Its from those 06/07ish sessions when Dre started to pump fake Detox again by doing interviews in Scratch saying its coming soon and talking about a fourth quarter release and all that. At least the elements with Akon are from that time, highly possible the beat is much older and went through several different stages before it became the beat we here in that clip. The original version or the non Dre related version has been floating around since 2003 in like minute or 2 clips on blend tapes, it was on a lot of those barber shop bootleg mixtapes that were leading up to Akons first album. In 04 it leaked in full and then was being promoted as the first (and subsequently only) single to a KAI album in 05 that never materialized. Heres the full track.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS9_eUHefSM

all I can say is thank god Detox never came out if Akon was heavily involved.

the real question is whether it would have been worse than Compton.

Compton was incredible, up to Dre's gold standard, and an instant classic.  Thought you knew...

nothing wrong with the mixing & mastering on Compton, even has a few good moments musically. but overall it's an overproduced, angry sounding mess. i get what Dre was trying to do it's just not my cup of tea and that's OK.

the Anderson .Paak LPs on the other hand are entertaining 8)

i disagree....i thought it was brilliant. lots of great tracks on there. i understand some people expected somethin totally different, but if you listen with an open ear, it's tremendous.
