Just give the records a first listen and so far I'm kind of disapointed because I was expected way better from Jay Rock but well it's not bad at all.
Let's bump this a few more times to see if it can grow on me and become a must

i like jay rock but dude lacks style out of the whole black hippy group, his flow is so bland, i dont know how hes trying to blow up like that.

i like rock better in more uptempo songs it makes it mroe exciting and his flows seem to have more energy.

tracks like "just like me" and "lifes a gamble" are dope, dope production, good verses, but its extremely boring to listen to. so bland.

id say say wassup is the best track on the album, i dont count all my life i cant believe he put that int he album, but i guess u cant let all the money for that weezy track go to waste

That track with Chris Brown was dope (though I think I've heard the beat before), definitely copping (if I see it in stores that is)...

Kinda disappointed that Nipsey ain't on this though.

its a solid album. its west coast but not too west where other niggaz like myself can't relate.. all the tracks i didn't think would be dope like the Chris brown track turned out to be hot.. the production is bangin. every beat on this shit had me bobbing my head. this album is not for hip hop heads, this is some gutta hood shit, that bout that beat sounds like its straight off that g unit album....  this album is getting a lot of good reviews on other forums like allhiphop and niggaz on there never like west coast rap... they gave it the classic stamp but nobody feeling ab soul lol http://community.allhiphop.com/showthread.php?232883-Jay-Rock-Follow-Me-Home-Is-A-West-Coast-Classic!!!/page2

i'll be copping this shit.

Cant wait to see who produced what, some BANGIN ASS BEATS on this album, i wish Kendrick Lamar got beats like this for that album he put out. By the way horrible decision to put that shitty version of the song with weezy on it, hate that version the first was EXCELLENT lol.

Jay Rock - Follow Me Home

Tracklist/ Review

1. Jay Rock - Intro (01:03)
Just a classic intro, fits the album perfect but I dont rate intros/ interludes unless they songs

2. Jay Rock - Code Red (02:45) - 10/10
First song of the album and its a banger. Has that classic Dr Dre/ Westside beat to it. If you like chronic 2001 and want something similar to that then you will love this song. Jay Rock killed the track also, overall a dope song & beat. Definitly brings that west **** back!

3. Jay Rock - Bout That (03:57) - 9/10
This beat got dope feelin to it, definitely top notch production again and brings the atmosphere & feeling of the song out. Jay rocked this track and made it another banger. Dope chorus on this 2!

4. Jay Rock - No Joke (Feat. AB-Soul) (04:20) - 10/10
Loved this song the first time I heard it on his mixtape and saw the music video. This song was one of the songs that really got me into this dude. Jay killed it, everything thing bout this song is dope. Love the bass line on the beat to!

5. Jay Rock - Hood Gone Love It (Feat. Kendrick Lemar) (04:05) - 9/10
Another dope beat, more sick ryhmes from Jay Rock. Man this album shapin out to be a classic! Jay got his homie Kendrick Lemar on this and he also murdered the track. These 2 do some of the dopest tracks together!

6. Jay Rock - Westside (Feat. Chris Brown) (03:3 - 8/10
Dope beat again, this song got that kinda R&B feel to it especially on the chorus probably be a radio song for the album. Chris Brown did his thing on the chorus and it sounds dope. Jay Rock did his thing to, dope song.

7. Jay Rock - Elbows (04:14) - 9/10
This beat is another classic dope song, that Dr Dre west coast chronic 2001 sounding beat. Scott storch style! Love the piano & horns on this one. Jay murdered the track as well making it an overal dope song!

8. Jay Rock - Boomerang (03:25) - 8/10
This song got a dif feeling to the beat, hard to explain it but yall will have to check it out.

9. Jay Rock - All I Know Is (03:41) - 10/10
What can I say? Another dope beat! Sick piano on this, another West Coast banger right here! Jay Rock on point on this with his flow and lyrics couldnt have done it any better!

10. Jay Rock - Im Thuggin (04:33) - 10/10
Wow, this beat! This album really blowing my mind! Its so dope. If you reading this stop now and go get this **** NOW!!

11. Jay Rock - Kill Or Be Killed (Feat. Tech N9ne And Krizz Kaliko) (04:10) - 9/10
Dope concept for this song and beat. Jay Rock did his thing on this but Tech N9ne completely destroys and murders this one and outshines on this one! Overall dope track!

12. Jay Rock - Just Like Me (Feat. J. Black) (03:42) - 10/10
Dope sick dark beat on this one, real dope & deep track. Real talk on this one and really feelin this track. Jay Rock definitely guna have a long and successful career! J Black on the chorus and adds to the feelin of the track. Peep the vid

13. Jay Rock - Say Wassup (Feat. AB-Soul, Kendrick Lemar And Schoolboy Q) (04:23) - 9/10
This one got that classic deep voice DJ Screw soundin chorus. Dope beat & everyone killed it.

14. Jay Rock - They Be On It (05:06) - 7/10
This song is aight and necesary for the album to give the album a different vibe.

15. Jay Rock - M.O.N.E.Y. (Feat. J. Black) (04:42) - 9/10
J Black is making his 2nd appearance on the album after the first dope song he was on which was 'Just Like Me'. J Black does his thing and brings another dope chorus. Jay Rock killin it as he has been throughout the entire album.

16. Jay Rock - Finest Hour (Feat. Rick Ross And BJ The Chicago Kid) (04:01) - 10/10
This beat has that classic Rick Ross maybach music sound to it. Duno if Ross had anything to do with that. Rick Ross does his thing and if you like Rick Ross albums you will LOVE this song. Jay Rock & Ross killed it! They gota do more **** together.

17. Jay Rock - Lifes A Gamble (03:27) 10/10
Nice mellow song, sick lyrics & dope feeling to the song. Another banger!

18. Jay Rock - All My Life (Feat. Lil Wayne And Will.I.Am) (03:46) - 10/10
Dope beat, fits the album well and ends it on a positive note. This song just makes you wana restart the album from the beginning!! Its a classic! Wayne did his thing, Jay killed it! Dope song

I agree. Way too soon to be calling this album a classic. Everyone is open to their own opinion though, not hating.

i grew up istening to classic westcoast & east coast albums, nwa, ice cube, eazy, d.o.c., rakim, dr.dre, snoop, dogg pound, pac & a few more, this album is a near classic in the same level as game's documentary debut or even doc advocate, what keeps this album from being a classic is that he says the same shyt that everyone i mentioned already has said. dont get me wrong this is a great album just what the west needed....maybe after a few more listens i could change my mind but its a near classic yes  :)
Title: Re: Jay Rock- Follow Me Home discussion thread!
Post by: GangstaBoogy on July 24, 2011, 10:06:55 PM
But "the documentary" is 6 years old. The fact that we can still listen to it makes it a modern classic (nowhere near the level of a doggystyle or 7 day theory btw). But opinion or not I don't think any album should be called a classic in its release week. Give it time. There was a time when I thought "da khop shop" was a dope album...I haven't played that shit in years, so no bueno on the classic stamp there. If were still playing this album in a few years then call it a classic, but for now the best it can be is album of the year.

nice album. which songs didnt made it to the final version beside Lift Me Up?

*Follow Me Home (Feat. The Game)
*Finest Hour (Feat. Rick Ross)
*Ask About Me (Feat. Lloyd)

I'm not exactly sure if these were meant for FMH but most didn't end up on any mixtapes so...
There is also appearently a song Jay Rock did with Ne-Yo, but that was before Jay Rock left Warner Bros...

Finest Hour is on here bro.

It's good to see Kendrick helping with a lot of the hooks on the album, it's not Jay Rocks strong point but getting someone directly from his camp to help is dope

Finest Hour (Feat. Rick Ross) is on there. he mentioned on twitter a few months back that he was having trouble getting some of the samples cleared. that follow me home track with game could have been one of those tracks along with lift me up. i can do without both does tracks being on there because them shits burnt the fuck out and dirt old, its not like those tracks would make or break the album... oh yea E 40 was supposed to be on the album also.

Just copped it! First time lisening to the album, on track 14, so far im very impressed. Very dope album, Jay Rock defintely did his thing....Really dope album cover and booklet too...Finally seeing some of these New West dropping albums, next up Malone. Wonder how Malones album will compare to Jay Rocks......Is anyone else from TDW signed to Strange Music?  Absoul, Kendrick, School Boy?

Album is good, but it's missing something to make it spectacular

been enjoying the album for the past couple days, very dope....one thing to add, me and the homie were choppin' it up about dude, and one thing i respect about jay rock is that while he's probably more 'real' and thorough than the majority of those who claim to be, he still be on some humble shit....he's an mc and makes music with dudes who are mc's, he's not stuck in the box of being a 'gangsta rapper' just because he is a gangsta...in other words, even though he's a legit street dude, he doesn't act like he is or try so hard, i guess its cuz he doesn't have too (i mean he reps his hood heavy, but the music is more inspiring and positive, feel me?)...sorry for all the quotations, hope that makes sense

It's good album but I don't see the big deal. I still put it behind Section80, OD, Setbacks and Longterm 3

And Lil B's album too.

The beats are great but to me Jay Rock is annoying as hell, it's funny how people try to put this at the same level as The Documentary!

maybe because both albums are carried by the beats?

What the dude above me said. Plus Coss Before I Awoke, Rakaa Crown of Thorns, Fashawn Boy Meets World, Strong Arm Steady In Search of Stoney Jackson, Davinci The Day the Turf Stood Still. There's tons of great music from the west coast that have come out in recent years. I can't really speak on mixing or mastering but frankly I wanna slap the people always talking about that. There's too many euros with sensitive eardrums.

I will check the albums u talked about... i hope i like...
when it comes to "mix&mastering"... i will teach you why it is so important...

this is the first mix of Renegade of Eminem which features Royce da 5'9''...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAsfB8d88fE

this is the last and official mix of Renegade of Eminem which features Jay-Z
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF7pr7sCeiQ

first one is a good song... second one is a hit, a classic!!!
you can also see it when u compare 2 different mixes of 50 cent's "life's on the line" on power of da dollar and get rich or die trying albums

u listened to knoc-turnal's "knocsville" album?? its a good album, it has nice joints right?? but it sounds like a mixtape... it sounds like its recorded in a basement...

so,  don't slap poeople because of something u can't even speak about...

1. Intro - N/A
2. Code Red - 4/5 Really nice cut. Beat bangs
3. 'Bout That - 3.5/5 Not bad
4. No Joke - 3.5/5 Cool track

5. Hood Gone Love It - 3.75/5 I dig this
6. Westside - 3.75/5 This is cool too
7. Elbows - 4/5. This is dope, beat bangs again. So far 2 favorite tracks prod. by Phonix Beats.
8. Boomerang - 3.5/5. More of a southern feel. It's cool though.

9. All I Know Is - 4/5. This is real hood, hard, grimey. All of the above
10. I'm Thuggin' - 3/5. Pretty redundant and average.
11. Kill or be Killed - 5/5. Jay Rock raps really tight on his. Probably his personal highlight on this album. Tech kills this too! Best/hook fire as well. Best track on the album.
12. Just Like Me - 4.5/5. This is real hard again. I dig this in a major way. J. Black kills this. This is a smooth ass Terrace Martin beat.

13. Say Wassup - 3.5/5. Hook is so so. Beat is real cool. This is alright overall.
14. They be On It - 3.5/5. Beat is alright. Kendrick Lamar drops a tight ass hook.
15. M.O.N.E.Y. - 4/5. J Black sings a great hook once again. Again, a rapping highlight on the album for Jay Rock. Jay Rock/Terrace Martin have some fantastic chemistry.
16. Finest Hour - 4/5. BJ the Chicago Kid is a nice hook singer. The beat is tight and fits Rick Ross pretty well. This is a nice feature. Smooth track overall.

17. Life's a Gamble - 4/5. Beat is cool. Hook is a nice, is that Ab-Soul? very good.
18. All My Life - 4.5/5. Always really liked this. Felt like it could have been bigger with a major label radio push. Glad it's still on the album. I like the OG hook better though.

Overall this is a very nice debut album. Beats, rhymes, hooks, etc, everything is well put together. And it doesn't sound like a compilation, sounds like a real album. Everything remains pretty consistent throughout.

I'm very happy for Jay Rock that he finally got this released.

Strange Music was a good move for him.

say wassup is the best track on the album.

song structure was amazing, and rock's verse isnt so bland and boring. kendrick is the only artists imo that has the chance of blowing up.

black hippy is dope as fuck, i like black hippy as a group more than their individual work, (exlcuding kendrick)

dont get me wrong, theres tracks where rock goes hard, but it doesnt nercessarily make the song good, usually its just too bland and boring.

say wassup is 5/5 best track on the album.

i dont know how u guys can label another song higher than that or consider a track better. i know its u guys own opinion,

but say wassup was just too sick, too original, and the last part ooohhhhweeee when they finish each others verses.
