Sticman "The Workout"- By far the best album of the year. Complete project, production, lyrics, conceptually, replay value, this is by far the best.
I know this is the third thread I've made this year about the album. But Sticman of DeadPrez is seriously the album of the year. RBGFitClub is gaining a lot of followers on the internet, heads that are coming together to get fit and train. This album provides the soundtrack music. It's not like your average workout music you may hear at the gym that is driven by hype beats, this album is actually a perfect harmony inspirational rapid-fire bars spit over meditative beats that can easily get you into the zone when working out.
Buy the album and put it on your ipod, work out to it from beginning to end, and you will see the results. ALBUM OF THE YEAR!
honorable mention: Bad Meetz Evil- "Hell The Sequel" - Long awaited duo album from Em and Royce. Two artists way past their prime. But still a few bangers to be found on here...
"Welcome To Hell"
"Fast Lane"
"Above The Law"
"Living Proof"
"Lighters"
The rest are just filler to me. But those tracks are all quality, certified bangers!

So you like 5 outta 9 tracks, where the rest 4 are fillers and the album gets an honorable mention in your Album of the Year thread? okaaay...
Another question: are these the only albums you've listened to?
-
I think the Reks album has been my favorite so far. Also wouldn't be surprised if you've listened to less than 5 albums this year, being so stuck in 1996.
-
Oh, and btw.. I've stopped giving albums the title "album of the year". It's so hard to decide, but I usually got 5 in the top; unnumbered.

It's just for the purpose of discussion and evaluating albums. If you say it's "too hard to decide" that provides less description than if you say "this album is good" but "this album is better".
And I haven't checked out a ton of new albums this year, but I have sampled a fair amount.
I love 96 and thats where my heart is at. I'm not "stuck in 96" though because life moves on whether we want it to or not, the world keeps moving.

I feel sorry for you

Shit... hip-hop is dead... so multiple bangers on one album in these days and times easily qualifies you for album of the year.

u don't really feel sorry for me your just saying that to try to make me feel bad.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers album
Lol I've not even heard that yet. Sarcasm or it's good?
-
my favorite so far has been danny brown's XXX album that he dropped for free
-
Watch The Throne.
Waiting on Justice's 'Audio, Video, Disco' to blow these out the water doe.
And no I don't have time to listen to every album dropped this year.
-
*w/o the irony* i'ma have to say "Rubbaband Business II". i was sayin this not too long ago. that album just bangs that hard.
-
Watch the Throne from what I've heard, Bad Meets Evil was pretty average IMO

If you really mean that, you need to open your eyes and ears and listen to other rappers.

LBC Crew - Haven't You Heard?
Yeah... forgot about that one, but that one is definitely in the top 3
-
hard to say, but for now..
1. Kendrick Lamar
2. Thurz
3. 9th Wonder
4. Ill Camile
5. DJ Quik/Techniec (tie)
-
1. Cats & Dogs
2. Shaolin vs Wu Tang
3. Charity starts at home
4.Cole had a solid debut , could have been better with the help of 2/3 outside producers
It has been a decent year for hip hop so far , a good amount of "solid but not outstanding" projects ... better than 2010...
the mainstream still sucks though and is in need of a big debut/big project album for years ... a "Get rich or die trying " , "College Dropout" or a "The Documentary"
-
Flokaveli >>>> the workout album
Section 80 is prob my fav album this year.
-
Watch The Throne.

Saigon - Greatest Story Never Told
That shit got old REALLY fast for me. Literally a week & all I could bump was "Bring Me Down".

it does have a dated sound and some old ass songs, but overall that was the best album to me in terms of structure

Fair enough.

WTT was a big project, no?

But its not in the category of greatness like the albums named above. All 3 shit on WTT.

I disagree ... MBDTF was nothing special to me and was vastly overrated here ... reading that some people thought it is Kanye second best album was kind of mind blowing ... well to each his own

It really doesn't. I can only listen to 3 tracks of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I can listen to the majority of Documentary.
-
My dark twisted fantasy was dope, and kanyes best album critically. I don't know how it canbe mind blowing when the album got rave reviews from every publication
-
MBDTF got rave reviews way better than The Documentary. It was a great album all the way through. The Documentary is just a good mainstream album that got extremely overhyped because it was supposed to bring the west back. People shit on Game now yet don't realize it was the same Game on The Documentary, just with Dre beats behind him.
-
I think Kanye's last album was his worst. However, not in a bad way. It was still an incredible album. Just compared to his first three, it was a small step below.
The Documentary was definitely better. & this is coming from somebody whose been labeled as the boards biggest Game hater lol.
-
Kanyes album was much better. Documentary didn't have a personality. Kanyes album was his creation, his vision. Listening to documentary it's obvious game is just along for the ride and stands out very little. Making the album forgettable. Tell me you couldn't insert any other gruff voiced emcee and it wouldn't be damn near the same album.
-

Could be true. But were talking album to album, not artist to artist. Kanye is 100 times the artist Game is. However, whether it was Dre's production or 50's leading direction, The Documentary was a better album to me.
