Post by: One Eyed Willy on January 28, 2003, 04:37:51 AM
in my opinion these 2 crews are gonna battle it this year for best label.

ROC:

Jay-Z
Beans
Camron & Diplomats
Bleek
Freeway
MOP
Twista
Young Chris
Neef
Sparks

anymore? just add on!

Shady/Aftermath:

Em & D-12
Dre
50 Cent
Rakim
Ice Cube??????
Horse
Obie Trice

anymore? just add on!

ROC:
Jay-Z - Dope
Beans - Dope
Camron  - Used to be dope.
Diplomats - Trash
Bleek - Boring
Freeway - Dope
MOP - Dope
Twista - Dope
Young Chris, Neef, Oschino, Sparks - Boring.

Shady/Aftermath:
Em - Dope
D-12 - Trash
Dre - LEGENDARY
50 Cent - Dope
Rakim - LEGENDARY
Ice Cube - LEGENDARY
Obie Trice - Boring

I'm feelin' both camps but Aftermath is winning by a landslide.

Aftermath also has Joe Beast, Brooklyn, Shuanta, Antonio and The Game.
And i think Aftermath will release the better records, but i only like M.O.P and Kanye on ROC.

Who the fuck is Horse?

Camron  - still good, dude wanted to go plat badly, congrats
Diplomats - i would say 'prepare to be suprised'
Bleek - he's underated. listen to his debut. recently tearing it up
Freeway - dope
MOP - not really feeling em
Twista - Dope  -  goat speed rapper
Young Chris, Neef, Oschino, Sparks - Boring.  -  young talent. good spitters

Shady/Aftermath:
Em - dope
D-12 - dope, very underated
Dre - LEGENDARY
50 Cent - Dope
Rakim - washed up now
Ice Cube - washed up now
Obie Trice - nice
beast - average
G - Unit - nice

imma say its close but ROC is the key.

Hell naw Aftermath is gonna rule in 2003.  Nothing's touching them the roc may come close but to tell u the truth i'm anticipating every release by aftermath.  there's a couple from the roc that i'm waiting for too.  But IMO i think Shady/Aftermath has the edge a little bit.

apart from swifty.....whos a good rapper, n eminem n proof, they are wack, they didnt prove shit to no one with their first album apart from they tryna be like slim n no one rated them for it rightly so........bizzzare is the wackest rapper goin,lol..........he fucks up so many of their tracks......only big eminem fans really like d12, but they have made two good tracks lately.......rap game n when the music stops........but again bizzare jus needs to put the mic down...........

Eminem vs Jay-Z
50 Cent vs Beans
Obie Trice vs Freeway
D-12 vs State Property
G-Unit vs Diplomats
The Game & Joe Beast vs M.O.P.
Ice Cube vs Twista

easily eminem wins the first battle...Beans would eat up 50...Obie would take out Freeway...D-12 would serve up State Property...G-Unit and Diplomats cancel each other out...The Game & Joe Beast are more lyrical than M.O.P. but i think itd be a tie...Cube & Twista is even...tho Cube has accomplished much more...

Shady/Aftermath wins...

Legendary/Dope/Acceptable rappers on Roc-a-fella:
Jay-Z, Beanie Siegel, Twista, M.O.P.,

Legendary/Dope/Acceptable rappers on Aftermath:
Dr.Dre, Eminem, Ice Cube, 50 Cent, Rakim, Proof, G-Unit

Aftermath wins..
However, this doesn't mean that M.O.P, Twista or Jay-Z can't make a better album than the Aftermath lineup..
I can picture M.O.P or Jay-Z making a better album than both d-12 and 50 Cent..

And in the average category:
Memphis Bleek, CamRon, Freeway, Young Chris, Sparks, d12 w.o./Proof/Eminem, Obie Trice, Joe Beast..

^^ These sparkle from time to time, but haven't proved themselves on a higher level, or in CamRon's case.. fallen off.
There's still good hope for Obie Trice, Joe Beast & maybe Sparks and Young Chris.

lol at people thinking ice cube and rakim gonna come back with bangaz, its over let it gooooooo. i guarantee obie trice drops a more appealing album than both of these veterans.

why do people bring the term legendary in this topic ???. im talking about 2003, i am not after a career assessment.

today freeway>ice cube
today llyoyd banks>rakim

d-12 are nice, i dont understand the hate they get ??? i understand the hate for bizzare but the other mc's in d-12 are nice.

this label match up is just too close imo. but a major factor in prefering one label from another is that:

Shady/Aftermath cater for all hip hop listeners

ROC (except for Jay Z) cater for the streets

You have a thing or two to learn about hiphop..
If you think Rakim isn't gonna bring heat, then you should just pack you bag..
The Freeway-line is a joke, and the Lloyd Banks-line isn't even a joke.
You got very much to learn about hiphop BEFORE 2002..  ::)

as for rakim, ever since he been on aftermath i only heard him on the watcher pt 2 and to be honest i was dissapointed. llyoyd banks has had much better verses than that. im still optimistic about rakim but i aint gonna get all exited for it, imma just wait and see.

so u judging Rakim cuz of one single track?

well take one random track of all tracks Lloyd Banks' done in 2003 and it wiill NOT be better than Rakim's verse of The Watcher which was definatly good.. just for Rakim The God it was below his standart.. but don't never compare his standart to Banks'

and waht's Cube done in 2003? The Shit.. can't think of mo right now maybe i forgot sumthing but Freeway's standart is never higher than Cube's today either

Damn Diplomats I don't what you're smoking on but can you get me some cause it seems to be a very strong mind altering substance.

I'm sorry but comparing Lloyd Banks, some pussy ass ROC rapper to the lyrical GOD that is Rakim is pure stupidity. Damn, even though Rakim had two verses last year on the Truth Hurts joint and the Watcher Part 2, in those two average by Rakim standard verses he eclipsed Lloyd Banks whole career.

Freeway just gets fucking annoying after a while and the only joint I actually like of his is Night Shift. On the other hand Ice Cube had an extremely dope verse on Westside Connection - Holidaze and even in 2003 is still absolutely light years ahead of mega beard.

And finally, you said that you weren't really feeling MOP. Damn, MOP are probably the best artists on the ROC right now, along with Twista, so to say that they aren't good is plain stupidity.

Other than Rakim and Ice Cube Aftermath/Shady won't release any more classics or near classics this year, although Proofs album will probably be pretty good.

But, I can tell you right now that the battle won't be between these two labels, cause I have a sneaky feeling that the Gang Starr album and the NYG'z joint on DJ Premier's label will probably eclipse most of these albums, and Rawkus have got The Last Emperor's album coming alongside possibly the second Black Star Album and Mos Def's Black Jack Johnson project.

But overall 2003 looks like being a pretty good year.

ive free since he first came out on that Jay-Z track..900 Hustler or whatever...plus i heard him get fucked up by Cassidy...and cry like a hoe...Cube has made much better music...and hell still does...Free aint much...and cmon Lloyd Banks is just some new jack who hasnt done shit...Rakim would shit on him in 8 bars...

To be honest, Lloyd Banks verse on "Don't push me" was better than Rakim's on "TW2"..

But that says nothing about their careers..
Rakim is a respected VET and a LEGEND..
Banks is a ROOKIE, and even Banks will tell you that..
He knows that Rakim is THE DON compared to himself..

Banks is not a wack ROC rapper, but a dope talent from 50's squad, and for so long he's staying just that.. a talent.
Other than that I agree with everything else in Waitin For The DJ's post..
Let's wait 'til Banks has a few albums under him, and then judge..

It really fuckin aggrovates me when people hear these new kats bust a quick verse, then think they Gods.  When 50 started blowin up, heads at my school were sayin he was TWICE as good as Eminem...just from hearin Wanksta and Places to Go.  That is plain and simple DICK-RIDING at it's best...

I'm a huge fan of Roc-A-Fella, so I definitely prefer them to Shady/Aftermath, that's not to say that the latter is "worse" though, I just prefer Roc-A-Fella's artists more. There's so many ill MCs at the ROC it's not even funny - MOP, Jay-Z, Twista, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Cam'ron etc. - I like music from both camps, but I'd pick Rocafella over Shady/Aftermath anyday.

Peace

Title: Re:2003 - ROC Vs Shady/Aftermath

I don't follow ROC too much, and whut I do kno is very little, so I'll only comment on the Shady/Aftermath camp.

Eminem is dope, always has been, always will, I'm sure he'll have some verses on other people's albums throughout the year and anything he comes with can beat off anyone from ROC.

50 already put it down with a hot album this year, enough said.

G-Unit might get their group album in by the end of the year, and Banks Yayo and 50 are all good, so I'd expect this to be hot. Throw in Young Buck and some other potential rappers from 50's camp and it's lookin' good.

Lloyd Banks has some of the nicest punchlines I've heard in rapping, and he is only 21 years old! This kid's LP which should come out this year is likely gonna be tight.

D12 is supposively coming out with another album, and I think it will be better than the last, which was great anyways. Proof and Swifty are very nice, both could do good solo. Kuniva and Kon Artis are sub-par, but they consistently drop decent verses, and the occasionl good ones. Bizarre is hit or miss.. some of his shyt is HILARIOUS, but some of it is just plain stupid and can completely ruin the song.

Dr. Dre is a legend, every beat he makes is great, and his final album Detox which is scheduled to be released early 2004(?) is gonna be dope no doubt.

Obie is showing some great potential recently, all of his verses have been off the hook, and I'm expecting the same from his album.

Ice Cube I haven't been following, but I've heard he's comin' out with an album which will be good, if not great.

Rakim's album SHOULD be great, I think Dre will deliver, he dam well better, cuz it's been a long 3 years!

I dunno the other rappers.. the people with low-profiles so far (Brooklyn, Joe Beast, etc), but I'm sure in time at least some of them will develop into something.

So.. this is whut ya got:

Eminem - Always due for dope verses here and there.
D12 - Droppin' an album, prolly gonna be hot.
Obie - Droppin' an album, prolly gonna be hot.
50 Cent - Already has a hot album this year.
Lloyd Banks - Droppin' an album, prolly gonna be hot.
G-Unit - Might get out an album, could be hot.
Dr. Dre - No1 produces better, will get his album in to kick off '04.
Ice Cube - Droppin' an album(?), could be hot.
Rakim - Droppin' an album, prolly gonna be hot.
Low-Profile Rappers - no clue.

That's tough to beat..
