I'm pretty sure no one on this board has Soundscan  access, so where do you come up with these unofficial numbers?
Please don't say Hitsdailydouble or any other non certified Soundscan charts.

Soundscan is what the entire recording industry (including Death Row) follows. Not these other sales charts, that can't rank or justify where they get their retail numbers from.

even though its not official, they come really close to the soundscan numbers.

Those sales are pathetic. Promotion was good enough, they had adverts in all the major Magazines (Source etc...), they had promotion on Tharow.com. That just tells you that nobody gives a damn about Death row anymore. It's time for some new acts on the West coast to come through, acts that don't live in the past. Doggystyle/Dogghouse, Aftermath even smaller labels like Tray Dee's SPOP. DPG Records release good classic ish, but daz isnt really moving the westcoast.

Dre, Snoop & Daz were the reason Suge was succesful, doesnt this prove it?

Another reason for nobody checking for Death row anymore is because of the lacklustre albums they put out over the last 4 years. Chronic 2K was ok because of the DPG songs but Tha Realest & Top Dogg YGD were just bullshit. Snoop and 2pac left so Death row get themselves 2 copies of them! no that is funny. Too Gangsta 4 Radio was the most pathetic CD in history, again Realest was pathetic and a complete fool with his lyrics and Gangsta image that truely isnt him (Just his 2pac side showing) and ATL sounded played and desperate to get back in the game. DPG 2002 was good but the production was nothing great same with Dead Man Walkin and Until The End Of Time. In other words. Death row has died of a slow death and nothing can bring them back. (Unless Dre or Snoop came back  ;)

Agree with all that. I think Death Row was such an important part of West Coast hip-hop five to ten years ago that we've all been willing to give them too many chances in the past years. Like you say, when they keep on letting you down with wack material time after time, there has to come a point where the fans say "Enough."

^ true would be tight...

i'll look into something.... the problem is that soundscan makes its money by having people subscribe for the information... submitting is free

btw..

"SoundScan is the sales source for the Billboard music charts."

so we *can* use billboard numbers when they publish them
Title: Re:How many units has Dysfunktional Family OST sold?
Post by: Don Seer on May 01, 2003, 02:31:48 AM
ohh ok.. this gets more interesting....

soundscan is owned by VNU Media
billboard is owned by.... VNU Media

to access information before the 'free' weekly billboard chart goes out you have to subscribe to billboard.. teh cheapest option is $155 for 6 months... ouch

the charts out .. funnily dated '3rd may' ... its the 1st.. lol

dysfunktional isnt anywhere to be seen in the top 100

Nah, there was hardly any kind of promotion for this album...the radio didn't play it...none of the music channels (MTV, BET) didn't play their videos...so how the fuck would anybody know bout this album? and soundtracks don't really sell well anyways...
Title: Re:How many units has Dysfunktional Family OST sold?
Post by: Damon X Reppin ATL on May 01, 2003, 03:19:29 AM
Soundscan doesn't work quite like that.

Billboard started the Soundscan system to "accurately" track album sales via the barcode that is on the music units. And you have to register that barcode to Soundscan for a fee.

Also if you subscribe to Billboard like I have, then you only get charted info from all genre's YOU DON"T get access to Soundscan reports. Also Soundscan reports vary in price. If you just want to track your own record in one region is one price, in all regions around the US, it's a bigger price and if you want All access to Soundscan then you are paying SEVERAL thousand dollars per month.

You can't access Soundscan from retail chain stores, that's something that retail chains don't do.
Also Hittman Hits numbers are not close at all, because they don't have access to every retail store (chain and mom and pop) in the country that they can chart sales. Besides, they can't get Soundscan numbers days before SOUNDSCAN gets them, because retailers don't report sales until Tuesday afternoon. So they are NOT CLOSE AT ALL, IF THAT WAS THE CASE, HUNDREDS OF LABELS WOULD CHECK HITS INSTEAD OF PAYING SOUNDSCAN'S STUPID HIGH FEES.

JUST TAKE IT FROM A PERSON WHO HAS HAD SOUNDSCAN INFO AND PAID FOR IT. IT'S NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN GET FROM THE INTERNET.

Actually, I love the row, lol.  I just think this album is dissapointing.

It goes to show, though, also that what label something's on is very important.  Crook is so dope, he oughta be up on 50 cent's level, sales wise, he's fresh like that.  It ain't gonna happen though, because he's on the row.  If he'd bounce to def jam or something, he'd probably be sittin pretty right now.  I'll bet suge gave him a great deal though, he owns his publishing, etc. and he's loyal, so he won't go anywhere.

Now I tried to reach one and teach one, but I'll reach out again. I thought I broke down SOUNDSCAN to the masses of folks who have no idealogoy of it.

Now Seer, you cool folks an all, but let me correct you in what you just posted.  :o

(Label) Tha Row| (Barcode) 63053| (Price) 18.95

No one on here on on Tha Row's forum knows the numbers sold and it really doesn't matter, fans buy records because of artists and talent, not album sales (but if you do...... ::))
The soundtrack didn't sell 63,000 units. Again, 63053 that's the Universal Product Code (Barcode).

Class dismissed............. ;D

Man, I dunno... why even make the album if you're only gonna ship 11,000? I ain't in the music industry, so maybe I don't understand it, but the way I see it, you got a dozen or so artists you gotta pay, a few of them are big names, Jay Z was on the album, right?  Ain't he worth 100,000 a track or so?  The row's probably bringin' home 7 or 8 bucks an album after printing & distribution costs, that's like 80,000 bucks, to pay a dozen artists with, and it's the only thing those guys have been on in 2 years....  How the hell are they all eatin' over there?  Maybe they just consider it promotion for all their upcoming solo albums, I dunno.

The Reason sales are important is becuase it shows peeps intrest in what is being put out.  if your shit is selling it means peeps dont give a fuck about your product.
