Title: USA: The Country without a name...
Post by: Suga Foot on December 20, 2003, 11:39:19 AM: The United States Of America is a description, not a name. It's like calling Canada "The United Provinces of America". Kinda weird that the USA was never actually given a name.

One other thing I noticed. Look at the Washington Family Coat of Arms:

Stars and Stripes! And is that an Eagle on top?

Post by: Trauma-san on December 20, 2003, 09:30:25 PM: Hmmm, I really don't think it's that strange. The land wasn't called "America" by the natives, it was a name given the entire area by settlers. So "America" in a sense is a name given this entire area, and the "United States of America" is a portion of the bigger area named "America".

You wouldn't understand the name unless you have seen the TV show Trailer Park Boys. Season 3, Episode 8 I believe.
