Agree that it's messed up that Ren seems to subtly be getting erased from the history books. He's not really part of promotion, either in the marketing or as a character in the film, and now he's not even featured on the soundtrack. :-\ Weird how he's getting the short end of the stick. Wonder if he was uncooperative or something throughout this process.

I'm pissed that I don't see no eazy e 3 or lil eazy or omg or Curtis young....
But when the two main movers in relation to production of the film n soundtrack both left bwa at their height, it doesn't surprise me that they got white boys, snoopsnoop and other ppl I've never heard of....
This is not going to reflect eazys skills as a rapper, businessman or father of gangsta rap, no matter how he's depicted in the movie or reffeted to in songs off the album....
Love theLove artwork, but it would of looked better as a shot from the middle of the city spanning up and out toward the hollywoodesque Compton sign.....

it's pretty much the only thing that'll drop in relation to the movie in terms of music...it says soundtrack on the cover and a song on it is confirmed to be played during the closing credits.

See man, that's what the fuck I was referring to when I posted in the "Dr. Dre "inspired by the film" soundtrack..." thread earlier today, about whether the album was really going to be inspired by time and the music that the movie is based on or if it was just gonna be a cover up for Dre to push his album now that the film has everyone's attention. The track list and features aren't bad at all for a new Dr. Dre album, it's whatever, he can do whatever he wants on his new album but when it's the "inspired by the film" soundtrack and you got Marsha Ambrosius on 4 tracks but no Ren (and I'm sure Yella had no part in any of the production duties either) there's something wrong. Then you got a bunch of people I have never heard of or give a shit about. Kendrick and Eminem, they coo, don't mind them, the most interesting tracks are the one with Cube and the one with Xzibit and Cold187 but that's about all that I can say I'm excited about. Yeah Snoop is there but that don't mean much nowadays, I hope Dogg brought his A game so he'll at least be half-assed dope. Game eats, sleeps, and breathes N.W.A, you know he probably contributed something worth listening to. Not one N.W.A reunion track??? Tha Dogg Pound? they were a big part of the Death Row days...nothing??? For some reason this smells of older music that was to be on Dre's album except for maybe a couple that might have been recorded for the soundtrack like having Cold187 get on with Xzibit; and getting Cold187 on it doesn't give Dre a pass for everything else wrong with the album.
Can't say I'm surprised that it seems like it's gonna be that kind of an album but it's still disappointing. Dre could have put out his album whenever but the Straight Outta Compton soundtrack only has this one shot, right now, that it. It has the potential to be something great while paying homage and capturing that era of music but the opportunity seems like it's being used to push Dre's music :grumpy:.

Agreed.. I'm wondering if Dre is the main producer, if he's mainly co-producing, or just mixing.. and also how much mic time he will have..
It says "Artist: Dr.Dre" (on Itunes) on all of the tracks except track 10 & 11, which is listed as a Jon Connor track and a The Game track..
Does this mean that Dre is the main artist on the other tracks?
The tracklist 2dopeboyz (http://2dopeboyz.com/2015/08/01/compton-a-soundtrack-tracklist/) posted has the intro and the last track listed as "Feat. Dr.Dre", does this mean that these are the only tracks he talks/performs..?

I'm glad Dre is releasing a project, that's good enough for me.
And the line up is actually decent - Snoop, Xzibit, Ice Cube, Kendrick, Em.... Can't wait to hear them on some Dre beats again.
The movie inspired him to make the record and a good excuse to release his final project.
Straight Outta Compton movie, will be filled with classics, the original songs released during that era, that would be the real soundtrack.

Soundtrack looks good Dre is definitely going for a more mature sound, from what I heard it's more soulful with jazz elements, says the director of the movie f Gary gray. Good features and good writers that have been confirmed, cool to see Snoop ok there more than once and Kendrick as well, big hutch cool surprise

Each time Dre drops a "new album" he uses fresh talent the public isn't aware of. No different this time. Think about all the dudes on 2001 that we never heard of. Then boom, 2001 is recognized as one of hip-hop's greatest. Sounds like you're living in 1994 with that Eazy quote.
If you can't evolve with the times this album won't be for you, or any fan stuck in the past. I'm personally looking forward to a new Dr. Dre sound of 2015.

I don't know, I hope so. But on every article I read it says itunes/apple music exclusive so sadly maybe not. He is an employee/stock holder of Apple so it just could be exclusive to Apple.

I had to login in for this topic. It's been a minute. This is some sad shit. I know the soundtrack gone be bangin, but, this record should have atleast included some unreleased Eazy-E verses if new music was going to be used. There is still some unreleased E verses because the DOC has stated that "the best music he ever heard,was the music Dre was doing for Temporary Insanity". Dre was working on E second solo, before the shit hit the fan and he went to Death Row. I'm a big westcoast fan, Chitown has always had a respect for the west and vice versa. Thing is I think Dre has possibly shitted on the west coast once again. When I saw that Eazy son could not get the opp to portray his pops, I figured some fuck shit was going on. Cube put his son on tho? C'mon. Then "Detox wasn't good enough". I smell bullshit. It's been some heavy hittas putting in work on Detox for years. People put they best in them beats. Just Blaze , Battlecat, Hi-Tek, Focus all the way up to Dewaun parker. Them beats on the Doggisode on youtube a few years back was epic. Best beats I heard in a minute. nigga gon say they best wasn't "good enough". Only thing Dre has done right was give K.Dot his shine, and put some focus back on yall westcoast cats for a min. TPAB best album I purchased this year pidd.
Back to the topic tho...he dead ass wrong for this shit, and I'm an outside lookin in, but, I know my westcoast music history...QUIK is COMPTON.

A new Dre album and a soundtrack inspired by and for the Straight Outta Compton movie should be two completely different things. For example, take the movie American Gangster, it take place in the 1970's, they released 2 albums for it on the same day, one was American Gangster: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and the other was Jay-Z's album American Gangster. The soundtrack had new music on it as well as old but the new music fit the setting of the movie like a muthafucka, you can't tell that the new music was made like 40 years after the time period when the movie takes place. Then there was Jay's album which sounded like a new, modern Jay album with references to the movie. Look it up and listen to the music of the actual soundtrack vs. Jay-Z's, completely different but both were about the movie.

This is where I think they dropped the ball with the soundtrack for Straight Outta Compton. They could have put out two separate albums or put it out as a double disc, one disc being the soundtrack with old classics and new songs that capture the time period with maybe a couple new N.W.A tracks and then the other being Dre's new album that could be loosely inspired by the film.

Stuck in the past? Man this movie is set in the past, roughly from 1987 to 1995 based on the info that has been released as to what is covered in the movie; the rise of N.W.A and Ruthless, Ice Cube going solo, the break up of N.W.A, Dr. Dre going solo, the rise of Death Row and the death of Eazy-E and also all the things going on in the streets at that time as well. The thing is, as much as I like Dre, I'm not going into this as a Dre groupie who is getting a chance to finally hear what could have been Detox or just as a fan who has been dying to get some new Dre music. Nah, I'm going into this as a fan of N.W.A, that's what the movie is about, not about what the fuck Dre's been doing for the past 15 years.

No one has heard any of this album but many are passing judgement based on the fact that a 46 yr old Ren isn't on this. If Dre could have made some next level shit with Ren, King T, today's Kurupt, etc, he would have. He had 16 yrs to try. He could, at any time, have thrown everyone from the West on any number of beats he's sitting on and we'd all be very happy. His goal, however, is to give us something we didn't know was possible. In Xzibit's words: "get ready for the reset button to be pushed on all the Wack shit you think is actually good in music right now." If Dre could have produced something that lives up to that hype with only the usual characters, he would have.
I'm giving the benefit of the doubt until I hear it on Friday. He's clearly very proud of the work because he was hyped as fuck yesterday on that show. It was a complete 180 from every time we heard him talk about Detox. In all those instances, you could hear the hesitance, the reluctance, etc. It sounded to me like whatever he's been looking for in with respect to making a cohesive body of work that lives up to his standards, he found.

What he leaked before got mixed reviews from fans and didn't get the buzz we was looking for. This time around the buzz was already there, from the movie and from fans wondering "is there going to be a soundtrack", all Dre had to do was keep it under wraps and not fuck up the hype and anticipation by releasing some bunk shit for fans to pick apart. So I wonder, does Dre really think his old shit was not good enough and that his "new" shit is far superior and on another level, or is it just the right time, the right amount of buzz? We know what he leaked before so I guess next Friday we'll know if it is really that much different or just more of the same.

I think so too and that's also probably why you don't see Lil Eazy in the movie or album, Ren and Yella aren't involved either. This is a Dre and Cube perspective movie, they are the ones who bounced early on, Ren and Yella were there from the beginning to the end, down with Eazy through the whole thing, and Lil Eazy, well that's blood, so you know they all have their own perspective on the situation. It would be nearly impossible to find a balance and finish the project when one half of those involved are on one side and the other half is on the other side. There's always 3 sides to every story, the one side, the other side and then the truth.

Can't say I'm surprised that it seems like it's gonna be that kind of an album but it's still disappointing. Dre could have put out his album whenever but the Straight Outta Compton soundtrack only has this one shot, right now, that it. It has the potential to be something great while paying homage and capturing that era of music but the opportunity seems like it's being used to push Dre's music :grumpy:.
Fuck it, I just hope the movies good, that's all I care about, we still got our classics from back in the day to bump whenever we want. I hope I'm wrong and that the soundtrack is what it is supposed to be and that the movie isn't just being used for it's hype so that Dre could finally put out the music he had no confidence in before. Each time Dre drops a "new album" he uses fresh talent the public isn't aware of. No different this time. Think about all the dudes on 2001 that we never heard of. Then boom, 2001 is recognized as one of hip-hop's greatest. Sounds like you're living in 1994 with that Eazy quote.
If you can't evolve with the times this album won't be for you, or any fan stuck in the past. I'm personally looking forward to a new Dr. Dre sound of 2015.

Never thought that would be possible again, so I'm damn excited to actually hear new material from one of the greatest producers of all time.....
BUT the traclist indeed looks confusing. I mean its called Compton so I expected cats like King T, Mc Eiht, the original members of N.W.A and so on...
Instead we get some R&B singers i never heard of and some whack white wannabe drake/eminem ?
There are a couple tracks that look promising with performers like X, Hutch, Cube, Snoop on 2 tracks (Snoop spittin over dre beats is like a dream come true again) but I have got the feeling tat this "album" shouldve been structured differently..
Still like someone here said back when 2001 dropped the cats on there were mostly unknown and the people didn't know what to expect and then they got a classic, so i'm still open for any surprises. Excited for friday 8)

A new Dre album and a soundtrack inspired by and for the Straight Outta Compton movie should be two completely different things. For example, take the movie American Gangster, it take place in the 1970's, they released 2 albums for it on the same day, one was American Gangster: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and the other was Jay-Z's album American Gangster.
Says who? I personally don't need a 4th or 5th NWA family tree album, or another remastered NWA album, or greatest hits album. There's enough already, and I'm sure if UNIVERSAL studios wanted one they would've gotten one.
Stuck in the past? Man this movie is set in the past, roughly from 1987 to 1995 based on the info that has been released... ... I'm not going into this as a Dre groupie who is getting a chance to finally hear what could have been Detox or just as a fan who has been dying to get some new Dre music. Nah, I'm going into this as a fan of N.W.A, that's what the movie is about, not about what the fuck Dre's been doing for the past 15 years.
Of course its a movie about history.. but you're missing the point. This album is music inspired by the film. I think you'll hear a grown as man reflecting on all the NWA (and more) shit that went down over the past 25 years. If Marsha Ambrosiusz is singing on some deep-level songs, I'm sure the DOC had his reasons. The man is 50 years old, he ain't in his 20s doing the Chronic.
I'll take this any day over some recycled Greatest Hits catalogue. I'm still taking this a Dr. Dre album inspired (and marketed) to coincide with the release of a movie.

The thing is...speaking about Compton...Compton have a lot of talented people .People who should be in this "album".
The discussion is clearly..an album called Compton without Compton most talented artist.
The true shit its,without hater shit..that Dr Dre is super rich..talented..famous..influential artist worldwide.

Believe it or not, an album can include the name of town/city without every artist from said location being on the album. Let artists be artists already. Yes, Compton does have a lot of talented people but this is a Dr. Dre "album", not the official album of the Compton Music Appreciation Society. I'd love to see Quik and Dre work together. They are two of my favorite artists of all-time but I don't get emotional when they decide to not include each other on every project they do.

I'm surprised with all of the complaining about features on this album. On the Chronic, almost every rapper except Lady of Rage and Bushwick Bill was unknown. On 2001, Dre introduced a new group of talented artists. Let's wait to see how it sounds before complaining. Based on Instagram and Twitter, it sounds like Dre gave almost anybody and everybody a chance to make the album. Damn, even Cold187um made the album, and him and Dre went at it pretty serious back in the day. I would rather he put out the best songs, and not a song just because so and so rapped on it. My money is on Dre bringing a dope album.
Also, has anyone heard whether any of EA Ski's tracks made the cut? I know he posts on the forum from time to time, would love to hear his thoughts on the album. 8)

Yea I'm not sure what to think - it's hard to imagine the D.R.E. announcing an album without it being mastered and finalized. Seems a bit too last minute to be doing it right now in this final 5 days between release time. The good DOC would've wanted time to preview and change his shit.... we'll see

More or less... been saying this for years during all that DETOX talk. It's always been Dre's fault for not waving his magic wand and making their favorite rapper relevant again. No matter what the track list was for Dre's album, people would have something negative to say and they haven't even heard a single track. It's some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard. All these other artists can put whoever they want on their records but if Dre put out an album and don't put every artist who ever worked for Death Row or Ruthless on it, it's the end of the fucking world.
Let's be real. Everyone was so fucking worried about him having Lil Wayne and Fergie or Gwen Stefani all over Detox but he put out a record with a pretty thorough West Coast presence and all they want to do is whine about who ISN'T on it. Dre ain't coming with no time machine to magically bring you back to 1992. After this one drops, you'll need a new person to fuel the grumpy middle-aged bastard inside you so you better make that hate last.

I'll echo the sentiments of others and say that for an album called 'Compton' there should have definitely been more features from artists from Compton - all the ones mentioned already; King T, DJ Quik, MC Eiht. And MC Ren should have at least had one feature on this. I can see why he put people like Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem on here, since they are in the mainstream and will grab listeners attention. King Mez and Justus I have to admit I've never heard of. Also interesting that Big Hutch has a feature, and fitting I suppose since he is from the Ruthless Records family.
I really hope that Dre produced the bulk of the tracks on here. He has to realise that when people buy a Dr. Dre album, we want to hear Dr. Dre beats, with Dre and guests rapping over them. We don't want to hear other top-name producers all over the project - save that for other artist's albums. BUT this is Dr. Dre we are talking about here. He knows what he's doing, has a track record for classic rap music, and in that respect I think that this project will at the very least be good. Great to classic status? Let's just wait and see.

It all went very fast, from the time Dr Dre announcing that he could release something. "I'm working on something right now. I don't want to put it out there just yet and say that I'm definitely gonna put it out. But I'm really feeling what I'm working on right now (...) This would be a record that's inspired by the movie." said Dre in March. Even if I don't think I gonna love this final album, good to see Dr Dre want to release something tho and, above all, something new, NOT Detox. So, it's Dre, everyone gonna review his album and of course a lot of people gonna buy Compton. N.W.A Biopic + this Compton album [as a Soundtrack by Dr Dre] in order to retire, definitely ?

I hope the west capitalizes on this opportunity they have here. Compton is front and center on the iTunes home page. Warren G is back with a G-Funk EP. Game is back with Dre in the studio. Kendrick recently dropped a west-sounding album. I'm sure if this momentum continues, Snoop will go back to a western sound. Supposedly Dogg Pound is coming up with their best material in ages.
All in all, it feels as if the spotlight is coming back around to the West, but we don't know how long this window of opportunity will be open. This might be the last time Dre pops it open. Hopefully everybody stays unified and keeps the spotlight where it should be. Regardless, I'm loving this shine the West is getting again. 8)

For one, 50 never really belonged in any Dre record. He's always kept it mostly WEST COAST for the most part. Eminem was a no-brainer because Dre is like his dad and created him but 50 never really belonged in any Dre project. Second, Game stayed loyal to Dre to this day, while 50 was always starting some BS and once even tried to create some drama with Dre and headphones. So 50 got what he deserved as a two-face, hypocrite.

Dr. Dre's newly announced Compton: The Soundtrack is set to release Friday (August 7) exclusively through Apple Music. Right before it drops at midnight, it will be streamed on Apple Music's Beats 1 Radio from 9 p.m. Thursday to midnight EST, according to a tweet from Zane Lowe, who holds a high position at Apple Music.

Which would mean there are three N.W.A members involved with this album then. And obviously, nobody would expect any Yella vocals on this thing, since he doesn't rap.
Now, as for why MC Ren isn't on this thing, can't say. Guess he just didn't fit Dre's vision for this thing. And his complaints a month or two ago may have not made Dre feel so good about him too. As far as I'm concerned Ren, should feel very, very happy that he's even being mentioned on a large scale in 2015. He should take the good publicity from this movie and run with it, maybe try to get a major label deal. Or he can whine and continue to not exist.

Yeah it sounds fresh, I mean it takes some getting used to hearing Snoop like that, but it has its own sound and vibe. It also doesn't sound like any thing on the radio, and listening to snoops dash radio station Cadillac music you can hear and see why snoop went in to that direction all the music he plays is 60's and 70's oldies and 80'sfunk. So when he plays songs off Bush you can barely tell your listening to some thing recorded today.
I don't think he is trying to make hip hop music anymore I think he is trying to find musically some where else to go

Well MC Ren did have that album with EA-Ski, maybe he's hard at work on that. I would rather take advantage of this movie as a group member and capitalize on the hype of this movie and work on my own shit than to stop what I'm doing to contribute to the next man's shit. I respect your opinion. Music is subjective, but We don't live in 1993-1999 anymore. We can't use a timemachine to go to that era. People change. Their voices change. Their mindset changes. Music evolves. In 2025 we will hear people complaining that dre needs to go back to his old flow and less 'bumpy' tracks. You haven't heard the whole product.

Appreciate the deloreon but unfortunately I've run out of gas when I was about to hit 80mph. The only other way to live in 1995 is to befriend Dre and ask him if he'll like to let me help him piece together and curate his scrapped tracks from 1993-1996.

same i'll download the itunes tomorrow and play from front to back. cop the cd when its out in a couple of weeks and be on the lookout for a 24-bit release which will hopefully happen. a digital lossless version should appear before the cd/vinyl drops regardless, AAC isn't so transparent to my ears these days.

I said this a while back, this album is going to be aftermath compilation status and Dre will disown it just like he did his son, I mean the other album. Then when he's about 65 he'll come back with another album and change the game one last time.

I think you're missing the point. Apple Radio isn't FM - quality is good ... but besides that, this is an experience. You get to hear the album in full and right after the good DOC will be dissecting his songs live. That's something you don't wanna miss - that's an experience 15 years in the making.
You'll be able to replay the album a million times in perfect clarity on your own time. GHEA

seems they were working on this for the best part of a year and we know of at least one track brought back from the 'Detox' sessions. way more than long enough. if anything, a long time in production is a bad thing, Quik made classic albums in less than a month. it's good to be focused and capture an energy of a certain period than shit drag on and on with endless tweaks and changes, just shows there was no clear direction in the first place (Detox).

the type of money this album will make is insignificant compared to his latest business ventures, especially if you take into account money sunk into it's (and Detox) development over the years. i don't think money is a factor for Dre any more, he's more than set for life. he could have released several albums by now if that was a way to make money. his legacy is all about the quality of music he puts out, he's said it enough times and that's why we never got 'Detox'.

Well.... Dre managed to do it again!
Very good album, on first listen, only second track I wasn't feeling but I have a feeling it will grow on me.
The album flows well and all the features delivered.
Kendrick is fire as usual, Cube did his thing, Snoop stepped up!
Slim Shady killed his track.
And out of all the new cats, I'm liking Jon Connor most at the moment.
Thank You Dre, my drive to work would be smoother for a couple of months.

i can't help but feel Dre's production touch isn't as hands on as what 'Detox' woulda been. miss some of the melodies, this does sound like it's mainly other dudes beats. like somebody said he's gone for 'hard' beats to get that agressive energy, like an updated NWA thing. i guess it works for that. will need some more digesting and full quality.

A lot of people were crying about who wasn't on the album and all this other stuff, but I hope that it was a pleasant surprise for them.
It was definitely in a different direction than his past work, but I think that is what allowed it to come together the way that it did. The legend of Detox and all of its expectations quickly outgrew any chance that he could have possibly had in delivering something that satisfied everyone.
As previously mentioned, Dre came out re-energized, rejuvenated and confident. He was having fun on the record. I like his classic flow and delivery (from the past) as much as anybody, but it's all good for him to let loose and switch it up. It's good to see Jon Connor get some love. I became a fan of his when I first heard him a couple of years ago. He's going to come hard on whatever track he's on and It's great that he got to showcase himself on this. Game, X, Snoop on One Shot, One Kill, Cube, Kendrick was Kendrick, Premier's collab and so on. They came correct and blessed the Doc with motivated performances.
I know that he said this was his "Grand Finale," but he's still got some music life in him imo. The monkey is off of his back with regards to the public pressure and the feedback has been positive.
Will it have the impact of his previous 2 albums? That remains to be seen, but it's a great overall effort imo. With the state that music is in and has been in, you can't ask for much more than that imo.

Okay, never sound like disses to Drake. After a few listens it just sound like verses.

After the first two songs I was a bit sceptical... but I am halfway through right now and it gets better and better... Loose cannons is the shit! Will have to finish it and listen to it once more to form a final review.
