I can agree with there being only a few real highlights but overall it's just a solid album, when I bump it at the gym I usually let it ride until track 8 and then I start skipping around
I won't rank it amongst the rest of the catalog yet until Disc 2 drops but so far it's right underneath Doctor's Advocate and The Documentary 8)

Locking the other thread, to let this be the official thread, now that most people have/had a chance to hear it.. here's my thoughts (copied from the other thread):
Quick thoughts after first listen:
* The beats are better than expected, but isn't quite up there with OG Documentary.
* Game sounds way hungrier than usual.
* As expected, a lot of filler. Maybe some of it will grow on me though, we'll see.
* How Game gonna have a Dr.Dre/Ice Cube track, and have will.i.am produce it.. disappointing considering the line-up.
* Some dope features, and some redundant ones. No surprise there.
15. The Documentary 2

Contains sample of the recording "Rickard Escapes" as performed by Jerry Goldsmith.
* Now we're talking! Am I wrong for thinking that this track should have replaced Game's track on Compton? Would have loved to hear Dre on this, and Cube or Kendrick.

Game has had more success as a gangster rapper on the West Coast over the last decade plus than anyone else, so people are always gonna be hyped by his stuff, especially when he has big name rappers and producers on his shit. Not that complicated.

I love how Game says yah I got Dre Beats on the Album but never ends up keeping them or releasing them on the album.... The Doc 2 is solid but it's like Dre did not even do one beat... Would have been nice to see Dre have two beats on the album

on the title track you can definitely hear clear Dre elements and that he had a hand in that beat with Primo, probably was cut on the same day as "Animals"

of course it is Jelly Roll ! the one and only Jelly Roll and dope west coast producer (hit or miss, if u ask me) and hook singer in his P-Funk fashion. Both of his features are dope. the li-jon-esque song is angry and the john-legend-ish tune is sweet velvet.

Just picked up a copy at Best Buy for 8.99. Popped the cd into the car & let it bang out loud through the speakers. 1/2 into the album and IT IS FUCKING GOOD!!!! This is the Game i fucks with. Beats & Rhymes are on point. whooh!!!! Possible contender for the album of the year for sure!

After playing this full album 3 times now I must say - this album is a muthafucka! Literally only complaint is the sequencing (well and 2 fillers that kill the flow). Game's albums have always had some awkward sequencing tho especially when it comes to squeezing failed singles into the actual album.
"On Me" is a cool internet leak / mixtape track but not album material and really a horrible way to start this album off.
"Don't Trip" is a major let down when you consider Game, Dre, and Cube on the same track. Dre went hard as fuck and unlike most of "Compton" actually sounds like himself
"L.A." dope fuckin track but why is it at the tail end of the album?! Put this earlier, put it in place of "Don't Trip"

he aint unlisteneable, this Nas this, Jay-z that, listenin to Chronic, Ready To Die, Menace To Society etc references in every song are just wack. Like he learned how to rap by reading The Source everyday lol but dont get it twised whole project is bangin just that little thing aint for me

I'm not a Game fan by any means but he outdid himself on this one. he could have done without the Will.i.am, Snoop & Fergie song though, shit sounds corny as fuck. reminds me of that Horrendous L.A.Love song that Fergie & YG put out some time ago. terrible shit for real.
i have yet to listen to 2.5 but I can't see it being better than 2, I was mildly disappointed by the Quik produced song, not that it was bad, but it wasn't banging like you would expect a Quik / Game collabo to be banging. it didn't make me want to play it again.

I'd be very suspicious if someone favoured this album over 2.5. I've listened to this a few times now, and aside from a few tracks, its quite forgettable to be honest and comes off as more of a compilation with no proper direction than a full-on album. There's a cluster of songs in the middle that I really don't care for which brings the quality of the album down.
The 2.5 album is much more of a faithful sequel to 'The Documentary' both in overall sound and lyrically.

although i havent heard it enough to give a final opinion, doc 2.5 has been somewhat of a letdown to me.....after cats callin it classic and what not, i expected somethin more. still got some knockers on there, but 2 fell in line with what i expected...2.5, not so much. still listenin tho, havent really heard it all the way through.

Good news about the Deluxe Edition. I still have the first disc in steady rotation. This is Game's best effort in years. You can tell they put a lot of time and effort into getting this to sound just right.
