well in the past most people always prefered .wma cause you can play it in winamp...

but what do you prefer?

I DEFINATELY prefer .wma .... its much easier to use

agree with this, but i dunno how much room you have to work with to post mp3's on dubcnn....which is why I like RM better cuz if there's a song I like I can convert it to MP3

.Wma - It's the best "wack" format out there.. .Rm is ass

Nothing beats mp3 though, except maybe mp3pro
But you can't put that on sites.. due to size and possible lawsuits for copyright infringement..

wma isnt really crappy...its the format that windows mp automatically rips to...you choose your own bitrate when you rip

rm is bad on the other hand..well i hate realplayer..used to rock it for a while back in the day when it first came out...

..ideallly idd say mp3...not much difference between track ripped to 192kb wma and 192kb mp3...but i prefer mp3'z

Just mek sure (as im sure peoples do) that the track is ripped and encoded properly using something like lame etc

look back on the forum about 3 months or so ago and we gave yall couple programme name that will do it for you...

I've been using it for ripping music off my CD's for the past 5 months, I feel it provides better sound at a higher compression ratio. It's also streamable and all that shizz.

sure its very good..... but the issue isnt quality by any means.. actually thats a bad point.

there are two  main issues for the audio... and one other.. ;)

1) quality... it cant be 'CDQ' all the time unless the permission has been given (e.g. the DJ Jam stuff came direct from his people for us to distribute...) any other stuff shouldnt be posted in full quality really.... legally a low quality clip puts us in a better position than distributing a CDQ copy of a song.

2) the main bad thing against ogg.... accessibility... i believe visitors to the site should be provided with a more widely used format over something "technically better"... if 90% of people windows/mac can play .wma wherea only 40% can play .ra .. then i'd go for .wma... how many people can play ogg?
i'm not even sure if the mac can play .wma..
personally i'd go for low quality mp3s... coz pretty everyone everywhere can play mp3s.

3) size... gotta keep dubcnn's bandwidth down too.. so rud can at least eat.. even if he aint got a roof over his head  ;D

Fair enough, although I don't think windows users will have any trouble playing it as it runs in Winamp. And like I said; higher compression for the same or higher quality (against MP3). But I'll be happy with WMA, Realplayer is ass. :)

sorry for bringin this back but im havin the same poll on wc2k right now  :P

looks like people like wma more than rm but believe it or not, rm is better quality than wma (at the same file size, unless you make the wma better quality then itwill be like 2 mb)

That's the version I have. It still freezes a lot, but wmp doesn't.

Ive been loving Real Audio Since I first got the internet in 99,....When I had my website "Verbal Attack" I posted all the audio in real audio format and people loved it cuz it was CD quality and u can download it way faster than mp3....i think the only reason people hate Real audio is because its not PIRATE FRIENDLY, meaning that it takes longer to convert it to a other format and burn to a CD, but in the time it takes u to do all that, you would have downloaded it as a mp3 anyway...but yea

.ogg is too rare for the masses I think, and a bit too much for audio only. I think it's best used for movies. (You can have (for example) a movie with several different soundtracks and several subtitle options neatly in one file. I'm cool with both wma and rm though. Whatever you decide to use it's aaight to me.

here's my latest take on it.


.rm .. difficult to convert between formats, requries additional software that most people dont like (anymore).

.mp3 .. bad rep for piracy etc, wma aint much diff.. i wanted mp3 i believe.. but that wasnt a choice.

.wma .. something like 97% dubcnn visitors use windows, all windows machines can play .wma out the box. Windows media player is also available for the mac.



anyways.. why we talking about this again... ?

the results as clear cut now as it was back then, the decision has already been made.

WMA because if you download DBPowerAmp you can get the WMA plug in and convert to mp3.  This application uses the LAME encoder and is TOTALLY free.  It also has a plug in for .ra and .ram files too which is sweet.  WMA is easier for everyone to work with.
