Dre's hardest beats are always celebrated...
What about the smooth shit? No lazy neo soul/jazz inspired stuff, I mean plain and simple smooth as butter production..
Could it be this?

The remix is genius.
Amazing how the beat is so smooth, but brings out the drama of the song.
The instro compliments the vocal perfectly...that fusion and 'un cluttered' sound actually makes the lyrics hit home with extra weight IMO.

- Nas - Nas Is Coming
- King Tee - Big Ballin' (Playin' To Win)
I suppose Bitch Niggaz is quite a smooth beat as well.

why are u comparing classic jazz to smooth jazz? LOL. it's like comparing Beastie Boys to Tech N9ne.
bump that Chris Botti track in the whip and try tellin me that bass doesn't knock...shits smooth as fuck. classic jazz and smooth jazz are like two completely different genres.
Jimmy Smith=Classic Jazz
Kenny G=Smooth Jazz
both dope in their own way.
-
The Formula by DOC was pretty smooth.

They're hip hop drums... Smooth jazz uses drum machines. Real jazz uses live drums. It's not comparable. That Chris botti trac is a top notch smooth jazz.

na, Dre never fucked wit Jazz (n def not neo-soul), n never interpolated elements in his own music (save for a sample on "Deep Cover"). those Burt Bacharach songs are just collabos, Dre on the drummachine - wish we had more of that, cuz u can put his drums to good use wit Jazz-fusion n smooth jazz. if anything, that would be a good route for him today
n i concur, Kenny G is dope 8)
-
'Smooth Jazz' as you're calling it = elevator music IMO.
Didn't know it was exclusive to drum machines Nic I'll just have to take your word for it :bandit:
-
^
uhhm.. so Dre can use his akai-drummachine on "classic jazz"? riddle me that, will

listen to "the last three minutes"....Dre did a whole lot more than just the drums. a Dr. Dre jazz beat is exactly what it is...shit bumps.

smooth jazz is closer to hip-hop than classic jazz is. and yea, peeps rarely use live drums in jazz anymore. drum machines drastically changed music as we once knew it. most music used to be played live back in the days. not anymore.

Did u post that in the wrong thread?
Who suggested anything like that?

^u implied that drummachines can also be used in "classic jazz" :eh:

"Smoke On" with Snoop from The Chronic recording sessions. Soooo smooth.

Huh?
Nic said 'Smooth' Jazz only allows use of Drum Machines. I said I didn't know they exclusively use em in this 'sub genre', and not live drums too.
Didn't even bring Trad Jazz into it.

hard to pick one, but there's some nice selections in the topic

murder was the case remix was a good beat but not his best
i think Still Dre was his most potent beat ever i know it might be cliche but it is what it is .
-
Damn, the remix of "Murder Was The Case" is one of my favorite beats from Dre but there's nothin' "smooth" about it. That's actually one of Dre's darkest beats in my opinion.
