Post by: TidyKris on January 08, 2016, 10:50:12 AM
Who owns Nate Doggs music rights...not really the Deathrow stuff stuff but stuff he did after or that was released after DR

Mainly who owns the rights to "Nobody Does It Better"?

Yeah i tried looking into them but there is no information online about them at all.
Im wondering if the label is now defunct and the copyrights have been passed on

WHATEVER LABEL HE WAS ON AT THE TIME......AND WHATEVER ISN'T ATTACHED TO A LABEL IS EITHER OWNED BY WARREN G OR WHICHEVER ARTIST HE WAS WORKING WITH FOR THAT SPECIFIC SONG. DIDNT HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT HIS FAMILY OWNING ANY OF HIS MUSIC ALA 2PAC & BIGGIE.

It might be worth trying to contact Warren then as the label it was released on is non existant on the internet

well I think Breakaway and Navarre were just distributors, I might be wrong, but if it's the case, he owned his masters of G-Funk Classics Vol.1 & 2. He was schooled by D-Shot on how to launch his record label so I'm pretty sure he advised him to own his masters since it's the smart thing to do, but I'm not sure because there were plenty of re-releases of GFC1&2 under different packaging (ghetto preacher, prodigal son, etc.).

As for his post 2001 music, Elektra must own everything.

A few is basically all of them anyway.  Once you've got the Death Row Records pressing of G-Funk Classics Vol 1 (the only version to get in my opinion), then all you need to complete the collection is The Prodigal Son and then his Music And Me album.
And his self-titled album was never released so you can only find that online.

yeah all in all Nate only released two albums,

to me the three releases worth having are 1) the Death Row pressing of G-Funk Classics Vol.1 2) the double Cd G-Funk Classics Vol.1&2 and Music & Me.

The other releases were sloppy and there were changes in the tracklist. If I'm not mistaken, the solo release of Ghetto Preacher contains Nobody Does It Better instead of Hardest Man in Town as the first track, and on Prodigal Son, Hardest Man in Town is the 12th track instead of Nobody Does it Better, they basically swapped the two songs on the separate releases for reasons unknown.

Yeah ive got Ghetto Preacher and it starts with "Nobody Does It Better" and "Hardest Man In Town" is track 2

I now have Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 on separate discs but they are 2010 repressings, any changes made to those different than the OG pressing?

I've never seen it in stores anyway so I'm not tripping on it not being OG, at least I have a hard copy now  8)
