Title: State Of The DUB-CC
Post by: Don Seer on March 16, 2011, 04:30:35 AM
Hey look.. its me.. online. posting.. wtf!?  ???

The forum will be moving at some point in the near-ish future to  http://www.dubcnn.com/forum/

The forum will still be called West Coast Connection / DUBCC but it will be.. The West Coast Connection (at DUBCNN)..

So just a bit of joining up really..

While I'm going to spending sometime working the move and sorting it all out.. What changes do we think could be made at the same time?

One thing i've been thinking about is a dedicated forum for 'classic' west coast era stuff.. there are complaints/concerns that too much 'new' west stuff gets lost from the main section, as well as discussions on news updates.. so I figured since the golden era was roughly 15 years ago there should be a place for people appreciating the classics/living in the past. a dedicated death row/ruthless type sub forum.

Not a bad idea.

Cheers.. times at a premium these days.. gearing up to buy a house with my g/f, so i'mma have the space and opportunity to sort out all the CDs, Vinyl and mags that i've got lying around. Been living between two locations for over 3 years now so i've kinda been in a transient mode.

Also, not much of the 'new' west appeals to me, and apart from leaks and cdq releases of stuff like the lbc crew thing nothing much has turned me on really.. (p.s. the new Dre song is booooring)

Seer, blast from the past, it's your homie/rival Infinite!

...anyway, to answer your question, yeah I think it's a great idea to have a section on the forum dedicated to the classic West Coast hip-hop.  I still make a lot of threads and posts about Pac and other legends and posts about rare info/songs from the golden era... sometimes I get responses in those threads with people dissing saying "Who cares.. Pac's dead" or something like that.  So it would be cool if it was known fact that a section of the forum was dedicated to the golden era in West Coast hip-hop

...by the way, I'm still waiting for the day you will merge my new account with my old Infinite59 account

Glad there doesn't seem to be resistance to the idea...

So how should be bracket what goes in there? Pre-millenium? Strictly death row/ruthless?

Where does post snoop row death row fit in? early aftermath?

Just not quite sure where to draw the line... maybe the '2001' album should be 'the line' ?

I think it has to be later than that. I still consider 2003 sill a classic time for the West. D.O.C.'s Deuce, young Roscoes Philaphornia, Bad Azz's album, the 2nd Hittman promo, Welcome to tha Chuuch vol 1 & 2, Nate Dogg's elektra album, Makaveli & Dillinger album, Kurupts against the Grain from DPG + The DPG Unreleased Collection....

I think that the section for the "Old West" should be about rappers who had their careers in the game just before Snoop released Tha Last Meal, since that's what I consider the last of the old west (coarse that's up for debate). The section could not only be for everyone to talk about their favorite songs, albums and artists from back in the day but also for it to contain info on the latest things those OG's are up to. Basicly even discussions on new projects by OG's go in there (like those WideAwake releases, Snoop's new album, Detox, WC's new album etc...)
As for the New West section I'd say only discuss artists who came on the scene post-Sly Boogy or E-White in there. The O.G.'s discussions stay in their section and the B.G.'s stay in theirs.

Simply put, the "Old West section" is home to all discussions on Death Row artists/affiliate discussions (which is like the only thing most people on here discuss) and the "New West section" is home to discussions on the Game, Jay Rock, Young Maylay, Lil B, etc....

well.. really.. the only classic era is before pac's death?  bit of a generalisation I know, but shit fell off til 2001 came out after that.

probably the last major album to fall into the 'old' thjing would be top dogg?

I figured using 2001 as a dividing line also fits in with the fact that the OG members of the forum here met on the dre2001 forum in 1999 (remmeber 2001 came out in nov 1999) ... so using the 2001 album (or the turn of the millenium) makes sense. it'd put things like 'thy kingdom come' as being old.. but 2001 and beyond as being 'new'... so 2001 itself, DOCs album,

that does seem a bit early to draw the line  though.....

So... what about 2005? .. with Game's first album / Guerilla black not falling under the 'old' banner?
Title: Re: State Of The DUB-CC

Do you HAVE to do this?

I dont see any reason why?
Title: Re: State Of The DUB-CC
Post by: Don Seer on March 16, 2011, 05:51:42 AM

The reason has been outlined, and backed up.

It means that NEW music and discussion of current events will rule in the main section, the 'new' section will take everything pre 'The Documentary'.. meaning people can rave above The Chronic, Doggstyle, 2Pac, Death Row, Ruthless. People still discover this music, and discussion of it should be encouraged.

Bit of a gray area are the releases of old material like the LBC Crew stuff.. but i figure its part of history and isn't going to represnet the current west.

Can I suggest something regarding the 'off topic' areas of the site. When you click 'Show unread posts since last visit' can the off 'Socialistic' areas not show up in those results? Is that possible to code?

it should be split becuz 1st it's the professional way to do things and 2nd it's been past time.  me personally i will always love all of the music I grew up on [The Ruthless Family Tree and so on] but I don't really care all of the time about it all.  But like what if I wanna go back and see from back in tha dayz that maybe I didn't see (like some of this Ruthless Records memorabilia n shit) but I have 2 look back crazy far and hard (which i never do) just to find it, that shit would blow.

and then i wanna know what's going on with the new shit.

Do not do that, it may kill the forum. Everything is fine as it is.

As there is not much noise coming from the West these days, it makes no sense to divide an active WC forum.

What up Seer? Glad to see you post again.

As far as your idea to separate, I think it's a good call, but will the traffic stay up enough? I mean really, the only relevant west coast rappers have been in the game for 20 years. The main reason I check the west coast section is for leaks of unreleased songs, and new releases from the OGs.

Also, while we're at it...Jome has gone drunk with banning power these days, and has ironically made the Gspot the most heavily modded section. Banning good contributors and letting spammers stay posting. It's pretty wack.

Just not quite sure where to draw the line... maybe the '2001' album should be 'the line' ?

I think the line should be just after the 2001 album, because the West experienced a resurgence after the 2001 album with Snoop, the Eastsidaz, Xzibit, and several others droppin some classic West Coast albums... so the line can't stop right at the 2001 album, it has to extend to around 2002 or 2003

That stuff should atleast be relegated to the G-Spot.

I think Jome has been fair and is just trying to keep the forums running according to their intended purpose as stated in their rules/guidelines.

But from what I have seen of Jome, dude is a positive force at the forum.

im mainly talking about the west coast section. no one else was banning the trolls & the spammers like he did.

i agree that the anything goes section should be treated differently than the main section, that was the plan after all

That's true. But he went a little overboard and started banning members that had been here for years

the debut of the game with "documentary" was january 18, 2005...i think it's fair to consider anything before 2005 old school/classic west coast. technically, it's not old school or classic, considering xzibit came out with weapons of mass destruction in 04, while snoop came out with r&g, but the game's album is right about when the new west came along and the bishop lamonts, spider locs, and glasses malones started gaining popularity as the upcoming west coast acts.

good shit

I see people on here who've been banned over and over who keep coming back.

The only way I can see to 'get rid of em' is to enforce a lengthy 'protectionist' style lockdown of the forum where sign ups are closed so if people step outta line, they're out for good.

I think it'd galvanise things..

btw on the subject of forums, what alternative west coast forums are ot there now? is there much anymore?

closing sign ups is lame. Dont you want new users?

Stop controllin things/changin things when everything is just fine!

You act like Jome's replacement wouldn't have the common sense to ban spammers.

Or keep Jome, but take away his global control & just make him a Mod of this section.

Then even enyce could successful moderate the Elements section. Only a moron would make a sticky thread stating the rules & then break them & then further on dodge people who call him out on that lol.

& I haven't really been reading the point of this thread to begin with. I just saw opprotunity to voice my opinion's on this forum lol. What exactly is going on? What is Over Seer doing?

i said these things before but...have a small section for new members to introduce themselves and if possible stop non-members being able to see links. this would dissuade leechers and possibily translate to some new posters, or at least registrations.

Keep Jome as a section mod if you must but he needs his power taken way. He has clearly abused it. I'll give just one example. He perma-banned Tom for no reason at all that anyone could come up with. And when he was asked why he refused to even answer the question. As a matter of fact we still haven't gotten an answer. That's not global mod material.

The westcoast should be split from 2004/2005 and down, the people that say the new section wont have any memebers are the same people that talk about all the old school shit and make threads about the new shit go down.  Having a section for the newer artist might bring in new members or might not run away the members that leave cause it seems as if everyone is stuck in the past.

You should put the sports forum on the main page of the forum instead of a sub forum of the entertainment section.

You should get rid of the simple machines forum and purchase a vbulletin also, its a better looking/functioning forum and it has a lot of mods that you could address other problems with...

Thank you! I've been calling for a classics section forever.

Now, can we get a stickied "retired topics" thread so we never have to hear "which rappers are bloods", "why doesn't dre work with warren g if they're brothers", "does anybody have the full versions of raw dawgs, bang on em, or crook show", etc etc etc?

Good to hear from you seer

Sure but Spammers tend to exclusively start inflammatory topics, derail threads, constantly beef etc. Rather than actually contribute relevant stuff..
