Title: Hip-Hop & Dubstep/Techno
Post by: Blood$ on September 29, 2011, 01:24:45 PM
how does everybody feel about this year having all these dub-step and technoish inspired tracks coming out? I don't exactly want to hear any more of this going on or for it to become a trend but there's still been some songs that I fucked with

examples that worked IMO: Kanye/Jay-Z - "Niggas In Paris", "Who Gon Stop Me", B.o.B & Wayne - "Strange Clouds", J. Cole/Jay-Z - "Mr. Nice Watch"

and examples for failure would be those joints 50 dropped and Snoop's "Wet"

Don't feel it , Techno is the genre I can't stand the most  ... little doubt it's going to be a trend though

The B.O.B track is pretty dope but the Jay/Kanye tracks are weak.

I like some of the dub step stuff if it's slower, but I can't get into this techno/house/dance stuff.

THIS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYnYnHpBp_I makes me sick

no one here even knows what techno is. i think the techno you are referring to is commerical euro-dance crap which american pop (and mainstream rap) is copying these days. techno is a completely seperate genre. its like the difference between maroon 5 and heavy metal or something like that lol , u get the picture.

I think you guys are referring to Electro. It's not the same as techno, and if electro is being played on the radio, then it's house.

But I definitely fucks with dubstep and loved the way Ye used hints of it on the new album.
Keep it coming. Gotta keep it fresh.

Some are hit, some are miss. Definitely think it's gonna continue being a huge trend for at least a little while though

I like this dubstep rap thing. The combination sounds good.

I'll admit when I first heard dubstep I was like wtf is this shit who would listen to it. But now that I've heard some dope raps on top of dubstep beats I finally get it. It isn't music to listen to it's just material to work with for DJ's. Shit like this https://www.youtube.com/v/aCA4yiPfFIg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCA4yiPfFIg) makes it seem even more so.

You can't put in a title "Dubstep/Techno". They bear no resemblance to each other. That's like putting "Rainfall/Couch" up there. Its nonsense.

Techno and Dubstep have nothing in common other than both can be very very vaguely shuffled into a vast array of completely different genres that come under the umbrella of 'electronic' music.

All those "examples that worked" that you named are so dope. I hope more artists experiment with it.

I am surprised Alchemist (who has been rolling with them for years) has not been able to deliver them the kind of gutter beats they need for an old style Mobb Deep LP. After all gutter beats is his specialty.

This is true, but just because the dubstep that has became famous and mainstream isn't the dubstep that was created back in the early 2000s in London, it doesn't mean it isn't dubstep. But yeah, give me Burial or early Benga over Skrillex or DJ Fresh any day of the week.

By the way, I wouldnt diss Skrillex entirely. The song 'Scatta' by him featuring Foreign Beggars, is one of my favourite dubstep tracks of all time. A lot of his songs sound the same though and some of the drops seem a bit over the top and not very well crafted.

i guess you can still call it dubstep, despite the fact that it doesnt share the original ideas and sounds of the real stuff. the american market especifically has focused on making the stupidest sidechained drops to the point were the only thing that makes it recognisable as dubstep is the 2step beat (and even that will be replaced by a more listener friendly 4/4 soon enough)

this is the best dubstep comp that exists imo: http://www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/releases/?id=11766

this is real heavy dubs without stupid distorted drops: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bjKpKgk1Iw

pure dark dubstep, no bullshit. this is the kind of shit ill always come back to. dubstep as a genre is dead to me. all the real heads are listening to future garage/uk bass anyway. see you in 5 years meatheads

to be fair, in terms of new dance music and alternative urban subgenres, the UK has been years ahead of the US for a long long time.

yeah i get u bruv, nothing wrong with being behind. its more the commercialisation and transforming of dubstep into this horrible monster that gets me. luckily garage/uk bass is not going to hit it off with the candy ravers or hood wearing meatheads, so its all good.
