considering that fab 5 Freddy wrote her verse I don't think so somehow.
but that was the first popular song with a rap in it.

Actually, rap was a type of speech used in the black community for many years and it eventually grew in popularity in the 60's. People would use the sayings, "hey I like your rap," or "hey, let's rap." Dylan used it in a song in the 60's, but many in the black communities around the nation used it everyday and they had for many decades prior. In the 70's, after Kool Herc started using record sample loops with turntables, "rappers' would spit their raps in freestyle form. This eventually evolved to the rap we know today.

Sage Francis posted a song from the 1930's on his twitter that had a male and female rapping back and forth...wish i still remembered what the song was

Wouldn't surprise me. Rap as a way of speaking has been around for a long time. I don't think we have any records of the first "rap." Rap in music, it could have been from anywhere that it came to be. Slaves have been recording doing the "dozens" back pre-Civil War, when they battled each other with Yo' Mama jokes and fast talk. So from all of this, you eventually get Hip-Hop in the 70's.

Yeah.. Blondie was a sensation in early hip-hop. Fab 5 Freddy is in the video "Rapture" and Freddie is one of the great pioneers of hip-hop. He was a legendary graffiti artist back in the early days of hip-hop and graph heads used to do a lot of graffiti of Blondie. I saw a cool piece on this on a great documentary called "Style Wars" that I recommend to any serious hip-hop heads like MDogg and Classic Material it's a must see

Basquiat on the 1s and 2s in the video.
I have a painting by him. R.I.P

Moonwalk, maybe. Breakdancing, nope. That's been around forever. Nothing in Hip-Hop is original, it's all from somewhere very old, and breakdancing is very old. Capoeira was started in the 1700's, and it's base was breakdancing.

Hmm whilst i found the song and idea very interesting i posted this somewhat taking the piss but its actually an interesting discussion. Educational.
I knew about Kool herc but not that he was around as early as that.
Yeah i didn't know alot of this stuff. I've heard of that documentary "style wars' its been recommended to me but i havent gotten around to it.
Sounds like i should.

as far as Blondie's song, it was the first time rap was crossed over in a pop song. they were close with Fab 5 Freddie, Basquiat and them.
