Depends what you mean by discovered. In 1979 it was discovered by corporate suits and the song Rapper's Delight by The Sugarhill Gang was recorded and became an international hit.

blowfly rap dirty was the first hip hop record ever in 1965. its from Miami. I mean officialy acclaimed by a lot of people.
