Title: Muslim Brotherhood Wins Historic Elections In Egypt...
Post by: TraceOneInfinite Flat Earther 96' on June 24, 2012, 09:04:28 PM
Very surprised to see that the Muslim Brotherhood won the elections.  They are actually a very popular Islamic movement throughout the world.   They've been supressed politically for so many years and I admit I totally counted them out and didn't think they'd succeed on a large scale like this.

Well they've succeeded in winning the elections and that's a huge victory in its own right.  Now they have many challenges ahead.  Among them... wrestling control from the military, holding their support now that they are in a position of responsibility and relative power, and building positive relations internationally.

I'm a Libertarian politically so I generally don't support religion in politics.   But it will still be interesting to see what the Muslims brotherhood pulls off in Egypt.

Muslim brotherhood actually plays more of the diplomatic game then say, the Taliban for example.   See your still painting every political Islamic movement with a broad brush.  They are not all the same.

Like let's just take Egypt as an example.  There were actually two opposing Islamic parties who competed in the elections.  The Salafi's and Muslim brotherhood.  The Salafi's are kind of like what you find in Saudi (Saudi scholars are all Salafi, influence the government there) with the Saudi royal family and they way they run their government.

Versus the Muslim brotherhood have actually never had the opportunity to hold power.  But they are more of what you would find in the average American mosque in America.  Many of them, including this president are Western educated, and may even put on a suit and tie and somewhat similar to the Turkish Prime Minister, although he is not a part of the Muslim brotherhood and is actually a cut above them.

Islam and democratic values seem intrinsically at odds with each other. Let's see if they don't completely trample over the peace treaty with Israel.

So far they said they were going to respect all existing treaties.   But yeah.. we will wait and see.  Especially if another escalation and war like the intifada sparks up again in Palestine/Israel, then things could really get interesting, because you will have Palestinians wanting to take refuge from war and escape to Egypt, and you will have Egyptians wanting to cross the border into Palestine to either give aid or defend Palestine... Mubarak kept the border closed.

Religion and democratic values seem intrinsically at odds with each other. I'd never vote for a chistian party either. The relatively liberal society I live in was made possible by reducing the influence of religion.

I heard the MB is just like Al Queda...another Western backed "jihadist" group to twist and fanaticize the muslims to do the dirty work of the Anglo-American elites. ::) If only Mohammad thought more about focusing on intellectual dominance instead of physical...
