Damn if this is true that is pretty crazy 8), we shall see though once official numbers come in

Too bad when Wayne does a million in a week we get the "Too bad numbers don't mean anything" lol.
-
Supposedly it's on pace to sell 225-250k first week.
-
Great! 8)
Too bad when Wayne does a million in a week we get the "Too bad numbers don't mean anything" lol.
So you're comparing a well established artist, a heavyweight in the game to a debutant?
-
^Where are you reading that?
I'm saying if Wayne or Jay can shit out a million records & everybody's response to it is, "Ahh, who cares? The music is trash. It doesn't deserve those numbers. Album sales don't mean anything." Then it applies to all, albums sales don't mean anything & have no correlation to the music being made.
-
That's a good look, I got my copy 8)
-
wow that's crazy, way beyond what I expected him to sell then again I wasn't sure exactly what #s he would push, but with that "Work Out" buzz I knew he would have at least done 50K
dude deserves it and I'm buying my copy today or tomorrow
-
Congrats to him. Wonder how those numbers'll look at the end of the week...
-
I call bullshit. Does he even have a single?

Its not rocket science. When we don't care about the artist, numbers don't matter. But we want the artists we like to do well. I'm sure this applies to everyone.

"Work Out"
get out more in the real world, hit up a club, shit even turn on MTV in the morning at least once or the radio, and if all else fails I'm sure you have at least 1 or 2 girls on Facebook who maybe have quoted the song on their statuses

Jokes on you for still watching MTV. Is it really that big? Never heard anyone even mention J Cole.

yeah I watch MTV early mornings sometimes if shorty has it turned on, it's what I wake up to lol... and I've caught the "Work Out" video at least a couple times in the last few weeks... the song ain't monster like say "Otis" or "Niggas In Paris" but it's big enough to make these album sales believable
-
also has 'Can't Get Enough', I believe the next single is supposed to be 'Nobody's Perfect' featuring Missy
-
Decided to check out some of his songs on youtube and holy shit this guy sucks.
-
Still need to get this !

I can agree that album sales has nothing to do with quality, but it's great when a dude does good numbers on his first album (even though Cole is on a major) and has no "platinum" single and no T-Pain/Akon/Kanye/Wayne feature.
-
Seems like the label let Cole take the direction he wanted for this album ( at least for the most part of it) ... these numbers could be a good argument for Cole to keep most of the control on the sound of his 2nd LP or the executives seeing his "selling" potential could force him to go more mainstream to move more units ( which wouldn't automatically happened though) ...
-
Khalifa and Lupe sold about the same amount first week and barely went gold with hit singles, props to Cole for doing it without one

Networth but lupe stay pissing off his fans with his actions, and Cole has the title of the next great one, so he got alot of people buying his shit off of word of mouth, plus he had nerds sending keyboard threats to people who wanted to dl the album Yell
-
I couldn't give a fuck what it sells. And neither should any of you. Only people who should care about that is J.Cole and his record company. All I care about is if its good....and to be honest, its average at best and actually quite boring in parts. Which is exactly what I expected after over a year of trying to keep his hype fizzing.

J. Cole can't hold down an album by himself. How many songs are there about girls? He's shown himself to be limited as fuck as a lyricist. They aren't bad songs, but the same shit over and over again gets old fast and makes nothing stand out.

he just held his own damn debut down by himself

And it disappointed, hence why he can't hold down an album by himself. Duh?

No shit, just like every other post in this thread. Just like your own posts. If you single out my post to point that out, you're butthurt.

I'm not. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, can't force this album in somebody's ears. I know I'm repeating myself, but I'm just saying dude held his his own damn debut down; producing most of it himself and (not that I know anything about numbers) selling pretty good without a huge single and _loads_ of features.

I'd rather he not have produced most of this album and gotten some more distinctive beats. I'd also rather he diversify his lyrical content. If you're a fan who's heard his other shit, this is gonna sound like another one of his mixtapes.

How can facts be my opinion? :eh:
His beats are nothing spectacular, but it fits his style and I like it <- THAT is my opinion. Also, his tapes are great and are built almost like albums so what's not to like for a fan?

It's not fact that he "held down an album." Maybe literally if you want to be an ass, but I have to assume you are familiar with colloquialisms. What is fact is that you brought up his numbers as if it was supposed to be some kind of counter argument.
I like Cole's beats. But as you yourself said, they are nothing spectacular. When his beats fill up an entire album, it makes the whole thing boring. Similarly, I can listen to one song he's made about girls or finally getting signed and dig it. But listening to him say the same thing over and over again on every track is repetitive and that's not holding an album down*

Fair enough, I can respect that.

161,576 with 54% in, good for Cole, but I'm not feeling the album much

That review you posted today is exactly what I've been saying. Only difference is he spends the first half of his review kissing J. Cole's ass to downplay the actual review.

Yeah, and like I said; review is pretty much on point. From what I read, he spends the first part talking about his expectation and that explotion comparison is very precise.

J. Cole's made it to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard. That's pretty good considering he doesn't have much radio play...
And from a e-mail I got from Cole's people it sold 217,000 copies in it's first week...
