Title: The South Is Running Hip Hop This Year...
Post by: SGV on October 02, 2003, 04:51:09 PM
Lil Flip
David Banner
Outkast
Youngbloodz
Lil Jon & Eastside Boyz
Bone Crusher
Bigg Gipp
T.I.
Killer Mike
Baby
Big Tymers
3-6 Mafia
Ludacris
Ying Yang Twinz
JD
Bubba Sparxxx
Feild Mob
Timbaland
Jazze Pha

All have had big hits or been apart of a major radio jam this year. Not to mention, their albums have been some of the best. The South production right now is pretty much second to none. Hate all you want on the South, but right now they're unfuckwitable.

I'd probably say 01 was ran by the East, that was when the whole Jay-Z/Nas thing went on and everyone loved it.

But, this year, not even 50 could top it. He had to jump on the band wagon and sign Juvenile's artist, Young Buck.

Well, I do agree that the South is running hiphop right now, but I dont like a lot of the music they're putting out...

I cant stand Lil Jon and Tha Eastiside Boyz, TI, Lil Flip, Ying Yang Twinz ect......I fucking hate all their songs.  I like Outkast, Goodie and Luda ect tho.

But other than Outkast and Luda, unless Im in the club, Im not listening to anything from the south.

Add North Carolina's Little Brother too.  They received great reviews and accolades from everyone this year.

I'm sure the south is popular on the radio and the music video channels but I don't think the quality is better than the east is putting out.  But then again I don't really feel artists like Lil Jon & Eastside Boyz, Bone Crusher or 3-6 Mafia.

Luda always makes crunk jams, but everyone loves him. I don't know why. Dope artist but he gets a pass all the time. I-20 from DTP is someone to watch for. He's got major skill. Lil Wayne and his Sqad Up clique are still on the rise. Little Brother did get a lot of attention this year. Considering MTV featured them. Cunninlynguist had a dope but very overrated album.

For those who call Crunk music crap, that music isn't for you. If you listen to Hip Hop on your headphones, don't bother listening to Crunk shit.

And, lets see, how horrible lyrically the cats on my list really are.

Lil Flip-Freestyle King, listen to his verse on Luda's album. DAMN!
David Banner-Has a lot to say, but is mainly about production.
Youngbloodz-The new age Outkast.
Lil Jon & Eastside Boyz-Mainly about hooks and production.
Bone Crusher-Not lyrical at all, still better than Snoop.
Bigg Gipp-Rips the mic like no other.
T.I.-The South's version of a Mixtape Rapper, but with more skill.
Killer Mike-Ability to spit some amazing shit. Real freestyler.
Baby-Can't rap, but spits game second only to E-40.
Big Tymers-See Baby.
3-6 Mafia-Lord Infamous is still a lyricist, but the rest aren't. Mainly about Production.
Ying Yang Twinz-Catchy hooks, funny concepts.
JD-Production.
Timbaland-Production.
Jazze Pha-Production.

You got some dope emcees, and at least 6 of the best producers in the game all from the South. The East is NOT touching the South. The West is NOT touching the South.

The East is NOT touching the South. The West is NOT touching the South.

Know why IMO? Self-confidence. The South knows it's got quality and, from what I can gather, everyone supports the next man and expects that support in return. No doubt it's the hottest scene right now.

It's the support mainly. Think about it this way. Someone like Lil Flip sold over a 100,000 albums of his independent record mainly in Texas and Louisana. That's major. No major radio or video play. No Source ads. No XXL ads. None of that. People bought it just to support the South. If the West did that, it'd be major too. The East is mainly just NY, that's where everyone goes to get put on. All the Philly cats, even the Jersey heads, they all need to be in NY to get play, otherwise they wouldn't get any. The South is a market all in its own. People could go platinum down there with no problem.

Lil Flip is simple.. far from a freestyle king, even though he got some funny lines.
T.I. is better than what mixtape rapper ? Red Cafe and Gravy maybe..
That's right, Baby can't spit for shit.. even P.Diddy kicks some game sometimes..

Since when did you start giving Timbaland props..  ???

Simple, yes, but he can spit it dope a lot of times. Plus, not many can freestyle for as long as he can, without repeating and fumbling words. So, kill that noise. T.I. is better than a lot of Mixtape emcees, sorry. Yup Baby can't spit, he never said he was a rapper. He's a Game Spitter, and spits his own game. Diddy spits what's written for him. Diddy still tight though.

I rarely knock Timbo. Only for his weak use of Drum n Bass.

only been in az for a littel over a year....came from tx

the reason you dont here it on the raido is because they mixtapes....mostely freestyles

thier solos dont drop till next month......then the game will be changed

the reason you hearing mike jones is because he and magno dropped first round draft picks a few months ago.....(orginal beats)

and as far as suckafree goes....all they got is flip who is nation wide now and suppoblesy(spell check) he is not even wit suckafree any more......(money issues)
now dont get me wrong flip is tight as hell and when his next album drops it will be fire also(hes got a lot of features wit some major names)......
mike jones and magno tight......mango bout to drop his mix cd soon(the collection plate)

so just cause you live in tx dosent mean you you upto date on these boys x-specialy if you rely on what you here on the raido...........

Post a verse on these 'lyrical' rappers. And the 'this isn't 93' statement, so that gives me the right to say Eminem better then Rakim? because Rakim hasn't put out something worthy since Don't Sweat the Technique, FUK OUTA HERE!. Post a verse on any of these so called freestyles or verses, and people will change their mind.

You can say what you want to say about Ra and Em, I could careless. If Ra is spitting like Snoop is, with all that izzle dizzle wizzle sizzle bizzle jizzle shit, then of course, but he's not, so bad example. Snoop can't be held on a high pedestal forever, just because of Doggystyle. He hasn't spit anything like that for 10 years, so don't even bring it up.

I'll post some dope lyrics from these cats tomorrow.

yeah i give props to the south for running this rap game into the fucking ground. i love their creative marching beats...the way they can turn a nursery rhyme into a club song, and thier hooks are soooooo catchy...i find myself saying "get crunk muthafucker get crunk......get crunk muthafucker get crunk" for 2 minutes straight just like they do.....they are some of the best lyricists around and if this is the future of hip hop....i'm gonna start listening to better pop music like ja rule and 50 cent.

I can only assume that you think samples of Zapp, Parliment, Soul & Classic Rock is much better? I can only assume, but it's a good assumption, that you never venture pass the radio to hear South shit. You're opinion is worthless, if that's the case.

They left out the one they call Lord Infamous
Because the horror he possess, was one of a magnificence
He was set up, then loosed, look for suddenly mortal killing
He was set to lead the world into unholy acts of sin
The architect of hell
And inventor of the six interior decorator
Of chambers of eternal punishment

Supervisor of the torture, Lord, have mercy?
Not me, never

And Screw, I wanna thank you for the help you gave me
We had a relationship like Lil Wayne and Baby
The day you gave me the plack saying Screwed Up Click
The Freestyle King forever is Lit-tle Flip
You let me rip, the mic while you was scratching and mixing
I wasn't trying to run shit I just played my position
We stood in the kitchen smoking, laughing and sipping
Getting high, me and you eating a basket of chicken
Before we shot fool you said Flip come get a ass whipping
I ain't gone lie, Screw could shoot with one hand without missing
I'm on a mission, I'm trying to Screw up the world
Lil' Flip gone hold it down baby that's my word

I ain't gonna fake the funk, the verse by Lord Infamous was good, a little above average, but Flips verse was hot garbage. I aint into one syllable rhyming, if that's ya steez then it's cool. I aint saying no one in the South can kick, but a lot of them spit Cat In The Hat rhymeschemes, and I'm just not into it.

So why give Snoop props? He hardly spits multis. But, you know what? Even the shittiest rappers bust multis. Look at Juelz Santana. I think that's a fucked up way to look at rhyming. Just because it's simple, doesn't mean it's wack. Flip was spitting some deep shit there.

i commend the way you confronted my opinion by giving me two verses to read but still niether of them appealed to me....

the first verse while being the lyrical better of the two, really wasn't anything i could relate to seeing as none of my close friends are demons....and the second one, told a nice little story, but i think i saw those words somewhere......ah yes, it was in a halmark card.........

sorry, i still prefer ras kass, crooked i, jayo felony, WC, DJ Quik and all those others

Two things.

1. You say you can't relate to Infamous, so I guess you relate to Jayo, W.C. & Quik? You're a gangsta? Your friends are? If not, then I guess you don't relate, and you shouldn't like them either.

2. You're calling Lil Flip simple, but last time I checked, Jayo, Dub and Quik rarely use metaphors, wordplay etc. So, what's the difference?

This is all a matter of preference. You don't like South shit, coo, but don't knock it. 99% of the people who doubt the South, only know what's on BET, MTV and the radio.

"I'm Lil Flipper, and I'm a top ten sella/everybody slowin' down cuz my drop benz yella"

There's a multi-syllable rhyme for you.

"We make em sallow the nut/so follow the trucks/Lil Flip and David Banner we got all of the sluts..."

Another.

Hell, you want multi-sylable rhymes from Flip? Listen to "Screwed Up" on the new Luda album.

you're right, i can't relate to jayo felony, WC or dj quik because all they rap about is gangsta shit.....
