Im really feeling this album the sound is great and Snoop is making some of the best tracks hes made in years.  I just wish "My Fuckin House" wasnt on here, it kills the vibe after "Wonder What It Do"...

But there are some MAJOR classic Snoop tracks on here, and the overall vibe is great.  And that was dope to hear Tray Dee giving a shoutout on the intro to "GangBang Rookie"

IMO it's better than the Blue Carpet!  Juuuuuuust as good as Tha Last Meal, I'm really really really proud of Snoop and I'm surprised at the same time.  Didn't think he had it left in him!

Snoop must be planning a lot of promo for this album as there's no UK specific date from the release.

I wanna order this and not download it but check out this price on amazon

I was checking HMV etc last night and none of them have it listed so looks like he is going to do some promo over here before he releases it, might have to check the prices on Amazon marketplace or Ebay when it's released.

Agreed. I did that with the LBC Crew album an got it shipped from a UK seller on amazon for like £10.49 once it was out. 8)

cdwow.com is giving a date of May 2nd. Maybe that's it ???

not impressed at all. yes it's funky but there's no hit potential. it lacks some grime accents and that makes the album quite boring imo. i've expected more to be honest...
don't get me wrong...it is not a bad album but on the other hand i can already say it has no replay value to me...

GREAT album... easily his best since BCT and his best album w/ no Dre

the weakest part about it was the mixing on some songs (esp the david banner track)... i dropped a few (wet, my fuccn house, raised in the hood) and put in so gangsta + protocol + that tree for my own mix 8)

diggin the funky upbeat westcoast vibes. this is def. a smokin album... the gorillaz track is a perfect smoked out soundscape to get lost in... daz killed it on his feature (surprised me).... gangbang rookie was impressive... wonder what it do is probably my favorite track. this is gonna get mad play from me

i think he realy stepped his game up on this one. he tryed this time to satify his hardcore fans, but there is always a bunch of mainstream songs on, he is universal. there will always be mainstream songs on a snoop album.

But whatever you can always have your opinion.

First heard the song late last year and been waiting to hear it again ever since. I swear it's like a 2011 successor to "Ain't No Fun" (coming as close as is realistically possible to rival that classic.)

From my first couple spins, the album sounds great. I can vibe with the vast majority of the tracks on offer. Yes, there are a couple of select throwaways, but when has Snoop EVER released a 21 track album that didn't falter somewhere? That issue harks as far back as Tha Doggfather.

Snoop sounds largely reinvigorated and the production must be the most appealing to this board since Tha Last Meal or BCT. I'll be purchasing.

Toyz N Da Hood is just weird.

overall this album very forgetable. better than ego trippin and malice but anybody could top those.

Take U Home is the best joint on there!

Boom, My Own Way, The Way Life Used To Be, Take U Home and I Dont Need No Bitch will stay in rotation

Rest I will forget.

I don't want to sound like "that guy", but lol @ some of you West Coast heads having the ill double standards.

Let's be real, this is alright at best. Four or five songs worth listening to more than once. But it gets praise.

Then on the other hand, Dre has to put out a hands down timeless classic or else it gets shitted on.

That's the common thing with almost all of Snoop's albums. If he cut back 5-7 tracks on most of his releases, he'd have very good albums/near classics.

By the way, how come Tha Last Meal is so highly rated on this forum? I've never gotten that. NL Top Dogg >>>> Tha Last Meal

Let's be real, this is alright at best. Four or five songs worth listening to more than once. But it gets praise.

Then on the other hand, Dre has to put out a hands down timeless classic or else it gets shitted on.

I agree with this.  I think Dogg's getting praise because it isn't a wack album and people were expecting wackness since the first press release that it was going to be distributed in tandem with MTV or something IIRC.  The problem with this album is it's just kind of...boring, I'd say.  A lot of the tracks are just "meh."  Not wack, just bland.

Overall, better than Ego Tripppin by a slim margian (not much better, though), definitely better than Malice, but not as good as Blue Carpet.  Take You Home is the best song, but I also like This Weed Is Mine, Gangbang Rookie, El Lay (a little bit) and the one w/ Chucc.  Big disappointments, though, are the first Battlecat track (boring) and We Rest in Cali (should be much better given the pedigree).  Also, Peer Pressure sounds messy to me, surprising for a Fred Wreck production.  His drum patterns are usually very clean.

Peer Pressure is pure funk. Crazy ft. Nate was nice but less upbeat. Best true g funk track I've heard in a long time.

Toys n the Hood...can't go wrong w/that Knee Deep sample. Wish it was longer though and had a bit of rapping on it.

Cold Game and Gangbang Rookie are solid too. Don't know what the hype is about Take U Home. No way this is even in the same league as "Ain't No Fun."

I just listened through the album again, and have to ask this question:

Why would Snoop put two tracks on the album (back-to-back nonetheless) that use the same exact sample?

"Eyez Closed" and  "Raised in Da Hood"  both sample Jimmy Spicer "Money (Dollar Bill Y'all)" (the same one Maino used for "Hi Hater"). Seems like "Eyez Closed" used a slowed down version.

1. Toyz' 'N Da' Hood - N/A. Funky intro. You know Snoop always has sick Intro's. Bootsy Collins or George Clinton are always on one  :D
2. The Way Life Used To Be - 4.25/5. Funky Battlecat beat. Love it! Snoop raps real nice on here. Very good start  8)
3. My Own Way - 3.5/5. Beat is pretty simple and takes a backseat. I really like Mr. Porter hooks; always have. The beat is too simple to take this song to the next level.

4. Wonder What I Do - 3.75/5. Battlecat again, my God. Uncle Chucc has a hell of a voice. Pretty cool and funky. Snoop is cool on this too.
5. My Fuckin' House - 3.5/5 Beat BANGS. Jeezy fits it well. That "my fuckin house" in the background is annoying though. E-40 sounds cool on it too. I like it for what it is.
6. Peer Pressure - 4.5/5. Fredwreck! Beat is awesome. Sounds A LOT like "Crazy." Traci Nelson smashes it too. Very good authentic west sounding record.

7. I Don't Need No Bitch - 4.5/5. We all heard it. Dope ass song. Can't go wrong with Khalil/Kobe. So cool to see Devin on this too. Bangin' record.
8. Platinum - 2.75/5 Snoop & Kells! Lex Luger (no surprise). This is ehh. "That's That Shit" was way better. Does nothing for me at all.
9. Boom - 4/5. A Scott Storch single?!? Beat is bangin' for a mainstream record. T-Pain does a good job. This is a real cool record! Play this in the car on the way to the club.

10. We Rest 'N Cali - 3.75/5. This is cool. Beat is funky and cool. Smooth, funky Bootsy Collins. Nice to see Goldie Loc on here too. Cool record overall.
11. El Lay - 3.75/5. Smooth. Scoop Deville is cool. Never heard of this Marty James but it's a smooth hook. Wtf is that Tray Deee at the end?! Thought he HATED Snoop.
12. Gangbang Rookie - 3.5/5. Straight gangsta shit Snoop does best. I fuck with this heavy. They got a real youngin' rappin' on here lol.

13. The Weed Iz Mine - 4/5. Has a cool old school vibe to it. This just has a dope funk level to it. Wiz Khalifa sounds great on it too. Very cool record. Who's the girl on it?
14. Wet - 2/5. The first single. It serves it's mainstream purpose. I can't fuck with it though.
15. Take U Home - 5/5. Nice to see Meech Wells! This is pure funk  8) Kokane kills the hook and Too $hort sounds dope as fuck on it too. Daz & Snoop sound tight too.

16. Sumthin' Like This Night - 2.5/5. Snoop always has at least 1-2 weird collaborations. This is ehh. Not terrible, but doesn't really do anything for me.
17. Superman - N/A. Lol it's hard to hate on this. Definitely not my cup of tea as a hip-hop fan but it's straight comedy. I'm not even gonna rate it  :P

18. Eyez Closed - 2.75/5 Beat is alright; heard much better from Kanye. Sounds like he gave him a throwaway. John Legend is dope as fuck. I had higher hopes for this. The beat is just coasting; very boring. And wow to add to the disappointment, Kanye used the same verse during the GOOD Friday songs (the cypher? - I know I've heard it).

19. Raised In Da' Hood - 3.75/5. Baby Dubb on the beat. This is cool; funky. Snoop's flow and raps on point. I dig this.
20. It's D' Only Thang - 3/5. Hook is ehh. Beat is ok. Not an awful song but doesn't have any replay value really.
21. Cold Game - 4.5/5. The last song on Snoop albums are always sick lol. Who produced the beat? Latoiya Williams has a beautiful voice as always.

Overall much better than Ego Trippin' & Malice N' Wonderland. Snoop always has plenty filler because his albums are so long.

1. Toyz N Da Hood
2. The Way Life Used To Be
3. My Own Way
4. Wonder What I Do
5. Peer Pressure
6. I Don't Need No Bitch
7. Boom
8. We Rest N Cali
9. El Lay
10. Gangbang Rookie
11. This Weed Iz Mine
12. Take U Home
13. Raised N Da Hood
14. Cold Game

Would have a made a near classic album  8)

Snoop seriously needs to drop that 21 track bullsh*t he's on... too much filler... if he narrowed it down to the best songs he could easily make classic albums...

01.  Toyz N Da Hood Ft. Bootsy Collins - 4/5, dope funky intro, reminds me of "Intrology" kinda
02.  The Way Life Used To Be - 4.5/5, nice solo opener for Snoop
03.  My Own Way Ft. Mr. Porter - 4/5, laid back production and hook from Mr. Porter, Snoop sounds good here
04.  Wonder What I Do Ft. Uncle Chucc - 4/5, another funk inspired cut that works
05.  My Fucn House Ft. Young Jeezy And E-40 - 4/5, I personally find this to be a banger though I know some won't like this cuz Jeezy is here, but all 3 do their thing
06.  Peer Pressure Ft. Traci Nelson 4.5/5, vintage Snoop, sounds kinda like "Crazy" with some of the elements in the beat, love the hook as well
07.  I Dont Need No Bitch Ft. Devin The Dude And Kobe Honeycutt - 5/5, the track that officially had me hyped for this album, top notch verses from Snoop and Devin and Kobe KILLS this hook, beat is also on some Detox shit
08.  Platinum Ft. R. Kelly - 3.5/5, R. Kelly rapping the first verse surprised me, he only had a few corny lines nut nothing really 'wack', Snoop actually killed this flow-wise, decent party/club banger and Lex Luger switched the sound up nicely
09.  Boom Ft. T-Pain - 4/5, WHOA this is actually knockin'! this should have been the lead single
10.  We Rest In Cali Ft. Goldie Loc And Bootsy Collins - 4.5/5, great to see Goldic Loc on here, overall just a dope West Coast record even though there's nothing we haven't heard before content-wise in it
11.  El Lay Ft. Marty James 3.5/5, Marty James was aiight but this song could have been much better with another singer, Snoop's verses were dope and the beat is smooth
12.  Gangbang Rookie Ft. Pilot - 5/5. another vintage gangsta record from Snoop and even that little dude Pilot kills this shit, love it
13.  The Weed Iz Mine Ft. Wiz Khalifa - 4.5/5, Snoop and Wiz are now 3/3 with their collaborations and this one might just be their best if it has more replay value than "That Good", really feeling this joint and can't wait to spark up later to it
14.  Wet - N/A, never listened to the entire song and don't plan on it, not my cup of tea but I understand Snoop wants to appeal to all different audiences, this one just ain't me so it's a skipper
15.  Take U Home Ft. Too Short, Daz And Kokane - 4/5, West Coast posse track, would have loved to hear Kurupt on this one
16.  Sumthin Like This Night Ft. Gorillaz - 4/5, never really did hear much of Gorillaz' music but I knew this would be something hit/miss considering the 2 genres, and it's a hit for me
17.  Superman Ft. Willie Nelson - N/A, I won't bash this because I look at it as more of a skit/interlude and once again Snoop just tryin' to appeal by having Willie Nelson's name on here
18.  Eyez Closed Ft. Kanye West And John Legend - 4/5, expected something a little different but this is still dope, beat has the same sample as Maino's "Hi Hater" and Kanye's verse was recycled but it still fit the song
19.  Raised In Da Hood - 3.5/5, cool track but nothing too special
20.  Its D Only Thang - 4/5, David Banner came through with a dope track, Snoop wrecked it
21.  Cold Game Ft. Latoiya Williams - 4.5/5, great way to close out the album, great vocals from Latoiya

overall the album gets a solid 4/5 from me, Snoop really surprised with this one... the majority of the album has the sound that his core fans want to hear, while still balancing out with the minimal poppy tracks to get the chicks/younger generation, and out of the 21 songs there are 18 that are keepers, I had a feeling this would be his best record since TBCT and I'm happy I was right... guaranteed purchase from me  8)

best tracks right now for me: "I Don't Need No Bitch", "Gangbang Rookie", "The Weed Iz Mine", "The Way Life Used To Be", "Cold Game"

this will be the first Snoop album I cop since Ego Trippin

Wow, you really skipped purchasing a lot of Snoop albums then...  ;)

Tha Last Meal

Yeah, i gotta agree with Reality Check. I always loved "No Limit Top Dogg" more, it's one of the first rap albums i listened to. "Tha Last Meal" is a classic though, but it has a couple of songs i usually skip when i'm bumpin' it.

last meal is really cohesive i think that's one of the strongest things about it. top dogg is better, not quite as cohesive. i prefer it cause of the quik joints and a few other things. most of the snoop albums since then have been real mixed bags. ego trippin' has one of the strongest themes running through the production, regardless if you liked it or not.

last meal is really cohesive i think that's one of the strongest things about it.

How so?

cohesive as in the sound of the production. there are some skippables but it all fits together real nice.

I'm still waiting on someone in the know to answer this. It really sounds awkward to have back-to-back tracks with the same sample noticeably used.

I know the theory "more bang for your buck" should apply here but it's way too long.  Some of these songs should've been saved for mixtapes and internet leaks and left as that.

01 - El Lay
02 - Keep Going
03 - Gangbang Rookie
04 - We Rest In Cali
05 - This Weed Is Mine
06 - Peer Pressure
07 - Superman
08 - Toyz In Da Hood
09 - Raised In Da Hood
10 - Dirty Dancer

Snoop's kinda old but that's still my nigga tho.

best album since last meal? i don't hear it.
lol, take into consideration that this album was called doggystyle 2 at first :D
but snoop is the king of mixed bags, no doubt about that.

anyway, peer pressure sounds really similar to crazy, like others pointed out. i bet snoop asked Fredwreck for a similar beat, as it's that close.
i like the beat of Gangbang rookie more than i did when i first heard it.
wonder what i do & the weed iz mine sound like keepers as well.
disappointed with the meech beat, was expecting something better.

i know new year's eve received mixed responses on here, but i think it's better than a lot of songs on this album ( and i don't even like the song that much)

A decent album from snoop after a while, this is the first album I listen without cringing for a couple of times...

Something weird actually works for me here, Most of the tracks that leaked (Gangbang rookie, El lay, Raised in the hood, Take you home) e.t.c...Actually make me enjoy the album more, gives me a kind of familiar feel.

Have to say i really do like Raised in the Hood.....

Snoop went for the Funk vibe with this, no complaints even though some hard knocking Fredwreck/Meech or SS beat would have been great still no complaint...

Snoop should be moving up on this album and improve on it.....No need to go back the weak level

"Cold Game" is so good. That Mandrill sample that Kanye used a few years ago + Latoiya Williams vocals. Awesome.

I like almost all of it minus a good five or six songs that should have been cut. really could have done without "raised in da hood" (mostly because it uses the same sample as eyez closed.. ridiculous), "wet", "platinum", "toyz n da hood".. "superman" is fine but it completely ruins the flow of the album.

Strongest snoop record since BCT.

After repeated listens the past few days, the only real lasting tracks that I come back to are Take You Home and This Weed is Mine.  There are some other good tracks, as I wrote initially, such as Gangbang Rookie and Wonder What It Do, but the two aforementioned tracks are the only ones that are MUST have keepers imo.  Just like Ego Trippin's only must-have keepers were Neva Have 2 Worry and Press Play.

I don't see what the big fuss is about. This sounds heavily outdated. Like the rejects from those classic Eastsidaz records in 2000. Snoop either goes too commercial like his last few projects or takes a step backwards like this one.

"This Weed Is Mine" is pure gold. That soundtrack is something that should be great.

The Way Life Use To Be

Peer Pressure
I Dont Need a Bitch
Boom
We Rest N Cali
El Lay
Gang Bang Rookie
The Weed Iz Mine

Just gave the album a listen. Must admit it wasnt overly doing it for me but then i found myself really enjoying it and my head nodding.
i wont judge it too much after only one listen, especially through average head phones and average set up.
i actually enjoyed the second half of the album alot more than the first half. I found that from "EL Lay" onwards i really liked the album. maybe this is due to me having heard more songs from that point on and they had grown on me and also the fact that as the album went on more beers were in me?
Even "WET" has grown on me a bit..
Still couldnt help but wish Kurupt and Soopafly, etc were on there and some of the production just seemed weak. "take you home" really showed how capable Snoop still is at making a dope fucking song if he raps with the rights dudes and uses the right producers.
I loved "this weed is mine".
I honestly didnt think the album was as good as some people were saying yet at the same time i dont agree that Snoop should've scrapped alot of songs. No songs were that bad to me. if anything remove "Superman" and "Wet" cos they dont really fit but they actually aint that bad in their own way.
Prolly give it 7/10. But it just made me have those outdated feeling that he needs to make songs with DPGC cos he raps really good. Having said that i really enjoyed songs like "Eyez closed".
 I think my faves were;
"El lay"
"Gangbang Rookie"
"Take u home"
"Eyez closed"
"This weed iz mine"
"Cold game"
I'll see how i feel after more listens.
Was intrested after reading the booklet to see mixing by mike dean and Soopafly. Thought Dj quik would've had more involvement though.  Someone said Dre mixed a song but i didnt see any evidence of that?
Definately signs that Snoop could still make a classic.

been bumpin the album for a couple of weeks now and just like everyone else on here.........think its solid but doesn't flow very well.  Honestly, snoop could have made this one of the dopest double albums ever if he split these 21 tracks into 2 cds with 10 or 11 tracks on each.  One disc, classic g-funk, the other disc the more modern sounding tracks..........i think it would have flowed great.

Disc 1
toyz in the hood
the way life used to be
my own way
wonder what it do
peer pressure
we rest in cali
the weed is mine
take u home
raised in the hood
cold game

disc 2

I've listened to it quite a few times now. Definitely has grown on me alot. Sometimes i will listen to it without skipping any tracks an listen to it twice.
Still havent had the chance to really crank it, i havent been on any long drives, i live in a unit so cank crank my boom box and iam waiting on new head phones and sorting audio issues on my pc.
Anyhow i have grown to really like tracks like "the way life used to be", "my own way", "wonder what it do", " i dont need no bitch" to add the the others i already mentioned.

I dont mind "Wet" now but that may be because the album better is much better than the gay techno version i keep hearing on teh radio three times a day at work....
The album still lacks something but i do really enjoy it.

By pop I mean as a whole.

The album's an eclectic mix of Hiphop, and rap over Funk, Dance, R&B, Club, Jazzy beats, clasic 80's Soul beats, Synth, Indie Rock(!)..and a Country track!
Sorry if I left anything out

It's no straight Rap/R&B type album...Snoop shaped it to something else..and made it very 'now'. Snoop is music in 2011 :pimp:

just listen to the album and im like snoop needs to stop making albums , this was his worst album .  maybe  2 or 3 good songs .  the rest has no replay value at all .   wtf

'Malice In Wonderland' is worse, this has quite a few quality tracks.

been bumpin the album for a couple of weeks now and just like everyone else on here.........think its solid but doesn't flow very well.  Honestly, snoop could have made this one of the dopest double albums ever if he split these 21 tracks into 2 cds with 10 or 11 tracks on each.  One disc, classic g-funk, the other disc the more modern sounding tracks..........i think it would have flowed great.

That right there would be one of the dopest double albums ever.

Are you serious? Puttin the weak songs on another disc doesn't make them good.
