Juss finished watching an excellent programme on CBC. It was a documentary on the GulF War and the after effects,
Im sure we all know about the Kurdish and Shiite uprising following the Gulf War? And im sure we all know how Saddam clamped down.
Several things pointed out in this documentary and my comments:
1. Bush Sr called for the uprising
(Bush called for the uprising. Within days the Kurds and Shiites rose up. What did Bush do? Nothing. He didnt send one gun to the Iraqis to liberate themselves.
2. Every pro war goof yaps all day about cease fire violations and how thats legal basis for war. Did yall know that after the GulF War, NOT ONLY did Bush not assist the uprising that HE called for, but he ALLOWED SADDAMS TANKS AND HELICOPTERS TO ENTER NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN IRAQ. THIS IS A VIOLATION OF THE CEASE FIRE, THAT THE AMERICANS ALLOWED.
SO NOW 10 YEARS LATER, THESE VIOLATIONS ARE BASIS FOR WAR?

Yea I read about that this weekend. But I read it a little differently - When the Shiites started to uprise, Bush actually pulled remaining troops OUT of the region practically leaving the Iraqi people to get slaughtered by Saddam's army. The reason being that the US Govt did NOT want a people's majority taking over control of Iraq.
Now, ten/eleven years later, the coalition are expecting the people in Southern Iraq to start to rise up again but what are they doing. NADA. Once bitten, twice shy right. They're not stupid, they're staying in their homes or in some cases actually fighting back against the coalition forces (No those arent Republican Guard dressed up as civilians, thats bullshit).
So next time you hear Bush, Blair, Franks, Rumsfeld, Powell, Rice or any other of the axis of evil talk about liberating Iraqi people, please feel free to shout 'BULLSHIT' at the top of your voice.

And yeah, Bush Sr disgraced himself. However, THAT IS PART OF THE REASON YOU ALL SAY BUSH JR IS GOING IN FOR.
You say he wants to finish the job. Overthrowing Saddam and replacing him with democrats is part of that, surely?

No, Bush is going to war because Sadaam has weapons of mass destuction and they are a threat to our safety.
