A typical Dre beat would sound generic as fuck on this album. Such a fresh sound. What a great fucking album. Album of the year after one spin as far as I'm concerned. 8)

Man this really is a great album. The lyrics & flows is crazy, the subject matter is definitely here and the cohesiveness of the production is consistent as fuck. Going from O.D. to section 80, he definitely progressed in my eyes. Overrall i got just what wanted out of kendrick.

Ab-Soul's outro going into hiiipower>>>>>

Yeah, but Kendrick doesn't just shit on a song & say he smokes weed & reps California on every song. So some bangin' West Coast beat wouldn't fit this album.

gave it a couple of spins...very decent and got better the second time around. very chilled out though, you gotta be into the laid back stuff to really dig it. dudes definitely got good raps but i don't appreciate the nasally vocals. like some others mentioned, production is solid and cohesive.

Album is really nice  8) only find myself skipping 1 maybe 2 songs. Alot of great messages in the songs.

Fav Tracks: Blow my high, spiteful chant, no make up, fuck your ethnicity, poe mans dream

Production is on point, beats hit hard. Kendrick on the hooks killed it. I like how he's rapping some hooks, you dont see that as much now.

The album sequencing couldn't have been better, really liked how it ended with ab-souls outro to hiii power

I really didn't think he was going to go with that alternative Hip Hop vibe in a lot of the album. I'm not a big fan of it if I'm honest. Chapter 6, and Poe mans dreams has that laid back vibe though

The spiteful chant has what it takes to reach out to other areas due to it's commercial sound and get an audience outside the West

Fuck You're Ethnicity and Keishas song has that nice smooth sound with piano in the background. Good replay value, and 2 favourite songs of the album

Overall, the album lacks variety in sound, and wouldn't cater for everyone, but I like it. Maybe not as much as others on here. Perhaps after a couple of listens, the album will grow on me a lot more

That's how I feel.  Everything sort of just blends together, which I guess is a good thing as far as sequencing goes but few tracks stand out for me.  Still, I think it's a good album.

I'm not really feelin' all of the beats on the album, but "Section.80" does have a lot of dope songs on it. I've been bumpin' "ADHD", "No Make-Up", "The Spiteful Chant" and "Keisha's Song" the most. Kendrick's talented, no doubt about that. His music is real "different" though, so i can understand why some people might not like his shit. I need to check out some of his older material too.

I don't feel like most of the posters here. I think this IS a good album, nothing more, nothing less. It's no classic. There's 2 songs I really like more than the others for a simple reason; Kendrick is not trying to do too much. Sometimes I feel like talented artist and/or lyricist are trying to make crazy flows and wordplays instead of just freestyling what they have in their mind. I think it's one of the reasons I probably won't listen to the album for too long.

My favorite track is Poe Mans Dreams because it was smooth, incredible flow and nice lyrics, not too forced. It suits the beat. I hate it when the rapper and the beat seems to be separated, I don't know how to explain it, but this is my opinion. I can understand that some people will really like the album, because he got lyrics for days and the production is almost flawless (I don,t personnaly like Tammy's song and Chapter Ten)

6/10, this guy is incredibly talented and can do a much better album. I'm sure he will do it in a near future.

I don't feel like most of the posters here. I think this IS a good album, nothing more, nothing less.
didn't you mean to say decent? since you gave it a 6/10

Its not a classic, no way in hell...Its an average album with 2-3 good songs (Hiiipower, Tammy's Song & kind off liked Keisha's Song) . Better choice of beats would made it a good album. I give it 5 of 10.

It's a classic album, far better than todays new rap albums, he keeps it  100.
My fav. tracks are: HiiiPower, Ronald Reagen Era, Fuck Your Ethnicity & Hol' Up

I'm sure he will do it in a near future.

i can see where ur coming from, but imo i thought kendrick spoke his mind as best as he can, but at the same time appeal to more than just one group of fans.

making a sucessful rap album is fuckign hard because theres so many sub genres, and to make it listenable to all fan bases is close to impossible.

imo mixtapes and album switched places, mixtape tracks these days are somtimes much better quality than in most albums. IE crooked i

No for me most rap albums these days get 5/10 or less so I guess it's fair to say it's a good album. I'll bump it a few times, keep 2 or 3 songs, and then forget about it. I really like the production on this.

6 = Good
7= Very good
8= Must Have
9= Personnal Classic
10= Top 5 album ever

For me at least heh I think people these days are way to quick to call something a classic or a 8/10 - 9/10 album

Got mine today also (I'm in Australia atm). It's just in a plain plastic case (soft plastic) with a glossy cardboard insert. Pretty disappointing as the booklet with the Itunes release was multiple pages. 'Sall good though, happy to support and will still bump in the ride.

Yeah I agree with you, was a bit disappointing, I was expecting a jewel case and booklet. Even the signature was whatever lol

To answer your guys question it isn't a cdr, it is an actual cd with stamped letters and the tracks are cd quality. sounds much clearer in my car.

Overall I'm into supporting my favorite artist (you can see in my sig). Pre ordered jay rocks shit too.

To address the people who arn't feeling kendrick, listen to whatever your into man. Don't buy into the hype and don't just hate on someone cause everyone else does.

I can say I listen to kendrick, nas, common, 2pac then switch and listen to waka, gucci and lil wayne. I bought hard copies of flockaveli, carter 3, all of nas albums, all of commons albums, all of 2pacs, (Dl'd gucci's lol) cause I just listen to whatever I'm into.

there hasnt been a "QUALITY" rapper in the west that has potential like kendrick.

game was NOT a "QUALITY" rapper, kendrick has much more on his plate. its not buying into the "hype"

its recognizing talent and giving due when its deserved

yall are hilarious defending this. The good beats on this album remind me of the beats on lupe fiascos "the cool" and boy meets world too. the bad beats are terrible, and make the songs unlistenable. some are just corny due to what he is saying. not album of the year by a long shot.

I finally just got around to listening to this album now.

1. Fuck Your Ethnicity - 4.5/5. This is a SICK opener. Very soulful and Kendrick is extremely on point.
2. Hol' Up - 4/5. Again very nice and soulful. This is real music right here.
3. A.D.H.D. - 4.5/5. Loving the continuation of this consistent sound. Very nice concept.
4. No Make-Up - 4/5. Colin Munroe is a dope singer. I remember hearing him for the first time on a Donnis mixtape. Great beat too. Very cool/interesting ending as well.

5. Tammy's Song - 3.5/5. Interesting beat. Not sure if I like it yet. It's cool, but the worst track so far. Kendrick's flow is sick though and the concept is on point.
6. Chapter Six - I see it as more of a musical skit. No rating but it sounds great and is a nice set up for the next track.
7. Ronald Reagan Era - 4.25/5. Loved this since I first heard it when it leaked.
8. Poe Man's Vice - 3.5/5.  Mellow beat. Hook accommodates it well. It's a very cool track. Fits GLC well.

9. The Spiteful Chant - 4.5/5. LOL at the hook. Beat is fire. This is absolutely fire overall.
10. Chapter Ten - Another cool musical skit setting up the next cut. Kendrick has a DOPE short verse on here too.
11. Keisha's Song - 5/5. This hook singer is sick. Another dope cut from a perspective. This may be my favorite joint on the album.
12. Rigamortus - 3.75/5 Beat is cool. Interesting concept. Kendrick's flow is sick here! A highlight on the album in terms of flow.

13. Kush & Corinthians - 3.5/5. This beat is cool. BJ The Chicago kid is so dope. This is a cool track, nothing special though.
14. Blow My High - 3.75/5. SICK sample. Cool beat. A different vibe but it still fits Kendrick. Very cool track.
15. Ab-Souls Outro - 4.5/5. Very cool showcase for Ab-Soul. He kills this too. A very nice track.
16. HiiiPower - 4/5. The first single, always loved this.

Overall this is a fantastic release. At least an 8.5/10. Kendrick is an extremely unique talent with his own sound that has a powerful message behind nearly every song on this record. It's cool to see Dre cosign a talent like this, but Kendrick doesn't need that anyways, he's a phenomenal talent on his own too.
