some very good songs (My Sub IV with the beat switch in the middle of the song, 1999) but overall i'm disappointed in this release. not a bad album but I've been disappointed by most Krit releases since Live From the Underground (my first Krit disappointment). there's always heat but there's always songs that sound forced, all over the place and boring, I like lyrical, soulful & introspective Krit, but sometimes he tries too hard and sometimes he tries to mimic Pimp C's persona (imo) and it doesn't suit him. In my opinion, no album & mixtape released since 2012 match the intensity, cohesiveness and quality of K.R.I.T. wuz here and Return of 4eva which were full of incredible songs.

I always cop Krit's albums when they come out but I think i'll pass on this one.

This year alone, I think I rate the following albums higher than Krit's

Kendrick's album
Yelawolf's album
SZA's album
Mozzy's album
C-Bo's album
Tyler, the Creator's album
Rapsody's album
G-Perico's album

I respect your opinion and your knowledgable posts always, but I must respectfully disagree with all of that lol

only album out of that bunch I could personally compare would be Kendrick's in terms of content and as a whole body of work, musically none of the others are seeing K.R.I.T. on any level in my opinion

Kendrick, Mozzy, Krit are defintiely in my top 5 for the year though  8)

i played it today and it's growing on me, there's a few I would consider for my Best of KRIT Apple music playlist lol, and I think i might cop it because the artwork is dope and the overall quality is good.

Favorite songs :

Subenstein (as said before, love the beat switch in the middle of the song)
1999 (nice G-Funkish song with the Guy interpolation)
Get Up 2 Come Down
Aux Cord
Get Away (vintage KRIT, love it)
Justin Scott
Mixed Messages
Keep the devil Off
The Light
Bury Me in Gold (love the beat)

I'm especially fond of the type of productions like for 1999, Get Away and Bury Me In Gold with the chord progressions, the organs, etc.

In hindsight, I may have been harsh upon first listen lol, that's cause I expect so much from KRIT. Musically it's solid. I still prefer KRIT Wuz Here and Return of 4Eva though but I think it's better than Live from the Underground and Cadillactica.

Well, I felt the same way as Bouli with my first listen, it sounded forced and unnatural on some songs...
And since we're talking about top5/top10 this year I would say this

Kendrick Lamar
Tyler The Creator
Joey Bada$$
Mozzy
Joyner Lucas
DJ Quik & Problem

This album is unbelievably great. I'm blown away by a shred of negativity towards it lol. DAMN was really great for me, this is right there with it. Each disc individually was great.

that's an understatement lol

if Def Jam knew how to market him better when they still had him he would easily be in the same conversations with Kendrick and J. Cole by now, shit to me he's a more complete and better overall artist than both of them

I'm a huge Krit fan but it's not only a question of marketing, it's also a question of musical direction and consistency.

None of his albums come close to a GKMC, a TPAB, or a 2014FHD. Ever since his first Def Jam album (Live from the Underground), his albums have been inconsistent. Also Krit is a poet and a good rapper, but nowhere near as dope as Cole & Kendrick. He's a doper producer for sure (although Cole is a good producer too), but the reason he's not in the same conversation as Cole & Dot is not only marketing (although it plays a factor because you get many overrated artists, with the right marketing push, popping up in these conversations), but the type of artists these kind of conversations feature in the first place. The criteria rarely feature production skills. The major criteria for these kind of questions are : skills, longevity, and classic releases. To me, Krit doesn't have a classic release except Return of 4eva and that was an independent release.

i disagree, i think krit is def up there wit kendrick and better than cole .... his best albums rank up there too. the fact that he produces his own shit is the icing on the cake.

in no order these are my top 3 (I can't rank his new album just yet):

Return Of 4Eva
4Eva & A Day
Cadillactica

I think the main factor why Krit's indie releases are better is because he was unable to clear many samples for his Def Jam releases which is something he has even addressed, similar to how UGK's first 2 albums were good but could have been classic if certain samples were simply usable and the production wasn't stripped down

I like Krit Wuz here and that seems to be favored by many, but I think he's evolved a lot since then with stronger releases... I do agree on Live From The Underground being underrated, initially after the first listen when it dropped I remember desiring more but as time has passed that album did age pretty well
