Before you all start tripping, this is my own, subjective opinion. These are my personal favorites. But "Illmatic", "God's Son" and "Stillmatic" would certainly be on most people's lists.
1. "God's Son"- my personal favorite
2. "Illmatic"- everyone's favorite
3. "Stillmatic"- 5 Mic album
4. "Train of Thought" Reflection Eternal- Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek
5. "Hip-Hop Is Dead"- timely concept album
--------------------------------
6. "Let's Get Free"- Dead Prez
7. "Servants In Heaven, Kings In Hell" Jedi Mind Tricks
8. "Get Rich Or Die Trying"- 50 Cent
9. "No Way Out"- Puff Daddy
10. "Distant Relatives"- Nas and Damian Marley
-

Nas is my all time favourite rapper, but this thread is stupid. Maybe title it "Nas has 4 of MY 5 greatest East Coast albums ever"...and really, I'd put IWW up there as well, although Nas only real top 10 east coast album is Illmatic. You haven't listened to a lot of East Coast, I take it?
-
GRODT isn't even a top 50 east coast album. Ladies and Gentleman, the OG TS says he is the most knowledgeable hip hop head here but until a couple of years ago never heard the track "shook ones pt 2". That song defines east coast griminess. Even if you don't like Mobb Deep, to never of heard that track when most people think of that track first when thinking of 90's eastcoast grimey joints. Do not take anything this man says seriously at all.
-
I didn't actually hear "Shook Ones" until 8 Mile came out
-
I didn't actually hear "Shook Ones" until 8 Mile came out
LMAO
-
worst list ever
doubt there would be 1 in mine
-
Mobb deep defines eastcoast grimy hip hop the infamous is easily a top ten eastcoast album. But grodt is easily a top 50, top 20 even. You may not like it but it's impact alone puts it there.
-
worst list ever
doubt there would be 1 in mine
You wouldn't have illmatic?! That's a top five hip hop album, let alone eastcoast
-
Nas is my favorite rapper of all times, but this fuckin list is ridiculous.
-
You guys are not true Nas fans if you don't respect my list
-
:o
Wow, I'm in amazement that you actually mean this. Firstly there isn't a single Wu as a group or solo album in there and you 'have' put GRODT in. God's Son would be in nobodies list, you're just speaking for yourself. Distant Relatives and No Way Out in top 10 =
You guys are not true Nas fans if you don't respect my list
No, its just that people who are fans know that he only has 1 true classic and and ? near classics.
-
Thiers being a fan and being a Stan. That list is stan
-
I didn't actually hear "Shook Ones" until 8 Mile came out
:-X
-
No, its just that people who are fans know that he only has 1 true classic and and ? near classics.
Even the Source gave Stillmatic 5 mics (and 5 mics is the ranking they give only for "classic" albums).... and God's Son was an emotionally inspired album, due in part to the passing of his mother. Then on Hip-Hop is Dead he chronicled the death of hip-hop which makes that album legendary as well!
-
Untitled was way better then hip hop is dead and gods son
-
No, its just that people who are fans know that he only has 1 true classic and and ? near classics.

That does not make HHID a classic. The quality of the majority of the music was nothing more than average. Is GRODT in your list because of the impact it had then?
-
BIGGIE!!!!
-
I didn't actually hear "Shook Ones" until 8 Mile came out
LMAO
smfh
-
When you haven't got an album from peeps like Big L, Biggie, Wu (solo or group), Gang Starr, O.C., Mobb Deep, Redman etc in your list, you know you haven't listened to enough East Coast music to be able to make a thread like this.
-

this is like talking to a crack head about astrophysics...
-
he didnt listen to mobb deep cuz daddy tupac said fuck em
-
fuck nas...hes the most overrated rapper since snoop.
-
You guys are not true Nas fans if you don't respect my list
That's one hell of an ignorant statement. Since when did you become the world's foremost authority on Nas and East Coast hip hop?
-
Nas is arguably my favorite rapper and one of the very few who continues to progress with age. I always check his shit and he continues to impress me. His catalog is better than anyones over the last 20 years.
Having said that, that list is a fucking joke Brian. 4 of your top 5 east coast albums EVER are Nas records (wtf), and the other one is fucking reflection eternal? lmao. Illmatic of course is deserving...and don't get me wrong, I love Untitled and Stillmatic, and SD / HHID / Gods Son are dope, but shit you must be high or something.
Putting HHID and God's Son as the greatest albums ever is one of the funnier things I've seen on here lately.
Your cred is lacking breh.

So Lil' Kim's The Naked Truth is a classic album and Doggstyle isn't?
-
fuck nas...hes the most overrated rapper since snoop.
Do you want to make Infinite cry?
-
lol @ God's Son ahead of Illmatic & then LMFAO @ the rest & LOLMFAOOMGNOWAY @ to the title of the thread.
36 Chambers? Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous? OB4CL? Today is a sad day for Dubcc.

LMAO
-
Nas is amazing and has two extraordinary albums. Illmatic is an all time great hiphop album and stillmatic is a modern hiphop classic. He has other very good albums too.
This being said...no he does not have 4 of the greatest 5 albums to come out of the east coast ever.
lol@the snoop and nas comment too.
-

illmatic
3 Feet High and Rising
All of the Above
A Long Hot Summer
A Prince Among Thieves
Raising Hell
Midnight Marauders
36 Chambers
Liquid Swords
Disposable Arts
I didn't include cuz I don't know if it counts, but the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is my shit.
-
lyin brian doesn't know shit about anything. this shouldn't be new to some of the older members
agreed
Brian you get dumber by the fuckin day bro
-
:grumpy: :grumpy: and you call yourself 1996. youre not even 1999 motherfucker
-
Nas is probably in my top 5 emcees but I wouldn't go that far. A lil extreme if you ask me.
-
do you understand how many albums deserve a spot btr than that. for fucks sake the lost tapes r btr than all those albums other than illmatic.
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
GZA/Genius - Liquid Swords
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die
Mobb Deep - The Infamous
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
Organized Konfusion - Stress: The Extinction Agenda
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
Gang Starr - Moment of Truth
etc
theres a fukin 50 & puff daddy album in ur top 10 east coast?!?!?!?!
-
Before you all start tripping, this is my own, subjective opinion.
this is the point!
Respect this!
interesting list anyway.
I might got totally different, but yours is interesting too.
-
i can respect diff oppinions but thats just putting a list of pure nas seems more groupieish than anything....sorry. nas is dope, but he isnt the only dope east coast rapper.
-
I found anotha topic with the top albums, from the eastcoast, but it's specially NY:
http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=263120.0
-
You said this...
Before you all start tripping, this is my own, subjective opinion.
...then you went on...
You guys are not true Nas fans if you don't respect my list
...and you wonder why most people don't respect you.
-
haha oh god this list is hilarious...git 50,Puff Daddy and Distand Relatives (WTF?) on it but not Rakim,Wu-Tang,Biggie and em ;D
-
Wu-Tang is great and I love Wu-tang. But 36 Chambers just lacks replay value in my opinion. "Cream" and "Can It All Be So Simple" are probably the only two songs that you could put on repeat and just bump over and over for years. The other tracks are dope and entertaining, creative and everything else, but they just don't have the replay value. Also, the mastering on the album and sound quality is very poor, unfortunately.
As for Biggie's albums, I love his two albums as well. They are great albums, no doubt. Again, I just can't listen to them on repeat though because his lyrics are a little too pornographic and filthy for me to listen to on repeat for years and years.
But I certainly wouldn't argue with anyone who had 36 Chambers or one of Big's albums in their top 10 or top 5 for that matter.
-
Imagine Brian getting a call from his son.
Brian's Son: "Hey Dad, Can you pick me up from school?"
Brian: "Sorry, Son but I'm busy telling the West Coast Connection Forum about why Nas has 4 of the 5 greatest East Coast albums ever!!!"
Brian's Son: "Yeah but dad I don't have a ride home"
Brian: "Look son, I have to go because I have to tell everyone why Tupac is a better prophet then Jesus, call your stepfather"
-
Well that was interesting and it seems like you listen to allot of eastcoast hiphop. Here is my list.
De la soul is dead
Midnight Marauders
Low end theory
illmatic
great adventures of slick rick
sun rises in the east
Things fall apart
Reachin (a new refutation of time and space)
The main ingredient
the infamous
-
Wow, umm not quite sure what to say to that but probably the only album lyrically that Nas has that can hang with 36 Chambers is Illmatic and Stillmatic.
-
As for Biggie's albums, I love his two albums as well. They are great albums, no doubt. Again, I just can't listen to them on repeat though because his lyrics are a little too pornographic and filthy for me to listen to on repeat for years and years.
HAHAHAHAHA WHAT THE FUCK??
-
he didnt listen to mobb deep cuz daddy tupac said fuck em
2pac was a philosopher, a poet, and a Prophet!
With brian you have to understand, some times he is a troll because even as a 30 year old he is desperately seeking the attention his father never gave him but in this case I'll play along brian. 2pac was also a man so fuled by his disgusting greed that he accused two men of setting up his attempted murder even though those close to pac admit he knew BIG and Puff had nothing to do with the shooting but threw in their names to create false controversy. The end result was two men lost their lives at a young age and two small children now had to grow up without their father, some role model you have brian.
No wonder your wife has another man raising your seed.
-

"2pac was a philosopher, poet, and Prophet"- KRS-1
Okay, just wanted to make sure I caught a couple of monkeys saying my comment on 2pac was stupid and proof that I know nothing about hip-hop; before I tell you all it was a direct quote from KRS-1
-
It's not a fact just becouse KRS said...
-
I can actually comfortably say that KRS has said a lot of ignorant shit. I recently saw this documentary on the art of being an MC, and this motherfucker over-analyzed a freestyle from Redman.
-
I get the philosopher and poet part, but prophet?
C'mon now!
-
So I guess you guys know more about hip-hop than KRS-1? Okay... I get it, you guys know everything
-
So I guess you guys know more about hip-hop than KRS-1? Okay... I get it, you guys know everything
Oh so KRS-1's washed up ass is Yoda now? Try thinking for yourself, quit hiding behind a religion you don't have faith in and quit letting other people dictate your life.
-
i think krs-1 was high off his bell pepper nose when he said that and brian was just riding dick when he said it
-
KRS-One said that Lil' Wayne was the best rapper alive. Yeah...he knows all.
-
lol @ being a west coast gangsta rap stan and thinking a Biggie album is pornographic
-
i think krs-1 was high off his bell pepper nose when he said that and brian was just riding dick when he said it
LMAO!!!!
-
lol @ being a west coast gangsta rap stan and thinking a Biggie album is pornographic
i didnt hear biggie moaning and jizzing on any of his albums
-
In no particular order:
Nas - Lost Tapes
GZA - Liquid swords
Black Moon - Enter Tha Stage
Jay Z - Reasonable Doubt
Gang Starr - Hard to Earn
Nas's Illmatic, & Blackstar should be on the list as well.. There's probably far more hot product on the East, that in the West, because I'd struggle to have a top 20 West list, but easily fill a top 20 East list, with better quality hip hop
-
Now, on this ride there's gonna be some real mutha-fuckas
and there's gonna be some pussys
Now the real niggas gonna be the ones with money and bitches
The pussys are gonna be the niggas on the floor bleedin'
The world would be a much better place if we all just listened to the immortal words of the prophet Tupac.
-
Illmatic, Stillmatic & I Am... are my favorite Nas albums but this is a bit ridiculous.
God's Son?!? Really?!? It's alright.
-
i think krs-1 was high off his bell pepper nose when he said that and brian was just riding dick when he said it
LMAO!!!!
Making fun of KRS-1 for his African features, what the fuck is that?

Nas may be my favorite rapper but that list was awful man.
-
yeah infant theres video of krs one saying lil wayne is the greatest rapper of all time, which means that krs one said lil wayne is a greater rapper than both 2pac and nas. are you going to take him for his almighty word or what?
-
KRS-One said that Lil' Wayne was the best rapper alive. Yeah...he knows all.
;D
-

The best thing was when he said that all music before the 1980s was crap (or sth like this)
This guy pretends to be mr open minded yet he's completely limited to his heroes 2Pac, Nas and Bob Marley.

I have to see the context in which he supposedly said this, and that he did in fact say it. And if he said it like you said he did in that context, then you guys win this whole arguement
KRS-1 is brilliant, it's impossible he would say that Lil Wayne is the greatest rapper of all time.
-
In no particular order
Biggie - Ready to Die
Nas - Illmatic
Mobb Deep - The Infamous
Mobb Deep - Hell On Earth
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth - Mecca & the Soul Borther
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth - The Main Ingredient
Gang Starr - Moment Of Truth
Wu Tang Clang - 36 Chambers
Jay Z - Reasonable Doubt
Raekwon - Only Built For Cuban Linx

I found the clip where he said it. I do think he was just showing love because Wayne was doing the Stop the Violence thing for him. And for KRS there's a difference between being a great rapper and a great MC. But anyway, he said it, I can't deny.

It doesn't bother me with any of the West Coast rappers.
Snoop does it with way more truth, style and charisma then Biggie. So it never bothers me with Snoop. With Big it's stated more bluntly as filth without any redeeming quality. Like D-12 says a lot of filth too, but it doesn't bother me because the shock value and humor of it all is redeeming.

Your homerism is beyond comprehension. (http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1098/snoopfacepalm.png)

So its ok for Snoop because it's done with truth and its ok for D12 because it's humorous.
But you don't like it when Biggie does it because of the filth despite It Ain't No Fun being equally as filthy.
Do you ever get tired of contradicting yourself?
-
he can´t be this dumb. for real, this dude is trolling like there´s no tomorrow .
okay, he can be that dumb. he´s a fucking lamb
-
As for Biggie's albums, I love his two albums as well. They are great albums, no doubt. Again, I just can't listen to them on repeat though because his lyrics are a little too pornographic and filthy for me to listen to on repeat for years and years.
Right, because The Chronic and Doggystyle are all about love and abstinence.

LMAO... fuck outta here, that's enough
-
You're trolling with this thread, right Infinite? Because your stance on nearly everything in this thread is inconsistent.
-
don't know what trolling is... but I'm pretty clear on everything.
-Nas is by far the greatest East Coast rapper who when inspired can make albums that are superior to anything else out East
-KRS-1 is brilliant, and if you guys think I'm an idiot for saying Pac was a Prophet then that's funny to me because KRS said the same thing and KRS IS Hip-Hop! But since he said that Wayne was the greatest I have to admit than any of his opinions are subject to scrutiny.
-I love Biggie, and listen to his shit all the time. I just don't consider his albums in my top 10 partly because they are a little too pornographic and filthy for me to put on repeat all the time for years and years. While the misogyny that exists in West Coast rappers lyrics doesn't bother me because Snoop's a fuckin PIMP
Make sense?
-
Snoop isn't a pimp. Or at least he didn't try a hand in it til AFTER he was famous. Lol and even then he didn't make a career of it. And I highly doubt he was getting broads before the fame, considering the fugly girl he was with (and is still with) at the time he blew up. Matter of fact there's an interview where he says he waited a year to have sex with her :D
Biggie was a street hustler who was fucking broads like Faith Evans and Lil Kim BEFORE he became famous. Dude was a million times more truthful than Snoop when it came to rapping about sex and being a player.
-
Wow. Infinites reached new lows of stupidity with this thread. Anytime he argues with anyone this thread should be linked so we can all have a good laugh. The sad thing is he can't even see how dumb he's coming off. I think the real truth is Brian doesn't want to picture biggie having sex so he finds him talking about it gross. But he's sexually attracted to eminem and snoop so he enjoys it when they do it
-
hes gotta be trolling. GOTTA BE.
no one can be this fucking flakey.

He makes croissants blush

kelloggs is envious of this honkey.

Snoop is a fuckin G, he can say whatever the fuck he wants... he doesn't have to answer to anybody... Chhhuuuuuuuch!!!!
-
If that's your opinion then stand by it, I can't hate.
I agree that God's Son is a great / unappreciated album. Nigger was great too
-
Snoop is a fuckin G, he can say whatever the fuck he wants... he doesn't have to answer to anybody... Chhhuuuuuuuch!!!!
Biggie > snoop. And it's not even close. I don't think snoop would make it in many top 20s. He wouldn't even be in my top 50
-
Just admit it, Infinite. You don't care what Dre or Snoop say because they are from the West Coast. You are 1996 and you're stuck there, so you roll with West Coast and are against its enemies and that is the ONLY reason you can't stand Biggie rapping the same shit as Snoop.

yeah that makes a lot of sense on a thread celebrating Nas

That's true. Cause we all know Nas was beefing with the West Coast, never worked with Dre and didn't have 2 albums out by 1996.

If a rapper makes an album about Africa he has to be the goat.

I've been rocking with Nas since Columbia House accidentally shipped me a copy of Illmatic back jn 1994. At the time, I was 14 years old, only into gangster rap; this cd opened my eyes and expanded my taste. Nas been my favourite rapper since then- I have all his shit, but to put 4 of his albums in the top 5 is beyond stupid.
And yo, some of you young cats overrate Big L something serious. Dude really didn't get a lot of shine til he died.
Anyway, having no Run DMC, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang, Pete rock and CL Smooth, Biggie, etc makes this list a fucking joke( and for the record, I think No Way Out is possibly classic)

You ever see BIGs first baby mama?!?! You know BIG grew up in a nice house with everything he needed right? You know his stories came from other people's lives? Everyone close to Biggie has sai all that including his moms, best friends, etc. Biggie was not a street cat, but he was a dope rapper and storyteller
-
Hold up teecee you aint makin no sense. How is Big L overrated because he didnt get shine til he died? That has nothing to do with him bein overrated. Dude was a great freestyler and probably the punchline king. If anything hes underrrated. And Big used to sell crack back in the days how you sayin he wasnt no street hustler. That nigga from BedStuy. Have you seen the houses in BedStuy? My Grandfather used to live out there trust me aint no big houses on that block. I cant tell if youre bein sarcastic or not but if you think Big wasnt in the streets youre mistaken.

Sick freestyler but his albums weren't all that. Dude isn't a top contender. People overrate the shit out of Lifestylez and it wasn't getting shine til some people on the internet started raving about it.

You know Big was arrested for dealing right? That makes him a dealer. And for gun possession? I don't know his family situation but whatever it was there's undisputable proof he was hustling.
And like I said, he was fucking Faith BEFORE his album blew up. That's game ain't it?

So I guess you guys know more about hip-hop than KRS-1? Okay... I get it, you guys know everything
Oh so KRS-1's washed up ass is Yoda now? Try thinking for yourself, quit hiding behind a religion you don't have faith in and quit letting other people dictate your life.

You euro cats crack me up. Bed Stuy for a shitty neighborhood, though it has improved drastically crime wise. But it's all yuppies and hipsters moving in and killing the culture and character of NYC, has some beautiful brownstones. And it's well know that even though Biggie grew up in Bed Stuy he lived a pretty comfortable life growing up. But like a lot of kids in that enviorment, even though he came from a good background and still hung out in the streets.
-
biggie lived in a single roomed home but now his mom drives an accura and wears fine animal pelts on her back.

Hey Infinite, answer this truthfully. Did you make this thread because you recently started listening to Nas's discography?

I didn't actually hear "Shook Ones" until 8 Mile came out

I don't even think that bad of him and I liked his reports of his West African Traffickin tour but there are times when he seems to just not think things through before writing.

Nice & Smooth - Aint a damn thing changed
-
Before you all start tripping, this is my own, subjective opinion. These are my personal favorites. But "Illmatic", "God's Son" and "Stillmatic" would certainly be on most people's lists.
1. "God's Son"- my personal favorite
2. "Illmatic"- everyone's favorite
3. "Stillmatic"- 5 Mic album
4. "Train of Thought" Reflection Eternal- Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek
5. "Hip-Hop Is Dead"- timely concept album
--------------------------------
6. "Let's Get Free"- Dead Prez
7. "Servants In Heaven, Kings In Hell" Jedi Mind Tricks
8. "Get Rich Or Die Trying"- 50 Cent
9. "No Way Out"- Puff Daddy
10. "Distant Relatives"- Nas and Damian Marley
you fucking piece of shit idiot...stop posting here.
leaving out Liquid Swords, 36 Chambers, Ready to Die and who knows how many other classics, what a total JOKE of an account.

no what makes KRS-1 the the authority on hip hop is because he has been around since the early 80's & still making dope music . plus his first 5 albums are all classics & he is called the teacher for reason . krs-1 is from home of hip hop aka boogie down Bronx when hip hop was just starting & that also makes him an authority on hip hop .krs-1 is older then you & that makes him authority on hip hop and even life itself unlike you with ignorant closemindedness for a legend like KRs-1. KRs-1 is hip hop & that is fact not opinion. krs-1 is right while you are wrong . every song from the list westside159 put for Krs-1 is better then anything in hip hop in last 10 years.
anbody who calla krs-1 an idiot or disses him is ignorant closeminded idiot because krs-1 knows better then you . it is his culture first not yours.
-
You guys are not true Nas fans if you don't respect my list
how old are you? 16?
you better respect my list, lol
-
If agreeing with this pure blasphemy is what makes you a "true Nas fan", I'd rather not be. Despite the fact, I think Illmatic is the best album of all time lol.

I would expect a jew to be all for the stereotyping of blackmen...he needs to see them as athletic freaks and over sexed guerilla pimps and murderers to perpetuate his whole "down jew" facade...if he had the revelation today that most if not all that shit was ear candy for wiggers hed probably kill himself.
like i said i expect it from a wigger like nik not a militant quasi muslim like infant...praise be to allah

And Biggie didn't? What's the difference between Snoop and any other rapper that makes Snoop a pimp? All rappers rap about being a pimp and all rappers get mad groupies. Infinite is just a litte nut rider (to use your term) who needs to come up with any reason to justify listening to a West Coast artists songs and not Biggies.
