Lookin back to when major releases were droppin off, I'd say '06 is the time there was still a wealth of QUALITY mainstream rap albums droppin. Since then I got more underground shit that anything to be truthful.
To kick it off I gotta say for me, I got love for The Big Bang. Big impact on first bumpin that shit and still knocks today. Personal classic to me. 8)

t.i. - king...king also outsold every album out that year too.
-
Of course you name an Aftermath project ::)
Can't really remember 2006 but my vote would be Game Theory. Looking back it actually wasn't that strong of a year.

Actually I picked up a promo copy of this from a dodgy record shop in London when it was just out...nothin to do with Aftermath whatsoever, just Busta bein fresh as shit at that time. Its an undeniably good album anyway, u don't think?
Not a been a fan of Roots later stuff, but I'll peep this on your say so
-
^ :)
haha, teh day u check out a music-project not related to the DPG/Aftermath/Deaht ROw/NWA-umbrella, will be on the same day you get some pussy

Mood Muzik 2.

The big bang was the big disappointment, but busta's last good album was E.L.E. then he fell off after that album. And I liked busta from the days of L.O.N.S. Only good songs from that album was touch it & you can't hold the torch. I try not 2 remember 2006 cause that was the absolute worst year of my life >:( And also that's when rap & all music 2gether turned to crap rap & crap music. Barely any good stuff out, the good music that I was able 2 find that year was from dubcnn & wcrydaz & most of the music then was better than what was on the radio. There were good albums in that year.
Slim Thug-already platinum chopped & screwed
E-40 my ghetto report card
Dogg Pound-cali iz active
Suga Free-just add water
Tech N9ne-everready
in that order. I did hear a few good songs in king, not in a long time.

My opinion about the best album from that year has changed through time. All three albums I have listened to a lot.
Back then: T.I. - King
Now: Young Jeezy - The Inspiration (TM102)
In between: Rick Ross - Port Of Miami

Good suggestion... but the problem is you just said that 06' was the year hip-hop died, did you not? So what album was more perfect and what project was more complete then...
-Nas- Hip-Hop Is Dead
..that album was a MONSTER and the most timely rap album ever released.

Yeah I like the Clipse and Game albums too. Classics.
But no one else like Rick Ross' Port of Miami? I don't believe it you guys are just ashamed to admit it or something. 8) Sure he has improved a lot lyrically since then but IMO it's still his best album.
-
^Improved? I feel like he's been the same since he hit the scene. To this day I still try to find a song of Ricky's where you can't just change the verses from any other song in his catalogue.
-
Didn't Devin drop Waiting to Exhale in 06? That was prolly my favorite album that I actually purchased that year...def had some classic tracks.
