quik and need to move on. Trauma is a dope album, sonically on another level than all his other albums, he still gives us some of that classic Quik on songs like Pacific Coast and Jet Set with a little of that g-funk but then most of the other tracks sound new, different and updated but still contain some classic Quik elements in them. I think it's actually harder to keep sounding fresh and new without losing your sound (your identity) than it is to just say f*ck it and totally change your whole sound and try and go for what is trendy at the moment, and that's why I think Quik is the best, he always gives us something new and fresh but still manages to make it sound like something classic that has always been there.
So back to this new track "Luv Of My Life", it's banging, another great Quik song. I hope the album's sound is consistent with tracks like this one here and "Nobody" with Suga Free and that "G-Shit" track. I hope he stays away from too much experimental tracks like the second half of Blaqout (most of the first half was on point but the second half was trying to do way too much). Keep doing you Quik, keep your unique sound intact (can't nobody f*ck with it), if we had more artist like you rap music as a whole would still be dope and sounding fresh.

Nice. But i feel like the hook could have been better.
Maybe Quik's trying to get the ear of todays young music fan..

I never really liked Quiks style of delivery and raps but this beat is smooth, definitely gonna give this album a spin when it drops
-
This Shit Knockin'!!!! I came to a conclusion that DJ Quik is the most TALENTED hip hop musician period. He can do any type of record with some sounds that make sense. If you don't agree then you don't see the type of craft this legend puts in his music. On top of that his flow is nice and he never tries to impress no one but music fans. All your producers making those whack ass beats, go buy every DJ Quik album, listen to it and then retire because the next production you make will never bang like Quik's. "And can you make it a Corona with limon y sal, so all my little hispanic homies can pound, pound." Gracias Quik
-
Beat is nice, smooth shit. Hook is so-so. Looking forward to hearing the album!

genius.... :pimp:

This ain't 95 no more. And this song sounds exactly like something from that era, sounds dated as fuck. Quik has never really been able to evolve as a producer. Of course this forum loves him for that reason.
Firstly, saying Quik has never been able to evolve as a producer is a lie stated by an ignorant who has never been able to follow Quik's music carefully.
Secondly, ask yourself a question how big Quik's chances are to sell this album in serious amounts. For real i think this album is going to flop when it comes to record sales. The industry is different these days it's really hard to sell albums plus Quik isn't on top anymore, and there's no serious marketing behind him.
So i guess he knows it's better to stick to what he loves and what his true fans are expecting from him. If he ain't going to sell why should he try to stick to recent radio standards?
The music industry is a bitch. It's not like you're going to make a smashing record and radio and tv is going to play it. If you're not major label artist with influential managment and millions of dollars behind you then forget about regular radio airplay, charts and things like that. LABELS PAY RADIO AND TV TO PLAY THEIR ARTISTS SONGS, THEY PAY MAGAZINES TO WRITE ABOUT THEIR ARTISTS and the list goes on.
On the other hand you have Dre with all these things behind him needed to make your album sales good. He can record anything and his album won't flop. But in Dre's case it's all about as much money as possible instead of beeing true to his fans. I guess it's Jimmy's influence.. can't you see what Interscope have done with Em? Can't you see Dre is next in line? Forget about Detox if you don't like Kush or I Need A Doctor. Detox is not going to be anything different than these songs because Interscope is all about the record sales... but fuck it... it's a stroy for another topic.
-
great ass song!I see it as vintage Quik funk but with a slightly newer twist, a little bit of that Blaqkout crisp
-
I really like this.
Of course it sounds a little old school - but why is that a bad thing? It's a sound that Quik helped to pioneer, one that a loyal, if small, fanbase still wants to hear and, most importantly, a sound he still does better than anyone else.
As I just posted on Facebook, this track sounds like summer in the middle of winter. Bring on the album.

First of all never assume something about somebody who you don't know. There was a time when all i listened to was dj quik. The reason i stopped was because every album started to sound the same. This new song could've been on Safe and Sound. I guess there's one major difference between me and most quik fans here. They're still pining for that g funk sound, i'm not. From 92 to 97 all you heard on the radio was g funk. Those 5 years was enough for me. I was ready for something different from west coast artists. Obviously i'm in the minority here.
You went on some wild tangent about sales and Dre and Interscope. I never said anything about that so i don't know what that's about. One thing i will say though, Quik is not an independent artist. His albums are distributed by Fontana distribution which is owned by Universal.
-
wow, amazong sound! this is exactly what I wanna hear, some shit to vibe to. Quik proved that he is at his best when he keeps it funky.
and lol at that sorry fool saying this sounds dated. lmao where do you live? for years. people on here were more or less disappointed by quik's newer tracks because sometimes his music sounded pointless or half-finished. and people was always wishing he would dro some of that good old smooth shit. and he comes back with 100% west coast sound and there are still people complaining? like wtf?
george clinton won't do techno just because it's not the 70's no more ::)

Only fear is that songs like this will scare Dre back into the lab...

First of all always try to read posts carefully. I've never said you haven't listened to dj quik. I've said you haven't listened to him carefully which came to my mind after reading your opinion. His solo albums were always similar but his side projects show his abilties to update or change his sound (f.e. Blaqkout, The Fixers".
Dre comparision was off topic but i just wanted to say what's was on my mind.
And I haven't said Quik is independent artis. Quik's album has a small budget in comparision to Dre's one or any other top major artist. you can't argue with that. What is more Fontanta was launched to deal with distribution of indepnedent record labels and artists and that says much about diffirences between Quik's and Dre's label situation.

this sounds like pretty standard fare for quik, smooth shit, nothing mind-blowing 8)

But guys... This is not CDQ. It's a good sounding mp3 just to hear the song but it's far from pure CDQ.
-
Nice song but not I don't see it as a single, the hook is boring and who the fuck is Gift Reynolds? Anyway nice smooth beat.

10/10
great track!
Hope Quik keeps it mellow like this...

i don't think so. i'm sure Quik even submitted stuff to Dre in the past
-
Honestly, I think the beat AND the lyrics on this are dope. Nothing incredible but it fits the beat well, plus I think the hook is good. Might be alone on that one.
Can't stop playing this shit! 8)
-
Now thats the shit the westcoast needs. I mean if Snoop would produce his whole album by Quik, Battlecat and DJ Pooh, i swear it would be a classic album!
We need some alternatives to today's garbage music.
-
Quik is and will always be the shit!!! What the fuck do people mean his production hasn't evolved and that it's not different. Fuck different, all of you saying this are probably in love with whack ass Drake, Eminems, and producers like Boi 1da and Drumma Boy. Come on just cause it's 2011 doens't mean you gotta go garbage like all this new generation. I'm only 25 and I really never look forward to all this funny rap nowadays because it's boring and the beats look like a bum did it. So shit the fuck up change is good but not this type of change.
Quik>Your Favorite Producer<Quik
-
This song is dope. Thanks, David 8) Thanks, Matty ;)
People saying this sounds like mid-90s Quik -- shiii, that's the reason I like it, lol. That's a compliment to say that, imo.
Quik > Dre / Book Of David > Detox 8)
As usual, Mietek is right. :)

This ain't 95 no more. And this song sounds exactly like something from that era, sounds dated as fuck. Quik has never really been able to evolve as a producer. Of course this forum loves him for that reason.
of course quik has evolved as a producer, this is a silly statement. nearly of all of his albums have a different type of sound or sonic quality to them. and listen to tracks like fandango, hey playa or hydromatic. these are highly experimental pieces compared to his earlier work. the only thing that stays the same is the basic groove or 'funk' to his music.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Good post. 8)
anyone who claims Quik hasn't evolved or anything stupid like that obviously has no ear for music at all. you wanna hear quik do wack ass 808 beats now like everybody else? he did a few of those and they are easily among the worst songs he's ever done (ie: "whatcha wan do"). he's kept his signature style while doing something extremely fresh on all his recent albums ("Ev'ryday", "Ladies & Thugs", "9x Outta 10")
like i said in the other thread...you fucks are never happy. a bunch of spoiled fuckers that have had your musical tastes catered too by the internet for far too long.
yall are mad at dre for not staying the same and mad at quik for not switching it up...nothings good enough for yall.
word!

what does it matter if a quik beat sounds like a dre beat? I'd rather have it the other way around.

so what was the point of your argument? lol

so what was the point of your argument? lol
what argument? i was pointing out it had 'dre-like' production in the hope it would make more people check it. nothing to do with me liking it more/less for that reason.

Is it? Sounds fuller to me. I don't think it's a re-encode, perhaps just a better webrip then?
Where did the Matty find it originally?

recorded from a stream...all other sites were sent a 128kbps later that day so that's very likely the source for the recording too. it may only sound better because the the leaked mp3 is louder and my resample turned it down a bit.
-
Ok. Didn't sound as fuzzy as a 128 to me. :D

Ok. Didn't sound as fuzzy as a 128 to me. :D
yeah shit was too loud made it sound boomy. my soundcard is decent too, so resampling through it and the volume reduction made it sound better i think. not too sure, but real cdq before long anyway.

Clllllll ASSSSSIIICCCCCCC Q U I K hope G-1 is all over this album!!!!!!!

This shit's been on a steady repeat every morning. Quik got his classic flow back..
-
This song is a classic. I've already bumped it 30 times. Beat, hook, verses, everything is on point. This is some real shit.
I'mma tell y'all the truth once again:
People who like Quik's music and identify with the shit he's talking about:
1. People who are getting money.
2. People who are successful in their lives, who want to be the best at what they do.
3. People who are getting pussy.
4. People who floss with style and sophistication like Quik does. Quik ain't a "bling bling" nigga. He doesn't just get money and wear it on his neck. That's for punk niggas. Quik got money and he knows what to do with it.
5. People who have taste.
People who don't like Quik's music:
1. Broke Niggaz.
2. Marks, bustas, tricks, haters, jealous niggas, niggas eating TV dinners. People with no career or talent.
3. People with no self esteem, who get no love.
4. People who never flossed forreal, never left the hood, don't even know half the shit Quik talks about.
5. People who need songs with shitty, computerized, repetitive beats.

"Real niggas can see the future" is sig worthy.
-
so is this
It makes him a smart businessman. Snoop and ice cube are irrelevant in today's rap game. Why would dre want to be associated with these too losers? Dre threw snoop a bone and put him on Kush and it flopped. I guarantee you there will be no more Dre and Snoop callabos. Snoop is not somebody you can make money with anymore. That seal in your picture has more game than Snoop at this point.
sounds like a bunch of niggas who wish they knew wtf they was talking about lol
-
Like i already said, that statement is a fact. It's not dabatable.
-
lmao get your spelling/grammar game up then holler at me about the semantics of business in music.
where you from noobcake? i smell eurotrash.
-
Is that really what you're gonna base your argument on, my spelling?
-
no i just like to get a feel for who im arguing with...im not going to be debating the relevance of a pop music icon with someone who has the mental capacity of a goldfish.
-
Insulting me personally is not gonna win an argument for you. In fact when a poster starts getting personal it's always a sign that he/she has lost.
-
okay sport...you go ahead and think what you want while the rest of us just write you off as an internet rap nerd.
your just another heartbroken fan who is mad dre didnt release nuthin but a g thang part twelve and a half to appease his core audience...i just find it funny that you act like you got all this insight to how the business works when i got a feeling your knowledge of rap dont extend much further then the blogosphere/rap forums.
id go as far as to say snoops done a better job through the years at staying relevant then your mancrush dre has and im not even on snoops music like that.
-
I never said anything about Dre in this thread. Moreover i've said in other threads that i'm generally not a fan of Dre's work. I think somebody is paranoid in here.
-
Anybody find out who was involved in making this track. G One had to have had some work on this shit, it's just real hard a track :o 8)
