Title: How well will Rakim sell?
Post by: _That_Cracka_J on June 26, 2003, 10:54:18 PM
Really, how well do you think this will do?  I don't think it will do as good as everybody thinks....I'm not taking away anything from the album, cause I'm sure it'll be tight, but I'll bet a lotta people don't even know who Rakim is!  Believe it or not, there's a lotta people that don't know Jay Z's/Beyonce's "Me & my girlfriend" is a remake!!!

Well it depends on the promotion, but anything less than platinum will be a huge suprise. All real hip-hop heads should buy this album, and with a catchy single (i.e. 50 Cent's "In Da Club") the teenyboppers will eventually catch on and push it to multi-platinum status. Rakim is not as marketable and charismatic an artist as 50, though, so we'll see.

no more then 1 mill...unless one of his singles gonna feature, dre, em, or 50...

18th Letter went platinum. With Dre backing this album up and the amount of hype surrounding it I am sure Ra will have another platinum plaque on his hands.

True, true... but like you said all i think he needs is a catchy single like In Da Club.. and it could push the album to platinium status.

Anyone who is a fan of hiphop should cop this album. Anyone who claims to be a fan and doesnt should be ashamed..  8)

like u guys im hella anticipating this album, it has the words CLASSIC written all over it BUT like someone mentioned before i hope that rakim doesnt come out with a 50 cent like gangsta album cause that aint rakim

his single should obviously be a radio friendly song, preferably produced by Dre ;D and featuring Em,50 or Dre

However the rest of his album should be some hip hop shit, none of that pop shit >:(

I say he will go platinum no doubt beyond that i dont know

and yes the teeny boppers will be all over this album since they all on Em's and 50's nuts but word will get out that this is a HIP HOP album and the hype will kinda die for them
BUT US REAL FANS KNOW WHATS UP ;D

Platinum is an under-estimation in my opinion. 18th Letter went platinum, and it had a smaller anticipation level than this album does, and it didn't have the backing of Dr. Dre.
This album is going at least 3x platinum, my estimate would be about 4-5 like someone else above said.

you people should quit over-hyping this, talkin that it'll be a classic & all. I hope it sucks just so i can laugh at all of you.

BTW i doubt it will suck & Ra is one of my faves, just pointing out you shouldn't over-hype

I'll call it here:

I think it will sell about as well as Paid Tha Coast 2B Tha Boss.... I'm sure most westcoast heads will feel it because the Dre sound and/or affiliation, but sales wise I believe it will take a handfull of months to touch Plat... But it will put Rakim back in the game and should lead to bigger things... Guest spots, movies, and more music... For those who say that it will do the big 4 or 5 Plat????  I'd be happy for Ra, but to that these days you have to have major radio play and I don't see it...

Naww.. I'm just amused at seeing you try to badmouth just about anything affiliated with Dre.. at any cost.

After a while, you can't do anything but laugh..  :D ;D :D

ME? i don't badmouth everything to do with Dre.... i'ma fan, i just think he's overrated and speak the truth about his biting. i rarely bash eminem, and don't bash 50 anymore since the hype kinda died down. i don't think i've ever mentioned anyone else from aftermath/shady except the Game & Proof, and i am a fan of both

You said that you hoped it will suck.
How can he be among your favorites, and hope his album will suck ?
