If you look at all the indie rappers buzzing right now and the newcomers to the mainstream, what they have in common is that they keep putting shit out constantly (Big Krit, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, etc). I feel like these west coast dudes keep waiting to get signed and have a major put their album out before they even make the music out. But people were actually digging the music Big Krit, J. Cole and others were putting out before they even had plans for a major label debut.

I doubt it be Snoop specifically & individually. They known each other for too long & Snoop 's always said he loved Kokane's music & did sign him on Doggy Style Records, just like he did Soopafly, Bad Azz, RBX, Tha Eastsidaz, E-White & several others over the years.
Truth is, Snoop ain't built to be a Suge or a Diddy or a Master P. He on tour half the year & has his own brands to promote. He meant well but ain't no mogul.
He made Kokane shine not only on "Tha Last Meal" only, also on "Deuces & Trayz" & "Welcome 2 tha House". He had him record a solo album, that his major didn't wanna sell, & neither did they believe in Snoop's other artists. But that's when & why Kokane did almost as many hooks as Nate Dogg then. Don't you forget!

Agreed. BBut he doesn't have the distribution without the support of a major, that's what I'm trying to say... Maybe the truth lies somewhere in between & we'll just never know for sure? All I know is it's sad to see such waste of talent & potential not only for Koka Loca but all the other artists we already named. s far as I'm concerned, if you look back at the point in time, the Doggy Syle "compilation" type of albums highlighted MAJOR talent, not only "Welcome 2 tha House" but maybe even more so "Bones". But nothing followed.

at one point Snoop was a CEO of a label with a roster so at one point his own career wasn't his only priority... if his ambition was to develop other artists and build a respectable catalogue like, say, Hoo Bangin, then he had to step his ceo game up. that being said, he doesn't "owe" anything to anybody and Doggystyle still had a short, but very good run, with several great (some even classic in my book) albums. i don't know why u don't like the Doggy's Angels, they're not the best out there but their first album was very good (even though it was clearly carried by the productions). E-White was average but I liked his White Album that he dropped on Foesum's label.
anyway, never really liked Kokane after his Ruthless period. Funk Upon a Rhyme is a classic but the rest is so so. even though he can come up with some very good features and dope production from time to time.
